**WARNING** If you want to have a baby, stay as far away from this clinic as possible!

I have been Dr. Alexander's patient for years and had never had a bad experience until now. I needed a medication refill. I called to schedule the first available appointment and was told I would receive an email confirmation, but nothing ever arrived. I left a message for the doctor's clinical team and received no response. I called again two days later and was told the first available appointment was two months away. I know that is not unusual for a specialist, but many doctors will at least refill your medication until your scheduled appointment. I work in medicine. Dr. Alexander's office did not extend that courtesy. Once again, after the second call, I never received an email confirming the June appointment. I should have scheduled sooner, but life happens, and I have been dealing with a lot. Thankfully, I found another provider that same day who could see me this week. Otherwise, I would have had to go without my medication for two months and risk a severe emotional breakdown and other consequences. It appears I must find another provider simply to get my medication and actually schedule an appointment. Update: I just received a message from the medical assistant “following up” on a consultation I never had.

Writing a review for the SCRC team feels like trying to capture the vastness of the universe in a single photograph. Words cannot express our profound gratitude—miracles truly happen at SCRC! From the moment we walked through their doors, we experienced professionalism, attentiveness, and kindness beyond our expectations. At every step, they shared the right information at the right time and guided us through the process with such care that our worries and stress were eased. Their expertise made an otherwise daunting journey remarkably smooth. Thanks to their unwavering support, we now hold a beautiful baby in our arms, a testament to their dedication and skill. We must also express our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Surrey and his team, including VIP nurse Ari and her assistant Tanya. Their incredible dedication and warmth provided support beyond expectations throughout the process and even afterward. Their compassionate care was a beacon during this challenging time. We wholeheartedly recommend this clinic to anyone considering their services. They are not only experts in their field; they are compassionate allies on the path to parenthood. Our heartfelt thanks 🙏

I believe Mark Surrey, SCRC, and ART misrepresented information to me for 5 years and misled me into spending an unreasonable $100,000 without discussing the outcome. Do not waste your time and money at this facility. In my opinion, they profit from women at their most vulnerable. I am happy to share my personal story to help others avoid heartbreak, pain, and financial loss.

It is nearly impossible to obtain your medical records from this place. For weeks, I have been trying to have them sent to me and my new fertility clinic. I have emailed and left several voice messages, but I have been completely ignored.

I chose SCRC because they undeniably have the best laboratory in California, and their embryologists and geneticists are incredible. However, Tracy from the Danzers team, who is also a float nurse, shaped my experience at SCRC—she is truly an angel. I almost left the clinic because of confusion involving my bloodwork and prescription plan, but Tracy turned the experience around and made me feel like a person rather than another number. I am deeply grateful for her support, advice, and genuine care.

Your just a number at this clinic

I am deeply disappointed by my experience at this clinic. After two failed IVF cycles, I encountered many issues that left me frustrated and distressed. First, communication was terrible. No one answered the phone, and I left multiple voicemails over several days before receiving a return call. Most importantly, the billing department is a mess. They are completely disorganized in tracking payments and invoices. Although I paid bills on time, they repeatedly applied payments to the wrong service dates or failed to record them correctly. As a result, I received random invoices for services I believed I had paid for months earlier. I had to waste time resolving discrepancies that should never have existed. It felt as though there was no proper system for managing finances or communicating clearly about billing, adding stress during an already difficult time. If you are considering IVF here, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. The lack of support and disorganization are unacceptable, especially for such a sensitive and expensive process. I expected better care and professionalism.

