Dr. Maria Saketos, United States
My interest in biological sciences began in high school and led me to volunteer at a hospital and work in a local physician's office during summer breaks. These experiences inspired me to become a physician. In medical school, I became fascinated by women's endocrine conditions and reproductive health, leading me to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility. I value my role as a physician treating women with these medical concerns because it allows me to help so many women and men build their families.
Most of my patients are trying to become pregnant. I also treat conditions including anovulation, polycystic ovary syndrome, diminished ovarian reserve, premature ovarian insufficiency, blocked fallopian tubes, endometriosis, recurrent miscarriage, and male-factor infertility. As director of third-party reproduction, I treat patients who want to become pregnant through egg donation or surrogacy. I care for and help same-sex couples seeking pregnancy through intrauterine insemination with donor sperm or reciprocal in vitro fertilization (IVF). I also see patients who carry genetic disorders and want preimplantation genetic testing of embryos before conception, patients recently diagnosed with cancer who wish to preserve fertility by freezing eggs or sperm, and women who want to assess and preserve their fertility through elective egg freezing.
NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists is proud to be an open-minded and welcoming practice. My team and I care for patients in a warm, supportive environment and recognize the sensitive, personal nature of our work. Our physicians have expertise in every area of infertility, and our nursing, embryology, and andrology teams are highly skilled. Our reception staff understands the stress patients face, and our financial team works to resolve billing concerns so patients can complete their treatment cycles. We believe in open, honest communication and guide patients through this very difficult time with compassion and understanding. We all work as one team.
I enjoy working with my patients and helping them through their journey to parenthood. I believe in giving every patient the time needed for a detailed evaluation, explaining recommended treatments, and answering all their questions. Every day, I strive to provide the highest quality care. My goal is to treat the whole patient because I believe a healthy mind and body support a healthy pregnancy.
My clinical research focuses on fertility management and treatment outcomes to provide patients with the best care and shortest time to pregnancy. My interest in ovarian reserve testing led to the development of a medication-dosing protocol to optimize response during IVF cycles and help me set realistic expectations for patients. By treating diverse patient populations, I have learned to tailor treatment to optimize success.
I am the medical director of our practice. I am also a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Nassau Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, and the Hellenic Medical Society.
