Dr. Giovanni Elia is an exceptional doctor. My mother died from stage III multiple myeloma and was in considerable pain. Dr. Elia visited her every week and helped keep her as comfortable as possible. He was very kind to both of us. She was hospitalized on Thanksgiving Day in 2014, when I was told she had only weeks to live. Dr. Elia came to see her at the hospital on Thanksgiving, mainly to tell me how sorry he was. I will always be grateful. He had no other patients to see there, and my mother did not understand what was happening, but he made a special trip to visit us. Only a truly caring doctor would do that.

I received excellent care and had a successful surgery. I was very pleased with Dr. Garland, who is knowledgeable and professional and took the time to answer all my questions and concerns. Although I was already 30 and women are not usually denied permanent contraception at that age, I was still glad he respected my decision and did not try to talk me out of it. He had to discuss other options, of course, but he treated me like an adult who knew what she wanted rather than a young woman making a hasty decision. It seems unfair that many doctors deny this procedure to women under 30, because women should have full control over their reproductive choices and needs. Discouraging surgery because we may change our minds is biased and undermines our ability to make other choices for ourselves, such as giving birth or having an abortion. I firmly believe all women should have the right to decide for themselves. I knew from a young age that I never wanted children, and women who feel this way are sometimes mistreated or judged by society.