Heartfelt thanks to SCRC! 💜 We want to express our deepest gratitude to the incredible team at Southern California Reproductive Center (SCRC) for the outstanding care and support provided during the recent embryo transfer for our gestational carrier, LP. From start to finish, the SCRC team provided exceptional service—professional, compassionate, and thorough at every step. Their expertise and dedication made the experience seamless and stress-free, ensuring that both our gestational carrier and intended parents felt supported and at ease throughout the process. Moments like this remind us how important a caring and highly skilled fertility clinic is to a surrogacy journey. Thank you, SCRC, for your commitment to creating miracles and helping families grow. We are so excited about what lies ahead, and none of this would have been possible without you! With gratitude, The Baby Tree Surrogacy Team

I am writing to express my disappointment with this place. If you are planning an egg retrieval, be aware that they will overmedicate you without explanation. They barely explain any of your lab results or why they are giving you medication. I had to pay for unnecessary laboratory tests and appointments. Be aware that their financial process is not transparent, and you will be charged for procedures they claim are 'outside' their package. The coding behind these bills is highly questionable. Last year, I received several bills for different amounts for procedures they claimed I received. It was a nightmare, to say the least. Save yourself the headache and go somewhere that cares about you and can explain things clearly. The incentive for profit seems greater than the concern for people. I went elsewhere for another cycle, and they took the time to explain the process very clearly. Their billing was also transparent. Save yourself the headache.

In March 2025, I was approved here as a surrogate. The intended parents I matched with proved dishonest and manipulative, and the match was canceled after only 3 days. It was a very unfortunate mess, but not my fault. Weeks later, while trying to rematch, I asked Ludi Orozco of SCRC’s third-party team for my medical records. Ludi said I had no right to them because they belonged to SCRC, that my clearance was invalid, and that even if I rematched, the intended parents would have to pay the full amount again. Days later, another SCRC third-party employee, Maria, called privately and offered to rematch me through another clinic for base compensation of $95,000. She said she had sent my records to an agency, HRC, and several other clinics. I was shocked. I told her I wanted to work only with SCRC, and she said she would respond. I later suspected Ludi withheld my records because she and Maria were trying to profit by rematching me elsewhere. My records contained my Social Security number and other private information, and I never authorized Maria or the other organizations to receive them. I then contacted Regina at SCRC, who said I was entitled to my records and had been given false information. She sent them within an hour. The third-party team had withheld them for *3 weeks*. When I raised this with Dr. Danzer, he said he did not want to deal with me because I was no longer a patient, although he had medically cleared me only a month earlier. I reported this as a HIPPA violation and was ignored for a month. I contacted agencies and tried to rematch with SCRC physicians, but the third-party team told *3* agencies they would not work with me. When I called, SCRC denied banning me and said I only needed a match, although they had rejected several potential matches. They referred me to Jonathan Danzer, whom I assume is related to Dr. Danzer. He claimed it was sometimes policy to send records to other clinics, then appeared to lie when questioned. He promised to investigate by Monday but did not respond. He avoided my calls and answered immediately only when I called from another number 2 weeks later. He said I was ‘confused,’ defended the third-party team with several false statements, and eventually said the real reason they would not work with me was a ‘dispute’ between me and that team. These people are supposed to help families have children, but they seem more interested in power games and permitting unethical employee conduct. 66565

I cannot say enough good things about my experience at SCRC. I had 3 egg retrievals and surgery to remove polyps and fibroids, and received excellent care at every step. Dr. Hal Danzer was precise and thorough; I had almost no postoperative pain. Dr. Ron Wahlig handled anesthesia carefully, particularly given my prolonged QT heart condition. I felt safe and well monitored. The nurses were exceptional—gentle, kind, and organized. One nurse placed my IV so easily that I felt no pain. The entire team was thoughtful, attentive, and compassionate. The facility is advanced, beautiful, and calming. It is rare to find a medical team so attentive to comfort and care. I am deeply grateful to everyone at SCRC. They made a potentially difficult process supportive, manageable, and hopeful. My sincere thanks.

I feel very fortunate to have found and chosen SCRC! First, thank you to Dr. Danzer. I expected the director to be serious, but he was very approachable and patient with me despite my many questions. His skill speaks for itself: one cycle produced enough eggs to freeze, I had little discomfort, and I went home with my friend after the procedure. I am also grateful to Esther. Although I studied abroad for years and speak English, medical language was difficult; her interpretation, scheduling, and medication reminders gave me great peace of mind. Since I will be in my thirties by the time I finish my doctorate, freezing eggs early was a gift to myself after passing my doctoral qualification. Thank you again, SCRC!

