Overview

Dr. Susan Sarajari joined Dominion Fertility in 2015 after several years of practice in California and Virginia. Northern Virginia Magazine named her a "Top Doctor" for infertility, and the Consumers' Research Council of America named her one of "America's Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists." She was also named "Educator of the Month" at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine Inova campus. In addition to patient care, Dr. Sarajari is an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at VCU's Inova campus and an assistant professor of medical education at the University of Virginia. She speaks German and medical Spanish. She is medical director of Dominion Fertility and sees patients in Arlington and Bethesda.

 

Education and Training

Dr. Susan Sarajari graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor's degree in microbiology. She attended Chicago Medical School, where she received several honors and awards, including a scholarship for academic excellence, and completed both her medical degree and a doctorate in cell biology and anatomy. Dr. Sarajari completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at UCLA, served as chief resident, and received the Resident Achievement Award and Best Resident Teacher Award. She also completed her fellowship at UCLA, conducting research on oocyte cryopreservation. After fellowship, Dr. Sarajari served as an assistant clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology at UCLA and was actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

    I am very glad I went through egg freezing with Dr. Dimattina. From beginning to end, it was an easy and seamless process. My nurse, Robin, was very helpful and supportive. Nurse Jana at the Bethesda office was also wonderful. They answered every question, even the silly ones, and truly made the experience better than advertised. I highly recommend them!

    This facility charges fees without communicating clearly with patients. When problems arise, the service is poor. I am currently a patient here, and I do not believe I will succeed in my journey to motherhood. This is not the place for patients with complications such as endometriosis and uterine fibroids. If you are African American, I strongly advise against using this practice. The facility is nice, but after my experience with Dr. Saranjari, I realized it would be wise to seek fertility care from a more knowledgeable physician and/or a more diverse clinic. Dr. Saranjari read the wrong report twice. After reading my surgical report, Dr. Saranjari told me she could not retrieve any eggs and forgot that my eggs had already been retrieved. Dr. Saranjari canceled my treatment and asked me to call her back, then went on vacation for two weeks. I still have not heard from her, and we are now in the fourth week. I called twice, and she did not return my calls. I do not know what the next step is. Dr. Saranjari became visibly upset when my partner and I declined additional testing for a surrogate because we could not afford and did not want one. I was told that if my body could not carry a pregnancy, she would not allow me to store my embryos there, making me feel as though I had placed the clinic at risk. A physician providing a second opinion told me that, if we later chose a surrogate, the testing could still be performed after my partner and I created embryos. Overall, she does not care about your health. Over the past year, she canceled two ERA cycles and gave no advice about what to do with leftover medication or what your body may experience when hormones are stopped during a cycle. Dr. Saranjari began another ERA cycle without communicating how to address fluid in the uterine cavity. Bills are often incorrect because of this doctor's poor communication. I was never told when my eggs arrived and had to email to ask whether they had arrived. Despite my attempts to understand what was happening, the doctor responsible for creating my embryos was fired or resigned, and communication stopped for several weeks. (Brad) She is the medical director. She seems like a nice person, but the treatment here was not what I expected. My next step is to file a complaint with the clinic and, depending on its response, possibly and unfortunately with the state. I told the facility that I felt unwelcome, and they were very caring and reassuring. I was told they would speak discreetly with the doctor and assured that I would not be forgotten. The support staff here are wonderful. Unfortunately, even after that conversation, the doctor disappeared, and I called on July 26 trying to reach her. I have concluded that what happened to me was medical discrimination, bias, or simple negligence. I do not trust this place.

    DiMattina will ‘show you the baby!’ Two of the DMV area's most respected doctors recommended Dr. DiMattina to me. Words cannot express my gratitude to Dr. D and everyone at Dominion. The process can be overwhelming, but I always felt that Dr. D and his excellent team were fully invested in our outcome. I call the nurses the DFAs (Dominion Fertility Angels) because they are amazing! Even when we faced major challenges, Dr. D had a plan: ‘I don't treat data; I treat patients—let's help you have a baby!’ DiMattina's approach is simple and practical—exactly what we wanted! I hope other aspiring parents read this and take their first step with Dominion. I'm rooting for you!

    I highly recommend Dominion (Pinnacle) Fertility. They were very hands-on, made me feel comfortable throughout the process, and were highly knowledgeable. My PCA Marianna answered my countless questions, and my nurse Jana always reassured me and felt like my biggest cheerleader. Dr. S was very knowledgeable and guided us on a wonderful path to success.     We cannot say enough good things about our experience at Dominion Fertility. Dr. DiMattina had everything we needed in a fertility doctor—he was direct, honest, and always compassionate. We trusted him completely from the start. He never sugarcoated anything, but more importantly, he never gave up on us. We are now about to graduate from the clinic with our little miracle. Our care coordinator Natalie was a true blessing. She stayed with us through every high and low, offering encouragement, support, and guidance at every step. The nurses were equally incredible—especially with my difficult veins! They were patient and kind and always made me feel cared for.     Pay attention to the ratings. We spent more than $60,000 through insurance and out of pocket over two cycles. Not satisfied at all. I am trying to obtain a credit for services I did not receive. Shameful!!!

