Doctor Introduction

Dr. Jennifer Dundee, United States

I specialize in endocrine disorders that affect reproduction, infertility, fertility preservation, premature ovarian insufficiency (the loss of normal function in the ovaries of women younger than 40), primary amenorrhea (the failure of menses to occur before 16), as well as pediatric and adolescent gynecology.

My research interests include diminished ovarian reserve, a condition in which the ovary loses its normal reproductive potential and can lead to infertility, as well as enhancing the response to ovarian stimulation for treatment of infertility.

I knew at age 20 I wanted to dedicate my life to treating infertility after working on my undergraduate honors thesis in the IVF research lab at Stanford, then as an embryologist for three years and completing a master's degree in Clinical Embryology and Assisted Reproduction. I realized that I needed to be involved more directly in clinical care and that my laboratory background would give me greater perspective as a clinician.

I take pride in ensuring my patients are thoroughly educated about their diagnoses, how medications work and what options they have so they can make truly well-informed decisions. I believe in practicing evidence-based medicine by tailoring patient care to each individual.

Until recently, my experience at UVM’s reproductive clinic was good. Last year, I disclosed that work might require relocation. They said this would not be a problem and that I could call to coordinate embryo transfer when ready. Now, after ignored portal messages, I was told to transfer care to where I work and UVM would ship my embryos after I found another clinic. This feels unfair because my insurance, ID, husband, and primary residence remain in Vermont. After I pushed, they scheduled an appointment without explaining its purpose. Although they knew I worked out of state, they offered “virtual” or “in-person.” I chose virtual, then learned I had to be physically in Vermont. Why spend $309 on airfare, travel with an 18-month-old, and miss work just to sit at a computer? For that cost and sacrifice, I would want an actual in-person visit. As a healthcare worker, it is discouraging to see productivity and billing seemingly prioritized over care. It feels as if I was dismissed as a burden because embryo transfer may not be a high-priced procedure. This is devastating when trying to start a family. I expected compassion, clarity, and support, but the first step toward transfer was needlessly difficult. With my husband living in Vermont while I work elsewhere to support us, this felt heartless and transactional. I am deeply disappointed with UVM and hope it considers how its policies and communication affect patients already facing profoundly personal challenges.

Dr. Dundee has quite literally changed my life! She removed an almost 7 pound fibroid that was causing discomfort, infertility, and was making me look 25+ weeks pregnant. I have been on a 50 pound weight loss journey over the past couple of years, so not being able to wear certain clothes due to the fibroid was crushing. I can now happily wear a bikini! My incision is so low you'd never know I had it. I'm almost 2 weeks post op and feeling amazing! THANK YOU!!!