My wife and I love Dr. Danzer and his clinical team. After years of unsuccessful IVF, we are finally in the second trimester! Appointments were always on time, and we felt cared for. Special thanks to Susanna Bangis, who consistently communicated with us and did her best to meet every need. Thank you, SCRC!

I was Dr. Zhang's patient last year. When she suddenly left, SCRC essentially abandoned me and did not help me transfer to another doctor. After two months and several thousand dollars, they did not care about keeping me as a patient. I had to pay to transfer my records to my new and much better clinic. This clinic truly treats patients terribly. Communication is awful, good luck getting anyone to answer the phone, billing is disorganized, and they show no compassion during the already emotional roller coaster of IVF treatment. For the past 18 months, they have also continued billing me $200 for what they claim were two 20-second conversations simply informing me that my blood test results were available and looked good. A manager called me a year ago and said they would handle it, but I still receive a bill every month. This place is an absolute joke!

Our IVF journey with Dr. Danzer and the entire team at SCRC was nothing short of incredible. From start to finish, they made the entire process seamless and smooth sailing, ensuring that we always felt informed, supported, and at ease. What sets SCRC apart is their holistic, all-in-house approach, which made everything so much more convenient and stress-free. Every visit felt like we were in the best hands – the team was always kind, polite, diligent, efficient, on time and truly a pleasure to be with. I felt comfortable and completely trusted them throughout every step of the journey. Dr. Danzer, Stephanie, and Mae were especially wonderful –uplifting, reassuring, and always there with warmth and encouragement. Their care made such a lasting impact that I knew I would miss them once we graduated to our OBGYN. I genuinely look forward to returning for Baby #2, and I highly recommend SCRC to anyone embarking on their fertility journey. This team is simply the best!

This clinic herds patients through like a farm. Although many fertility treatments are completed promptly, it is virtually impossible to reach the care team. The doctor was nearly out the door before I could ask a single question. Their portal and platform are extremely outdated, with a terrible user experience. Many other clinics in Southern California are not like this. I should have listened to my two other friends, who also had bad experiences here. Ladies, this process is deeply personal and sensitive, so find a care team that truly knows how to treat you with compassion and dignity, not one that sees you only as a source of revenue.

I do not say this lightly: if you value your IVF journey, I absolutely do not recommend them. If you still choose them, follow up at every opportunity and trust your instincts; if something feels wrong, make sure it is corrected promptly. I am willing to communicate with the clinic, but they repeatedly ignore emails and send calls to voicemail. IVF is already an emotional journey, and when things go wrong, SCRC and Dr. Ghadir only make it worse.

My spouse and I sent an urgent complaint regarding a profound and devastating error in the handling of our embryos that has resulted in significant financial and emotional harm to our family. Following our PGS testing cycle, we were explicitly informed by Dr. Shahin Ghadir and his team on or around the week 11/20/2017 that our 7th embryo was discarded due to low quality results. This was NOT TRUE! There simply wasn't any available data. Relying solely and in good faith on this definitive paid for information from our trusted physician and SCRC, we made the agonizing and financially burdensome decision to proceed with a second, complete IVF cycle to create additional embryos. We have recently discovered, through a conversation with a representative of ART November 13, 2025, that a catastrophic error occurred: embryo #7 was never discarded and remained in storage, entirely unbeknown to us. This failure to follow through on the communicated plan, coupled with the complete lack of disclosure, represents a grave breach of your clinic's protocol and our trust. It directly caused us to undertake an unnecessary and exorbitantly expensive medical procedure, with direct costs exceeding ninety thousand dollars ($90,000). We now have no returned emails, calls, or other forms of communication.