    We had a great experience working with Dr. DiMattina and his team.     As a former nurse, I believe Dr. DiMattina has the ideal qualities of an excellent fertility specialist. He is direct and candid, does not avoid difficult topics, and never sugarcoats the truth. In a field where patients are already emotionally vulnerable, I trust him completely not to dismiss me or offer false hope. You can feel that he treats your case as personally important. He will do everything possible for the best outcome while keeping you safe. That honesty and determination are exactly what I want in a doctor. His team is outstanding, but nurse Robin deserves special recognition. She is the most responsive healthcare professional I have encountered, which is especially important when managing the anxiety of infertility and preparing for a new IVF cycle. Robin went out of her way to help us understand and prepare the medications needed for the cycle. She was truly our lifeline. Under their care, I conceived naturally twice, both times before a planned cycle began—truly incredible. After the first pregnancy, I transitioned to my regular obstetrician-gynecologist, who I felt was completely irresponsible regarding my infertility history. Unfortunately, I miscarried. At follow-up, Dr. DiMattina made it clear that he would have managed things differently if given the chance. Fast-forward to this year: while preparing for another cycle, I miraculously conceived naturally again. This time, the clinic took over monitoring before I even asked. They were lifesavers—prompt progesterone supplementation, ultrasounds, and Robin's nearly instant replies kept my anxiety from spiraling. After years of being dismissed by other practices, I finally felt valued and protected. If you want a team that treats you as a person, advocates for you, and provides individualized support, this is the clinic to choose.

    Everyone we encountered was exceptionally kind, considerate, and supportive. From the beginning, we felt genuinely cared for and never like “just another patient.” We are especially grateful to our primary nurse, Taylor.     I am a new patient and not yet finished with my procedure, so this is just an overview of the process so far. I really appreciate the prompt responses I’ve received to any questions. I have been able to easily access someone via phone or through the portal. It was also easy to schedule my initial consult. Dr. Sarajari was well prepared for my appointment and answered any questions we may have. She was patient and supportive of our needs. I just had my first appointment in the facility and it was clean and I was seen on time. Both the front staff and nurse practitioner were friendly and met me with smiles. I have been with several different fertility clinics and have high hopes for this one.

Choosing Pinnacle Fertility was the best decision I made. My experience at Shady Grove was completely different; I felt like just another patient. Dr. Shu wasted nearly two years of my time, money, and energy in an exhausting cycle with no results or clear direction. I became deeply discouraged and almost gave up. From the moment I met Dr. DiMatina, I knew things would finally move toward the outcome I had dreamed of. He listened carefully, explained everything patiently, and acted decisively after my blood tests. He truly did everything possible to help me achieve this goal, and he succeeded!     Since transferring from Shady Grove to Pinnacle Fertility Virginia, my experience has been excellent. Dr. DiMattina took time to understand my health goals and spoke honestly about what to expect and how much time, energy, and money to invest. In fertility care, hope and anxiety can be exploited, but I *always* received honest answers. The entire team is outstanding. Mariana is easy to reach, replies the same day, and patiently answers every question. She thoroughly prepared me for my first cycle, including mixing medication, calculating doses, and giving many injections. Her consistent support made the process manageable and predictable. Other staff—from the front desk, follow-up scheduling, retrieval, and billing—were warm, proactive, and committed to making everything smooth, comfortable, and affordable. The portal is easy to use, and texting the medical team makes communication convenient. The 24-hour nurse line was invaluable for urgent late-night questions. There is also two-hour free street parking outside, and I always found a space, which is wonderful for a suburban resident anxious about city parking. I am very glad I chose this clinic and feel reassured starting my next cycle with such a reliable, supportive team.

    I first went to Shady Grove, where I was very disappointed and felt like an insignificant number. Dominion Fertility is the best and most impressive fertility clinic I have visited. Natalie Sofie was very helpful and patiently explained the next steps and my progress. My financial adviser, Mary, helped greatly with payments and options and even found other ways for me to save money. After I "graduated" by hearing the heartbeat, they allowed one final ultrasound when I developed complications, reassuring me that everything was fine. They were very thorough and ensured every step was followed precisely before embryo transfer. Their hard work resulted in a healthy, happy baby boy. I am 52 and had unfavorable eye-related circumstances, yet they helped me fulfill this wish. I highly recommend them. You will not regret choosing them. I wish I could upload a photo—he is adorable!

