We scheduled a consultation with Buffalo IVF for July 28, 2023. On July 12, 2023, we learned that we had conceived naturally. I called to cancel because the appointment was no longer needed. On September 26, 2023, at 14 weeks, the pregnancy was terminated because of chromosomal problems and a complete heart defect. When I called on Thursday, October 12, 2023, to schedule a Buffalo IVF consultation, I was told I had exceeded their cancellation policy and they would not see me. I had canceled once in 2017 and once when I learned I was pregnant with my daughter. Buffalo IVF contacted a friend through social media and suggested that calling on Monday, October 16, 2023, would resolve the issue. I called Monday, but they said they had spoken with the doctor and stood by the decision not to see me. Knowing that we had just endured the worst period of our lives, I was shocked by their treatment. Given their specialty, you would expect greater sensitivity and empathy. I do not understand why I was treated like someone who simply failed to appear or canceled without reason, or what they expected me to do—attend an infertility appointment while pregnant? Their cancellation policy must be revised because it is heartless and cruel.

We had a wonderful experience working with Dr. Griffin! He performed my diagnostic testing and uterine surgery. At every step, he was kind, gentle, and professional. He made me feel calm and understood. The rest of the Buffalo Infertility team was also caring and helpful.

I did not even make it to the scheduled appointment. I am now in my forties and simply wanted to evaluate my fertility. I am going through a divorce but remain insured through my husband and may stay on his plan for some time. Buffalo IVF refused to see me and said I needed proof of divorce. I also asked what would happen if he knew I wanted to become pregnant and we wanted to choose a “donor.” The staff said I could not select my own sperm donor and had to use one of theirs. That is absolutely crazy to me. Honestly, I am not even upset that the appointment was canceled. This place is a joke!

Negative attitude from the doctor toward the nurse. No success—a waste of time, money, and emotion. CNY is better!

I was very frustrated by how my first appointment was handled. I did not know documents had to be sent before the appointment; that was my misunderstanding, and I accept responsibility. I thought I should bring them to the first visit. I mailed them immediately and explained that they had been sent and were on the way, but because they did not arrive in time, the office simply canceled the appointment. The person on the phone was unkind about it. My aunt, a nurse for more than 20 years who knows this doctor well, recommended the doctor. I am disappointed by how they work with patients. I may reschedule, but this process could have been handled better.

Dr. Bartels has been incredible at every step, despite several setbacks. She was thorough enough to order additional testing after I told her about painful, long periods and discovered fibroids and endometriosis that I did not even know I had! Without her thoroughness and recommendation for more testing, I would never have known there were any issues. She was extremely calm and reassuring and took all the time she could to answer every question. I trusted her completely with my surgery, and I am so glad I did because she did an amazing job. She even called my wife as soon as it was over to explain exactly what they removed and the next steps. She is the first doctor ever to take my painful periods seriously, and I am so grateful. I can now move forward with my fertility journey knowing that every issue that might have stood in the way has been addressed. Thank you so much, Dr. Bartels ❤️

After 18 months of effort, our progress was disrupted by Michael Sullivan. During a heartbreaking call, he was the physician on duty handling my wife's severe reaction to a medication prescribed by Buffalo IVF. He repeatedly called her “dear” and told her to “calm down.” Throughout the call, he dismissed our concerns as though she were simply hysterical, then hung up and left my wife in tears. Rather than taking responsibility or offering support, Sullivan left us with the impression that he considered my wife unfit for motherhood by requiring a psychiatrist's approval for routine testing. He turned our fertility choices into medical bureaucracy that pushed us between other providers, effectively abandoning us. We initially considered continuing with other Buffalo IVF providers because the rest of the staff seemed competent and compassionate, and we asked not to work with him again. On reflection, however, it is deeply troubling that a women's health clinic would tolerate such sexist behavior from an employee, much less its owner. Reproductive care requires empathy, respect, and professionalism. Unfortunately, our experience at Buffalo IVF was the opposite. We strongly recommend seeking care from providers who respect patient dignity. Do not waste your time here.

After ten years of trying to conceive, we finally came to Buffalo IVF. The staff were wonderful, and Dr. Griffin was exceptional! After discovering I had endometriosis, he performed surgery, and about a year and a half later we finally welcomed our precious baby! If you are trying to conceive, I definitely recommend them!

There were many problems with the failed IVF treatment at this clinic. One was ovarian hyperstimulation caused by the medication they used. I later consulted two other clinics, and both said they had never used that medication for this reason… Two years later, I went to another clinic and had a very successful IVF cycle. They transferred three embryos, and my daughter was born this year.