Dr. Surrey is wonderful. Words cannot express my gratitude to Dr. Surrey and his entire team. From the first consultation, he made me feel supported, well informed, and genuinely cared for throughout my fertility journey. I froze my eggs at age 32 and traveled alone to Beverly Hills, where the team made me feel welcome and took exceptional care of me. Eight years later, I met my husband, and we created embryos using my frozen eggs. Our twins were born in 2024. They are healthy and beautiful, and we are incredibly happy. What impressed me most was how seamlessly he coordinated satellite monitoring with my team at Olive Fertility in Vancouver, Canada. Because he was so accommodating, I did not need to travel frequently to Beverly Hills, saving me considerable time, energy, and money. Everything was handled professionally and compassionately. Dr. Surrey was more than my doctor—he became a trusted partner in one of the most important chapters of my life. I am sincerely grateful for his expertise, guidance, and care. If you are considering fertility treatment, I wholeheartedly recommend him.

We had an excellent experience with Dr. Alexander and the team. I highly recommend this clinic. Thank you!
    Mar 10, 2026
Carefully verify every test you receive and every bill you pay. Even after calling to settle all charges and thinking everything is resolved, you may continue receiving bills for years. There are so many tests that it is difficult to know exactly how much you have paid. Even when you think everything is finished, the bills keep coming.

I would not advise any person of color to waste time or money at this clinic. I know of two patients, both expectant mothers, who died after egg retrieval, and I also had a terrible experience as a prospective egg donor. Please be very careful, especially if you are a person of color.

It was a pleasure working with the SCRC team and Dr. Alexander, who went above and beyond throughout the process. She is knowledgeable, responsive, and thoughtful. Dr. Alexander patiently answered all my questions, explained every step clearly, and made sure I felt supported throughout. I always felt like more than just a patient. She and the SCRC team greatly improved my care experience; notably, my experience was better than that of friends who received fertility treatment at other clinics. Her team was also outstanding—organized, warm, and efficient—and made treatment as easy as possible for my husband and me. The clinic also has multiple locations, making follow-up visits convenient even if you live far from Beverly Hills. I am very grateful to have a doctor like her and highly recommend her and SCRC to anyone considering fertility treatment.

I cannot say enough good things about SCRC. From the day I entered the clinic until the day I graduated, I felt at home. Dr. Surrey provided exceptional care throughout my IVF treatment. He always explained everything clearly, presented the facts honestly, helped me feel at ease, and made sure I maintained a positive outlook. I never felt that I was simply speaking with a doctor, but with someone who genuinely cared about me. His team was also incredible. I had never experienced such thoughtful care. Laura, Olivia, and Maria—you were my dream team. You always encouraged me, even when I felt discouraged or overwhelmed. Even the laboratory downstairs made every visit pleasant. Blood draws were always easy and enjoyable because everyone was so warm and friendly. We talked and laughed, always finding a lighthearted way to ease the situation, which meant so much to me. I truly wish every clinic offered this kind of experience and care. I will sincerely miss visiting the SCRC office and will always be grateful for the support, kindness, and care they gave me during such an important period of my life.

My husband and I had an incredible experience with Dr. Maxwell and her staff at SCRC Santa Barbara. Dr. Maxwell was attentive, caring, and thoughtful. She always took time to listen to all our questions and concerns and explain everything thoroughly. The nurses and staff promptly answered my questions through the SCRC portal and were very kind at every appointment (and we had many!). Whenever I had a billing question, Pam at the front desk helped contact my insurance company and communicated promptly by email. We felt very well cared for at SCRC and are extremely grateful for our experience during such a vulnerable time in our lives!

