Dr. Sameh Toma, United States
Dr. Sameh Toma has more than 30 years of experience as a fertility physician in the Raleigh area, specializing in in vitro fertilization and tubal ligation reversal surgery. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He then graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and completed his residency there. During residency, he researched and published articles on infertility, endometriosis, and fetal health. His most important training came from the late Dr. Luther Talbert, director of the reproductive endocrinology fellowship at UNC Chapel Hill. Dr. Talbert was well known throughout North Carolina because he trained most obstetrician-gynecologists during his time at UNC. In the early 1990s, Dr. Toma, Dr. Gerald Mulvaney, and Dr. Talbert left UNC Chapel Hill to establish the North Carolina Center for Reproductive Medicine. Together, they created a successful fertility clinic serving North Carolina and neighboring states. For 12 years, Dr. Toma worked with Dr. Talbert to treat hundreds of infertility patients. According to Dr. Talbert, this close training prepared Dr. Toma to succeed him as medical director of the North Carolina Center for Reproductive Medicine.
Tubal Reversal Surgery Specialty
Dr. Toma also specializes in tubal reversal surgery. Tubal anastomosis is a surgical procedure that can restore the function of fallopian tubes blocked by a previous sterilization procedure. Dr. Toma uses specialized microsurgical techniques to view and reconnect the narrow sections of the fallopian tubes under a microscope. Choosing a provider for tubal reversal surgery is critical because the decision can shape a family's future. Patients seeking an experienced microsurgeon online should evaluate credibility, years of training, years in practice, and success rates. These criteria reflect a provider's commitment to excellence. Dr. Toma has successfully performed tubal reversal surgery for 20 years and has refined the technique.
Innovation and Research
Dr. Toma has also applied his engineering and medical expertise to develop color ultrasound. He designed NCCRM's advanced laboratory, which resembles a clean microelectronics room and provides a highly clean-air environment for embryology. This is a major reason the facility reports high pregnancy success rates. Dr. Toma serves on several expert panels for pharmaceutical companies that produce fertility medications. He has also collaborated with these companies on research projects focused on predicting the most viable embryos through culture-medium testing and on egg freezing, a newer development in reproductive medicine. Dr. Toma is also president of Rex Surgery Center of Cary, an outpatient surgery center affiliated with Rex Hospital.
