Shvetha Zarek, MD
Hi Friends! I am Dr. Z and the Founder of Arbor Fertility. A second generation doctor and proud daughter of immigrants, my life’s mission is to support folks in becoming parents and provide them with the best possible fertility experience.
I am a proud Hoya, receiving a Bachelor of Science from Georgetown University with Honors in Biochemistry and the Department of Chemistry Award in Scholastic Distinction. Through the support of the Dr. J.W. and M.U. Lawson Memorial Scholarship, I attended the University of Virginia School of Medicine. In residency, I served as the Administrative Chief Resident and co-Chair of the Medical Education Committee at George Washington University and then trained across the river at the National Institutes of Health for fellowship in REI where I was lucky to work with renowned and brilliant mentors in REI and epidemiology who supported my thesis work in studying the value of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) in predicting fecundability.
For over 15 years, particularly in the Midwest, I have supported patients with their fertility journeys. I was saddened that no matter how hard our team worked to soothe the physical and psychological ache of infertility, there was one especially painful thorn that I could not remove: the extraordinary cost of fertility treatment.
I am a double board certified Reproductive Endocrinologist with an interest in IUI, IVF, ovulation induction techniques, PCOS, male factor infertility, and third party reproduction. Arbor Fertility welcomes individuals of all backgrounds.
Before starting Arbor Fertility, I was the Director of IVF and an Assistant Professor in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Missouri. I am super grateful to be recognized by my incredibly talented colleagues as a St. Louis Magazine Top Doctor, Best in Missouri Life Magazine Top Doctor, and a Castle Connolly Top Doctor. What brings me so much joy is to serve on the Board of Directors, former President and Speaker for Girls in the Know of St. Louis, a local empowerment and education non-profit for pre-teen girls.
While all the leadership positions, publications and awards are awesome, the best gift of all is the incredible teamwork that goes into helping our beloved patients become doting parents and to witness all their doubts and struggles melt away when they meet their little one.

Dr. Zarek and her team are amazing! They made us feel welcome and comfortable. This was my second time seeing Dr. Zarek. Under her care, I had a successful IUI in 2018 and welcomed a baby girl in 2019. So when we decided to try again, I searched online to find where she was practicing because I knew she was the person I wanted for this new journey.
While trying to find Dr. Zarek again, I consulted another doctor who made me feel hopeless and said IUI was very unlikely to work for me. Fortunately, I found Dr. Zarek soon afterward. She was transparent about the process but also very encouraging.
Bottom line: I tried once, and now I am pregnant with my second child! Dr. Zarek and her team are rock stars! I recommend that anyone beginning a fertility journey for any reason do it with Dr. Zarek. She cares about you and genuinely wants to support your fertility efforts, and her team is first-rate!

From help with insurance to the IVF process itself, Dr. Zarek and the Arbor Fertility staff were very supportive. They answered my questions and addressed my concerns from start to finish. Marnee, Amanda, and Dr. Zarek were all wonderful. I recommend Arbor to anyone considering IVF for the first time or looking for a more caring and compassionate clinic.

Dr. Zarek cares about her patients as people. She truly wants to see them succeed and be happy, and she will not stop until she has tried everything she can. She is empathetic, caring, and kind, and she remembers who you are. She never forgets specific details mentioned in conversation. Even though we are no longer receiving care at her clinic, she still checked in on us.
Dr. Zarek is an amazing physician. She was attentive when we first met over Zoom and quickly began building a relationship with us. At our first visit, she was kind and presented all our options. She truly took the time to speak with us and address every concern and question. We never felt rushed during a visit.
Before and during my first retrieval, my anxiety was at an all-time high. She was patient with me and changed the staff that morning after I had an unpleasant experience with one team member. She made sure I was comfortable throughout the process and followed up after the procedure. My anxiety was lower during the second retrieval, but she still checked on me before and after the procedure. She was there as I fell asleep and when I woke up, making sure I was okay. My anxiety was significantly lower during the third retrieval, but her care did not change. She checked on me and made sure I was okay at every step. My anxiety during the fourth retrieval was almost as severe as during the first. Before the retrieval, I needed to have a serious conversation with her about another situation, and she was receptive and nonjudgmental. I was still very anxious, and she stayed with me. She was beside me when I fell asleep and again when I woke up. During every retrieval, she explained the process in detail so I understood what was happening. She checked on me later that day and again the next morning.
During the transfers, she explained the entire process and gave us all the information about what to expect. When the first and second transfers failed, she showed empathy and was considerate of our feelings. She always communicated information politely and gently. She explained the next steps and never left us guessing. I cannot imagine a better doctor.
Throughout our efforts to conceive, Dr. Zarek never stopped helping us. She was willing to discuss different options and perform any testing that might help. She always explained the purpose and results. From beginning to end, she continued brainstorming and researching new ways to help us.
Marnee is an excellent partner to Dr. Zarek. They communicate very well with each other and with patients. They showed understanding and compassion for our situation and everything that was happening. When I experienced bleeding during the first few weeks of pregnancy, they changed their schedules that same day to fit me in and check that everything was okay. She explained everything that was happening and any other symptoms I might experience. During retrievals and transfers, she was just as caring and understanding as Dr. Zarek.