We did not have a good experience here. The staff are nice, but it was clear we were not a priority, and their medical records and instructions were disorganized. We drove two hours each way. First, they uploaded another woman's records to my wife's patient portal, and her medical history was very different from ours. We were glad we caught it before receiving a prescription that was completely inappropriate for us. Second, on the day of our first IUI, they asked my wife to return for an ultrasound, which is not normally done that day. When my wife questioned it, the staff member insisted, until my wife pointed out that the name on the monitor was not hers. The woman replied, “Oh, sorry. The front desk usually stops me if I have the wrong person.” Third, we arrived on time for our IUI and I provided my sample, but we waited 1 hour and 15 minutes before being called back. I had to ask whether we would be seen, and only then did the nurse get Dr. Maxwell. Ideally, a sample is inseminated soon after washing and can be held for no more than 90 minutes. My semen sample was collected at 8:30 a.m. (though our records say 8:44), and the doctor did not perform the insemination until 9:51 a.m. She apologized and said she had been doing another procedure. We felt like a major inconvenience. They have not followed up at all since the IUI. I know it is the holiday season, but we felt like just a number. We have WIN fertility benefits through my employer, and it felt like once they got paid, that was all they cared about. We will not return. Again, the nurses, front desk staff, and even Dr. Maxwell were kind, but this was not a good experience. It was our first treatment beyond FemVue/HSG, and it was not a good first attempt.

Do not see a doctor here! SCRC has been the worst organization I have dealt with in a long time. Do yourself a favor and find another doctor so you do not have to deal with SCRC. There have been too many headaches. I deeply regret coming here and wish I could drive more than 200 miles to see another doctor. They entered my husband's email address incorrectly, so he could not access the documents. They entered my date of birth incorrectly, so it is wrong on all my records and lab work. They charged us $230 more than quoted. They charged us again after we had already paid the invoice. There were other problems; these are just a few examples. I honestly feel sorry for the doctors working with this organization because it reflects badly on them. Unfortunately, all fertility doctors in the area are under SCRC. If I could go back, I would choose a doctor outside SCRC, even if it meant driving more than 200 miles every time.
    Sep 11, 2024
The front desk staff are awful and do not handle calls professionally. They have no phone etiquette, and you can clearly hear their attitude. Talking to them is one-sided. You try to explain something, and the person will not listen. They hung up twice, and the third call went to voicemail. How are customers or patients supposed to feel coming there for care when the staff are like this? 🤦🤔🤷
    Jun 23, 2024
Unfortunately, I had to change doctors after changing jobs because my previous doctor was out of network. Dr. Surrey was the third doctor in my fertility journey. My first doctor was wonderful, and my current doctor is wonderful. I can therefore confirm that my SCRC experience is not normal for a fertility clinic. I truly believe Dr. Surrey is unqualified for this field. I should have trusted my instincts at our first meeting instead of wasting a valuable year at SCRC. The initial consultation was terrible. Dr. Surrey spent exactly 10 minutes with me, and it was clear he had never reviewed my previous doctor's records. Things did not improve. He was condescending, dismissive, and cold. When I asked follow-up questions, he did not explain the treatment and spoke to me as though I were stupid. His bedside manner was terrible—the worst experience I have had with any doctor in any specialty. I now drive an extra two hours for care to avoid this office. Some notes about SCRC: When you call, you are automatically routed to a call center that takes messages, and you must wait for a callback, so you can never get a quick answer. The patient coordinator is kind but unreliable and often does not call. They find every way to take your money and charge for every little thing. I was charged fees that neither of my other two clinics ever charged. They tried to add treatments not covered by insurance that were not necessary for a successful cycle. When I asked, Dr. Surrey did not explain in detail what they were for or how they would help; he only said he recommended them. Months later, I received a bill from an out-of-network lab they had never used for my previous lab work. My insurer said they should have known not to use that lab. Because of their carelessness, I was responsible for the entire bill, as if fertility treatment were not already expensive enough. My ultrasounds were performed by a technician who never seemed thorough. I never had an ultrasound performed by a doctor, not even the first one. If you want to see a doctor at every visit, this is not the place. If you have other options, do not choose SCRC. I would never recommend this office. There is a reason the clinic and Dr. Surrey have such low ratings.

