Dr. Satu Kuokkanen, United States
I pursued medicine because I wanted to make a difference in people's lives. During medical school, I valued building close relationships with patients, diagnosing medical conditions, and providing effective treatment. I also wanted to advance medical knowledge, which led me to earn a PhD in genetics.
I was initially drawn to the scientific aspects of reproductive medicine. I was fascinated by the ability to diagnose genetic disorders and screen embryo chromosomes before pregnancy. Today, I use all available resources and stay current with advances to help patients find a successful path to parenthood. I remain inspired by progress in fertility care and conduct research to better understand the endometrium and implantation process.
I treat patients and couples with infertility, including problems ranging from anovulation and blocked fallopian tubes to unexplained and male-factor infertility. I also specialize in fertility preservation for elective and medical reasons and help members of the LGBTQ+ community build families. In addition, I treat menstrual disorders and endocrine conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome and hypothalamic amenorrhea. I am skilled in all assisted reproductive technology procedures, including intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). I also perform hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery.
When working with patients, I develop treatment plans that respect their ethical, religious, and personal beliefs and lifestyles. I build close relationships with each person and provide compassionate, dedicated care. I consider it a privilege to treat and guide patients through this process.