We love Dr. Zarek and the entire Arbor Fertility team! Infertility is honestly one of the worst and heaviest experiences a person can go through. Yet everyone kept things light during appointments and helped me briefly forget how difficult the situation was, which I appreciated. At the same time, it was clear they were as invested as we were in both the wins and losses. Here, you are more than a number or a patient.
Our infertility journey certainly had ups and downs: unsuccessful cycles, IVF during the pandemic, and a fresh transfer in 2021 that brought us our first little miracle, with 8 embryos frozen! Our second attempt has not been without challenges and has not succeeded yet, but we have always trusted Dr. Zarek's judgment and recommendations for next steps. I also appreciate her attention to the mental and emotional aspects. She always checked on me after a negative result, and after our recent loss she was very supportive and attentive to my mental health.

Thanks to Dr. Zarek and Arbor Fertility, we are pregnant today. The clinic and Dr. Zarek are kind and professional. Dr. Zarek is honest and willing to help. She is easy to reach when we need an appointment. The clinic runs well, and we never encountered any problems. We completed 3 medicated cycles and 2 IUI cycles. Arbor's treatment costs are very clear and reasonable.

I have known Dr. Zarek for ten years, both as a fertility specialist and a good friend. The extra care she gives every patient is exceptional. Dr. Zarek and her team, along with the women at Acts of Kindness, are the finest, kindest, and most compassionate people I have met. My journey has been wonderful because of them. Anyone fortunate enough to meet them is truly blessed. They have supported me day and night since February, and I will be there next month. My entire journey is thanks to Dr. Zarek, Acts of Kindness, and Jayme Bass. Without them, I would not have the opportunity to try to build a family. I am from Tennessee and would travel anywhere in the United States a thousand times if necessary to remain their patient. They are unmatched and simply the best.

Dr. Zarek and the entire Arbor team are amazing! Infertility is physically and emotionally difficult, and they made the process easier. From our first appointment, it was obvious that Dr. Zarek would help us in any way needed. She checked in and communicated throughout. I highly recommend Arbor Fertility! My third IUI resulted in twins. I was the kind of patient who often panicked and asked many questions, and the nurses and staff were always kind and patient with every concern. I knew I was in good hands, and they truly made me feel like one of their own!

I highly recommend Dr. Zarek and her team! She is the only doctor who took the time to determine why I was not becoming pregnant and adjust my treatment accordingly. She is extremely attentive and thoughtful. We were very fortunate to find her. I graduated, and it is a little sad because she became an important part of our lives and journey. 10 out of 10!
I also want to recognize Kindbody! They were wonderful to work with as well!

This is not an ordinary review. Keep reading, because by the end you may realize this should be your clinic too.
After years of heartbreak—failed IUIs, miscarriages, and endless appointments—we fell into quiet despair. IVF became the obvious next step. We immersed ourselves in research, evaluating fertility clinics across the south-central region: Dallas, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Nashville, Shreveport, Little Rock, and Memphis. We created a spreadsheet comparing transparency, success rates, insurance coverage, and support for long-distance patients. We narrowed it to three. The choices seemed acceptable, but honestly, most clinics felt like a gamble, with mixed reviews, average impressions, and nothing that inspired hope.
One evening, on a whim, we expanded the search slightly. What about St. Louis?
That was when we found Arbor Fertility and Dr. Zarek.
At first, it seemed too good to be true. The website was not flashy marketing; it was a masterclass in honesty. Prices were transparent, expectations were clear and realistic, and procedures and success rates were explained plainly. We cautiously submitted a consultation request. We had been disappointed before. “If it seems too good to be true,” we thought, “it probably is.”
We were wrong.
Within days, we had a remote video call with Dr. Zarek herself. From the first consultation, we knew this was different. This was not a doctor merely reviewing a chart, a rushed video call, or someone checking a box. It felt like sitting with a friend who happened to be one of the world's most compassionate and knowledgeable fertility doctors.
She asked exactly the right questions. She listened carefully, explained thoroughly, and genuinely cared about us. We gained more from one call than from years of failed treatment. When we ended the call, we had a plan—and, for the first time in a long time, hope.
Then, 17 days later, something incredible happened, just as Dr. Zarek said had happened for some previous patients.
We conceived naturally.
After everything, after years of heartbreak, it happened following just one consultation.
But we had been here before: pregnant, yes, but never beyond 6 weeks. Still, we contacted Dr. Zarek—not as paying patients or as part of an IVF plan, but as two cautiously optimistic people telling our new fertility doctor that we were pregnant.
She did not hesitate.
She did not request payment.
She did not disappear because we had not “officially” started IVF.
Instead, Dr. Zarek responded in every way you hope a doctor would. She studied our history, reviewed laboratory results, records, and miscarriage patterns, and designed a precise, evidence-based medication plan to help sustain the pregnancy. She arranged testing and reassured us. She showed a level of care and humanity that I thought was nearly unimaginable in modern medicine.
The truth is that Dr. Zarek is different.
She is the kind of doctor people deserve to hear about.
She does not treat you like a number.
She guided us with compassion, not a contract.
We came to Arbor Fertility for IVF but found something rarer: a doctor genuinely focused on us—not money or metrics, but her mission.