We had an excellent experience working with Dr. Maxwell in Santa Barbara. She is highly knowledgeable, calm, and experienced and was extremely helpful throughout the process. I strongly recommend her. I drove more than 90 miles to see her and would choose her again without hesitation. Claudia in the office was also very helpful and responsive. If you want to work with this clinic, I recommend using the portal, as it is easier to get a quick response there than by phone. We also worked with Susanna Bengis, whom I especially want to thank. She coordinates many surrogacy programs, and words cannot express how helpful she was to us. She is an outstanding member of the team, and I will always be grateful to her!

We had a wonderful experience at SCRC and felt highly supported throughout ICSI. Dr. Maxwell went above and beyond to answer our questions; Claudia and Jessica showed exceptional warmth and support during our many blood tests and appointments; Lainey made stressful ultrasounds feel humane and reassuring, which meant so much to me; and Pam was a ray of warmth every time we visited the front desk. Thanks to the SCRC team, we made it through pregnancy and will welcome our daughter next week. The clinic is busy, so we found it helpful to stay actively involved—double-checking medication information, asking questions, and so on—but whenever we contacted them, the team responded promptly and supportively. We sincerely thank SCRC for helping us achieve our dream of having a daughter.

Anyone seeking help from a fertility clinic hopes for compassion, care, and solutions. At SCRC, I did not experience these things and felt like just one of their many patients. I was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve (DOR), so the doctor told me I was not a candidate for IVF. We therefore tried round after round of intrauterine insemination (IUI) and medicated ovulation induction cycles. Apart from one ultrasound performed by the doctor, all ultrasounds were done by technicians. In practice, the doctor only saw patients for consultations, and afterward you had to pay an additional $150-200 to speak with the doctor by Skype or phone. Our final attempt was "mini-stimulation IVF." I completed this cycle out of state, which the doctor had no objection to. I flew there with refrigerated medications, only to discover that half of the syringes they had given me had no needles. I had to pay $400 for express delivery of new syringes to our Airbnb so I could try to complete the cycle after taking a day off. Unsurprisingly, the IVF cycle was unsuccessful, so we decided to end treatment at SCRC. Worse still, billing was a nightmare. They charged me incorrectly for many items, making the entire process even more painful and distressing. I genuinely feel that they might have valued me more if I had been a conventional IVF patient. Nurse Claudia was the one bright spot there; she was warm and kind. We left the clinic and became pregnant one month later without any medical intervention. Apparently, we simply needed to leave this clinic to succeed.

Absolutely terrible. They did not communicate at all or keep us informed about what was happening and what to expect. The medications did not arrive when promised, forcing us to travel a long distance and pay out of pocket. The medical staff were extremely rude. More than once, I arrived on time for an appointment only to be told they had no idea I was supposed to be there. Dr. Surrey gave us his phone number “in case of emergency,” but when my husband texted him to follow up about insurance paperwork, he was told to stop messaging because we were “harassing” him. We ultimately transferred our embryos to another clinic, a decision we are extremely glad we made. Frankly, the disrespect at SCRC was shocking. What was already an emotional experience was made worse by the lack of care. We understand that staff see patients every day, but for clients like us who are spending thousands of dollars, this is deeply significant. It is unfortunate that they did not show the respect it deserved. Our warmest wishes to everyone going through this journey. We know you need the love.

I wish I had never gone to them. Tricare referred me, but they kept charging me and said I was not eligible for coverage. They never said that before, and since Tricare referred me, it should have been covered. $275 for a phone consultation. Absurd.

For 6 years, we thought we could not get pregnant! I am so grateful that my OB referred me to Dr. Ghadir's office. I cannot speak highly enough of the experience or staff. Madi, Aileen, and the ultrasound technicians were all outstanding! You can genuinely tell they care about us and what we are going through. We were guided to this office for a reason, and a few months after coming here, we found out we were pregnant. Fortunately for us, it was a simple fix. But I am 100% certain this would not have happened without SCRC and its staff. Your OB can refer you for a free consultation. If you are having difficulty trying to conceive or have any questions, do not hesitate to schedule an appointment. Thank you, SCRC! We mean it from the bottom of our hearts! The Ricos
