I am a new patient in maternal-fetal medicine and am very impressed! Everyone I encountered was kind and thoughtful. The doctor I saw, whose name I unfortunately cannot remember, and his nurse gave me tremendous comfort on a difficult day. I often find it hard to communicate with doctors, but he explained my condition in a way I could understand. I am so impressed with him!!!

As a patient, I have high expectations for the quality of care I receive. My experience today as a new patient was wonderful. The bedside manner was excellent. Every staff member was compassionate and caring. The facility was beautiful, clean, and new. I felt safe and fully supported.

Great service, but poor parking. The valet attendant was very rude.

The hospital itself is great, and the doctors are wonderful. My biggest complaint is about the people directing parking. My 9-year-old son had a cardiology appointment today. As we tried to park, we were told the lot was full, although we could clearly see several open spaces. Because of this, my husband had to miss our son’s appointment, and we could not afford paid parking. We drove from Atmore to Birmingham for this appointment. We watched them turn us away but let others enter. This needs improvement. If not for this issue, I would have given five stars. I understand parking is limited, but patients should not be turned away when several spaces are open.

My grandson had surgery here with Dr. Woolley. Everyone was very kind and considerate. I accidentally added thickener to his morning milk, which counted as food, so his surgery had to be delayed by at least four hours. My grandson has autism and becomes upset if he cannot have his milk. I was worried he would cry because he could not have it. They were so thoughtful. They put on cartoons and brought him a box of Hot Wheels cars so he would not get bored or keep thinking about his bottle—he especially loves Hot Wheels. He did very well until after the surgery—whew! The doctor was approachable and kind. Everyone was wonderful. Thank you!! Five stars 🌟

Annette in obstetrics is so thoughtful! Healthcare needs more attentive and caring nurses like her!

I had the best nurses. The staff were wonderful too. The visit was absolutely a 10 out of 10! I will always be grateful that my baby boy was born here.

The doctors and nurses are wonderful, but UAB's billing system is terrible. This hospital has an overbilling problem. My baby was born at UAB and may have aspirated meconium, requiring antibiotics and oxygen. UAB billed for the highest level of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) care, but the insurance company said it was unnecessary and denied coverage. UAB says I owe $45,000. UAB billing will not help correct the insurance billing codes, so nothing is covered, and messages sent to the doctors through the portal go unanswered.

Absolutely the worst experience we have ever had. There was no communication between the doctors and nurses. The food was inedible. The staff on duty were extremely rude. They say they make hourly rounds? Not a chance. You are lucky if your medication arrives on time. The billing department is extortionate. Incompetence is everywhere. The surgical team was the only positive. They were wonderful. Unfortunately, once you leave the postoperative area and move upstairs, everything gets worse. If you complain enough, they send the “head nurse” to listen, nod, and tell you she will raise all your complaints at the next meeting. (Ha.) It was terrible. We have now waited more than four hours for them to begin the discharge process. There has been no communication or response; we can only sit in the room and wait.

To say my wife and twin babies were well taken care of here would be the understatement of the year. From induction to discharge all of the doctors and nurses were super kind, helpful, encouraging, and patient with all of our questions. Hopefully the nurses don't mind me shouting them out by name, and I don't remember the doctors names but they were already great!! Michaela, Maggie, Gracie, Jordan, and Kameron in L&D were amazing as well as Sydney, Alexius, Holly, and Amy in the Mother-Baby unit.

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) failed my child. My son developed cerebral palsy/hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), and it was their fault. My labor lasted too long, and the doctor broke my water too early. They told me they did not know why cerebral palsy occurs in babies or how it happens, yet claimed it happened before I went into labor. That is a lie! My baby was moving before I reached the hospital, and I had a fever. They should have acted immediately, but the doctor said nothing when this happened. They completely failed me and my baby. UAB did not provide cooling therapy for my baby. When I asked why, they said it posed a risk. They only provide cooling therapy to certain babies with cerebral palsy. They did not even try to help my baby. I remember the guilt and the expressions on some of the nurses’ and doctors’ faces. UAB should have performed an emergency C-section, but they did not. UAB is responsible for my baby’s HIE/cerebral palsy. The nurses also lied that they had not given my baby medication, and they let my baby go hungry. Never let a woman give birth alone because something like this can happen. They may think you are ignorant and know nothing because you have no family with you.

A knowledgeable, kindhearted team of medical professionals delivered my baby and saved my wife’s life within an hour, and they made it look effortless. These people are incredible, and I cannot praise them enough. I would give them more stars if I could. Nurse Heather and Dr. Gore are a perfect team.

Dangerous and inadequate care! If you care about your pregnancy or baby, avoid this place. I delivered three children here, and every experience was terrible. While not every case is the same, there are enough bad cases that the care becomes dangerous. My family lost a child because of the poor care here. Do not come here!

I delivered my baby here in February 2026. The labor and delivery nurses on the third floor were amazing. When my baby's heart rate dropped, they responded very quickly. My entire delivery took only 20 minutes! Soon after delivery, I was moved to the sixth floor. Some nurses there had poor attitudes. I had two excellent nurses—Nurse Jay and Nurse Lynn. The others were not very friendly, and I even requested a different nurse on my first day on the sixth floor. Overall, my delivery experience was acceptable, and I would choose to deliver here again if I have the opportunity.

    The worst childbirth experience ever...

Very bad experience. If you are serious about your fertility, I do not recommend this place.

Dr. Kolettis treated my husband for issues causing infertility. After three years of trying, including two years before seeing Dr. Kolettis, we now have two happy, healthy, thriving children. He was kind and patient and explained everything.

I wasted two years with this doctor, who did not take my fertility concerns seriously. I later changed urologists, and the problem was resolved quickly. Proceed with caution!

My husband was this doctor’s patient while seeking treatment for azoospermia. The first warning sign came when my husband drove from Huntsville to provide a sample that needed to be frozen for IVF if sperm were found, which was crucial after years of negative semen analyses. The doctor did find sperm but threw away the sample and saved nothing, which was shocking. He offered no help, advice, or testing plan and even refused to prescribe Clomid, which we asked to try and which men can take, because “in his opinion” it would not work, despite there being no downside to trying it. We quickly found another doctor who agreed Clomid could solve our problem and prescribed it. Three months later, we conceived naturally. So yes, Clomid solved our problem. If you have fertility concerns, do yourself a favor and choose another doctor. This doctor’s arrogance cost us far too much time.

I saw this doctor for male fertility concerns. He wasted everyone’s time and left us extremely frustrated without a correct diagnosis. We ultimately consulted another doctor, and the issue was resolved within a few months.