Whenever my husband and I visited Arbor, Dr. Zarek was welcoming, caring, and thorough in explaining our fertility treatment. Our first visit included a lot of information and felt somewhat overwhelming, but Dr. Zarek stayed in touch by phone or text, answered our follow-up questions, and eased our anxiety. She gave realistic information while helping us feel confident about treatment. Her knowledge was clear at every visit. We were honored to have Dr. Zarek perform our ovarian PRP treatment. We traveled from Chicago three times, and every visit was pleasant. The Arbor Fertility team is very kind and attentive. They allow your spouse/partner to accompany you while you prepare for the procedure, which helps reduce anxiety afterward. Prices are reasonable and help ease the cost of IVF. The clinic itself is modern and clean. I highly recommend it to everyone. Finally, they even recommend places to visit after the procedure... something everyone undergoing IVF appreciates 😂

The clinical care here is first-rate. Dr. Zarek and her nurses are wonderful. I would have liked to continue care here, but the clinic's billing practices and billing team made that impossible.
If you have federal employee Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance (BCBS) and pursue intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF), you will be charged additional fees. Beyond your coinsurance, IUI costs an additional $471 and IVF an additional $3,500. Any hysteroscopy also incurs a separate anesthesia fee because anesthesia is outsourced.
I had countless disputes with billing because they repeatedly overcharged or attempted to overcharge me for visits. For someone already going through infertility, it was honestly exhausting.

I will keep this as brief as possible and omit some details. I am completing medical screening to become a surrogate and hired an agency to coordinate everything. Arbor Fertility said they had completed all necessary testing, which had to occur during a specific part of my menstrual cycle. Patricia contacted me to schedule testing for Monday, November 10, 2025, and said she would text confirmation and more information. She later texted that Dr. Zarek would be in Columbia, but we could reschedule for Tuesday, November 11, 2025. I created an online account and entered my personal information and medical history. I received no other information. I arrived on time, but everything felt disorganized from the beginning. I was not told that I needed a full bladder. I was also asked for a urine sample without being informed in advance or told why. In summary, I needed a full bladder for the examination and also had to provide a small urine sample, which I did. The sample had no label with my information, and no one asked me to verify it. In the procedure room, the woman returned and asked why I was there, offering egg retrieval as an example. We proceeded, and they told me to record the procedure on my phone because they do not save images. I was glad it was quick and smooth and that everything looked good. The next day, I discovered they had not completed everything scheduled. My agency coordinator contacted them, and they again confirmed that they did offer the missing procedure, possibly depending on the timing of my cycle. Another nurse then called my agency coordinator and said they did not offer it and had tried to contact scheduling about this. I do not believe that explanation; if true, someone should have told me when the appointment was made.
They printed the appointment sheet and showed it to me at the end, so the issue should have been caught during scheduling. I now have to wait until my next cycle and go elsewhere to complete the missed procedure, delaying us another month. This is extremely frustrating and disappointing. I do not know whether the cause was inexperience or poor communication, but I hope you improve. I had high hopes that this fertility clinic would be the right place for my entire treatment process.

Our experience at Arbor Fertility was extremely disappointing. My wife and I had spent months seeking answers and came here for a test, hoping for clear explanations and compassionate care. Instead, the entire visit felt rushed and impersonal. The doctor, who claims to value empathy and communication, showed neither during our appointment. The evaluation lasted only a few minutes. When I asked questions, her tone and body language were dismissive, as though we were inconveniencing her. No guidance was provided before or after the visit, leaving us uncertain about the next steps. This journey requires compassion, patience, and communication, all of which were completely absent here. I sincerely hope the clinic and its management reflect on how damaging such experiences can be to patients who trust them.
We had planned to continue with other services here, but this experience left us seriously concerned about the clinic's approach to patient care.