    Although they claim to “set the standard for fertility care,” that was not my experience. I was previously their patient and recently conceived naturally. I contacted them hoping the team familiar with my history could at least confirm the pregnancy, but they refused to see me because more than a year had passed since my last visit. This was deeply disappointing and, frankly, upsetting. After investing so much time, trust, and money, I was told I was no longer their patient—and therefore no longer worth their time or effort. This experience showed me how easily patients can become numbers or dollar signs. Care and continuity should not disappear because an arbitrary time limit has passed.

    The Bethesda office is undoubtedly the best! My husband and I had tremendous success with the birth of our twins :) Dr. Taylor works at the VA office, but I want to give her great credit for helping us succeed! Holli is also the best. She kept us updated, kept everything on track, and guided us to success through excellent communication! Jana and Guiret were also a pleasure to see in Dr. Sarajari's office. If you need help, run, do not walk, to Dominion Bethesda. They are the best! :)

    Thank you, Dr. D. I had two unsuccessful pregnancy attempts with Shady Grove, but treatment with Dominion Fertility worked well. Dr. D does everything herself, unlike other fertility clinics that delegate to junior doctors and then return with bad news. So thank you 😊🙏 to Dr. D and the doctors and nurses who cared for us.     I had a great experience with Dr. Sarajari at Dominion. I chose their smaller Bethesda office for monitoring. I always saw the same nurse, Janayna, who was lovely, caring, and knew patients by name. I also had a very good experience with my care coordinator, Mariana. She responded quickly, and their text messaging service was excellent. A few times, when I questioned something—such as whether it was truly a timing issue or actually a scheduling issue—or wanted more explanation or justification, she took extra steps to help me get where I needed to be. Leslie in finance was also very helpful. When insurance preauthorization took too long and my retrieval was going to be delayed by a cycle, we found a creative solution that allowed it to proceed.

    Pinnacle Fertility is the gold standard for fertility services in the DMV area. Dr. DiMattina is world-class and tailors plans to individual needs. Jana at the Bethesda office brings a bright, positive atmosphere to otherwise anxious appointments. The Bethesda and Arlington teams work seamlessly and are extremely well managed. I spent more than three years with them and had two successful embryo transfers, and I have only praise for them. I especially love my A-team—Holli, Dr. S, Guriet, and Jana—who were always thorough and made sure I had everything I needed. Honestly, I could not find a better team. IVF can feel lonely, but I can assure you that you will never feel that way with them. They are an outstanding, intelligent, and funny group of women.     My husband and I began our fertility journey at Pinnacle Fertility in Virginia, formerly Dominion Fertility, one year ago, and even “completely seamless” does not adequately describe the experience. From our first consultation with Dr. Dimattina, I knew we had found the right clinic. After consulting several clinics, Pinnacle stood out as the most organized and approachable. We ended the first call feeling reassured rather than overwhelmed—a refreshing contrast to our previous experiences. We chose PGT-M IVF, which takes longer than standard IVF. From the beginning, the team provided an accurate timeline and clear expectations. There were no surprises or confusion; we received sincere guidance at every step. One of the greatest highlights was having Holli as our personal support coordinator. Seriously, Holli deserves all the praise! She was always available to answer my endless questions and gave us tremendous support throughout. Having someone respond promptly and genuinely care made what could have been an extremely difficult journey easy, positive, and even joyful. Every member of the Pinnacle team treated us with kindness, and I mean that sincerely. We began care in January 2025 and have not had a single unpleasant experience. We alternated between the Bethesda and Arlington offices, and the care and thoughtfulness were consistently impressive at both.     A year ago, I began my fertility journey with Dominion Fertility, now Pinnacle Fertility. From the first time I met Dr. Sarajari, I knew I would welcome my little angel, and that is exactly what happened 🩵. Dr. Sarajari was always smiling, calm, and reassuring. She is truly amazing. I also want to thank my scheduling coordinator, Juliette, for always following my progress and patiently answering my countless questions 🤝. Thank you to my financial coordinator, Mary, who is a treasure. She was thorough and patient, explained everything in detail, and helped me fully understand. I greatly appreciate her honesty and transparency. My ultrasound technician, Janayna, was also wonderful. She made me feel safe and comfortable and helped me remain confident and relaxed throughout the process. She truly helped me trust my body again.     I just completed a treatment cycle at Pinnacle Fertility Virginia and felt supported throughout. Dr. DiMattina is highly knowledgeable, and her confident, reassuring manner immediately puts you at ease. My fertility nurse Holli was outstanding—responsive and patient. I had many questions, and she always answered promptly and ensured I understood what was happening and what came next. The monitoring nurses were also wonderful. Every staff member I met was kind, professional, and reassuring, making every visit comfortable.     Yesterday we had an appointment with Dr. Susan, and she seemed good to me and gave us helpful advice. The problem is with the financial counselors and others. They do not understand each individual situation, show no respect, and offer no payment flexibility. I do not mean a discount; they require the full cost and do not allow installments. They also provide no guidance about laboratories.
