Doctor Introduction

Dr. Amaury J. Lloréns-Martínez, United States

Amaury J. Lloréns-Martínez earned his medical degree from Universidad Central del Caribe in 1994. He then trained in obstetrics and gynecology, completing an internship at Caguas Regional Hospital of the University of Puerto Rico and a residency at San Juan Municipal Hospital, graduating in 1999. Dr. Lloréns was the first graduate of that residency program to be accepted into and complete formal postdoctoral fellowship training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. He completed his fellowship at UMDNJ in New Jersey in 2002, then returned to Puerto Rico to join Dr. Pedro Beauchamp's team.

During his research, Dr. Lloréns focused on factors affecting endometrial growth. Normal growth of the endometrium, the lining of the uterus, is essential for implantation. He also studied the effects of exogenous gonadotropins on pregnancy during fertility treatment. This research was presented at the Endocrine Society meetings in 2001 and 2002 and the Society for Gynecologic Investigation meeting in 2002, and was published in the scientific journal Fertility and Sterility in December 2004.

Dr. Lloréns is an associate member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and American Medical Association, and is on the medical staff of Hospital San Pablo and San Juan Health Centre. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is an active candidate for certification in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. He is currently a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at San Juan Municipal Hospital.

Take your hopes somewhere that puts you first, not money. I have never seen so much improvisation and so many process changes just to make you spend money. It is shameful that they play with every woman's greatest wish this way. 🥲🥲💔💔

During our year here, we learned a great deal about what a fertility clinic should not be. A fertility clinic should not be open only four days a week for patients undergoing IVF or IUI (insemination). Because timing is not optional but critical to a successful outcome, as doctors know, a functioning fertility clinic must be open seven days a week. For IUI, insemination must occur on the day of ovulation or immediately afterward. Because the clinic was closed the day after I ovulated, I was forced to undergo insemination two days after ovulation, when the egg was likely no longer viable. During IVF, the most successful clinics in the United States grow blastocysts to day 5 because most fertilized eggs stop developing between days 1 and 5. This clinic wanted to transfer a day-3 morula, which had a 50% to 70% chance of stopping development inside me. They also froze underdeveloped morulas/embryos, which good clinics do not do because they have little chance of developing into a fetus. We spent over $20,000 here on 3 IUIs, 2 IVF cycles, and 2 embryo transfers because we trusted that there would be a good outcome. Unfortunately, we instead learned a great deal about the difference between good and poor clinics. We later tried again in the United States and became pregnant after the first embryo transfer because that clinic ensured that only high-quality day-5 blastocysts were transferred. Before visiting any clinic, go to SART.org and research it. Review its statistics. You can search for any clinic in the United States, including this one, and I would only use a SART-affiliated clinic. Excellent clinics can have live birth rates of 65% or higher. Also, the statistics booklet provided by PRFC is outdated, from around 2014. Review the latest statistics.