Dr. Z was an excellent doctor throughout my IVF treatment. Although the process was long, I always felt supported and cared for. She is warm and attentive and takes the time to ensure you feel comfortable and informed. Thanks to her expertise, I became pregnant. I highly recommend this clinic and Dr. Z. After a terrible experience at another clinic, we went to Arbor. Choosing Arbor for our treatment was an excellent decision! Everyone was kind and helpful, even when I occasionally misunderstood something, and they encouraged us tremendously throughout treatment. They always responded within 24 hours, sometimes even sooner. The clinic's atmosphere is warm, calm, and encouraging. We highly recommend Arbor!

After two and a half years of unsuccessful IVF, I found Dr. Zarek at Arbor Fertility—and everything changed. She listened carefully, tailored my treatment plan, and introduced innovative methods I had never encountered elsewhere. The clinic felt warm and comfortable, not like an impersonal fertility factory.

Although I was not with this clinic for long, I can honestly say it was the first clinic I visited that truly listened to my needs and addressed my concerns instead of immediately pushing expensive treatment. Dr. Zarek skillfully addressed one concern, which I believe ultimately helped me become pregnant while I was transitioning and had not yet begun treatment at her clinic. She also ensured that my time and money would not be wasted, allowing me to use supportive measures and receive care from her during the transition before fully returning to my obstetrician-gynecologist. I look forward to continuing care with Arbor Fertility. They impressed me greatly from the start. I would recommend them to everyone for any treatment they offer, not only IVF or other more aggressive treatments!

My husband and I will always be grateful to Arbor Fertility and Dr. Zarek for everything they did to make our dream of parenthood come true! We live out of state, so we first met Dr. Zarek virtually, completed remote monitoring at a local clinic, and then traveled to Arbor Fertility for our frozen embryo transfer. The clinic is beautiful and incredibly relaxing! I had worried about the logistics, but there was no need. Everything went very smoothly. Even if they are not near you, there is no need to worry!
Dr. Zarek is an outstanding doctor! She is highly skilled and did everything possible to give us the best chance of success. The nursing staff were warm and promptly answered every question through the online portal or by phone. When my questions were more complex, Dr. Zarek answered them herself.
Infertility is a difficult journey, and everyone at Arbor Fertility gave us tremendous support. We were thrilled that our first transfer was successful and brought us our lovely daughter! If you are looking for the best fertility care, choose Arbor Fertility and Dr. Zarek!

I had little hopes of conceiving after my cancer journey. When I was finally cleared to start trying we were highly recommended to Arbor Fertility Clinic to weigh our options. They were absolutely amazing, clear expectations, clear steps and very upfront with pricing. After I became pregnant naturally they still checked up on me to make sure I am taking the right steps to ensure a healthy pregnancy journey. Staff was truly amazing!

We had an excellent experience at this fertility clinic and are incredibly grateful because we have achieved a pregnancy so far. Our doctor was knowledgeable and considerate, making us feel reassured and cared for throughout the process. We truly felt well looked after at every step.
My only suggestion would be clearer communication before appointments about expectations, timing, and next steps. Dr. Zarek and her team are amazing! We were looking for an adjunctive treatment other than IVF, specifically ovarian platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, which she offered. After consulting Dr. Zarek, we ultimately decided to proceed directly with IVF. I really appreciated the transparent pricing on their website, which let us know exactly what treatment would cost because we were paying out of pocket. Her fees were more affordable than those at the other clinics I had consulted. She was kind, approachable, knowledgeable, always helpful, and patient in answering our questions. I live in another state, so they helped arrange everything I needed from my hometown through egg retrieval, sparing me unnecessary long-distance travel. They also prescribed several adjunctive medications, including progesterone, enoxaparin, and prednisone. Although our first transfer was unsuccessful, we felt well cared for, heard, and supported. Ultimately, a few months after that transfer, we conceived naturally and welcomed a healthy baby boy! I highly recommend Arbor Fertility to anyone struggling with infertility and seeking help.

From the staff member who helped schedule my appointment and the nurses/assistants to Dr. Zarek, everyone was incredibly kind, respectful, and professional. After a terrible experience with my previous fertility doctor, I can honestly say that Dr. Zarek is the loveliest physician and has the best nurses. Marnee was extremely helpful in explaining all the medications and was available to answer questions. Dr. Zarek always checked in and made the demanding process much easier. Her prices are also very affordable.
