Meet Infertility Specialist Michelle Catenacci, M.D.
Dr. Michelle Catenacci was born and raised outside of Detroit, Michigan. She went to medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit and then moved to Ohio for post-graduate training.
Her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology was done at MetroHealth Medical Center/Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. She then stayed at the Cleveland Clinic to complete a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.
She is board-certified in both Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
An experienced minimally invasive surgeon
Dr. Michelle Catenacci has had extensive training in the most up-to-date minimally invasive surgical techniques with experience in operative hysteroscopy for treatment of fibroids, uterine septums, and uterine adhesions. She is experienced with both traditional laparoscopy and robotic surgery in the treatment of uterine fibroids.

Dr. Michelle Catenacci has been involved in several research programs:
Using an operative robot for tissue transplantation after cyropreservation. Sheep ovarian tissue was cryopreserved and then thawed for transplantation. Viability of ovarian tissue was latter assessed. This was the first study using the surgical robot for this procedure.
Evaluating outcomes of sperm DNA fragmentation on IVF outcome and also assessing the DNA fragmentation of sperm that bind to hyaluronic acid.</>
Investigating the ability to culture ovarian follicles and tissue in a 3-dimensional media.
Investigating the effects of fibroids and endometriosis on fertility.
Looking at long term outcomes of women that have had a bowel resection due to severe endometriosis.
Philosophy about infertility treatment
I find treating patients with infertility extremely rewarding. I understand the difficulties of infertility and work to support my patients throughout this difficult journey. Being able to help my patients achieve a healthy pregnancy is the best part of my job and what drew me to the field of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

You must practice witchcraft. I called to ask about fertility and IVG, signed an agreement as a new patient, and have a copy. No one discussed money. I could never log into my account and received no email, message, or call. Now, seven months later, you sent an invoice for a consultation I never received? You say it occurred in December 2023, but there was no call or anything else. Is your system functioning properly? Then you said you would send it to collections? Jesus! Am I dreaming? I will sue you and make you lose the desire to scam others. I am not hiding; I live in Louisiana and have a perfect credit score. If you put one mark on it, I will remind you that America is governed by law. Thieves! You want to exploit people? Not me!

My husband and I had a wonderful experience here. Dr. Reshef was transparent throughout and answered every question. During procedures, he talks you through the whole process and explains what you may feel and experience, which truly reassured me. The nurses are amazing, sweet, and gentle. I have only excellent things to say. You never wait long, and contacting them is easy through an app where you can message nurses. They usually reply within hours, which is excellent for a medical office. We highly recommend this place!

My wife and I had a wonderful experience at Advanced Fertility Center of Chicago and are delighted to expect our first child in December.
We first visited last year to speak with a doctor and understand IVF. The many IUI/IVF options can be overwhelming, but the team explained everything thoroughly and patiently answered all our questions.
Once treatment begins, the clinic provides very clear instructions through its portal. Communication is fast and thorough whenever questions arise.
My wife and I pursued reciprocal IVF and were fortunate to work with Dr. Reshef. His bedside manner is outstanding. He is compassionate, listens to concerns, gives thorough answers, guides you through every step, and treats you like family.
The staff are highly professional. Appointments are efficient, though you will not see a doctor at each visit. The clinic promptly reports test results and consults the doctor about your treatment plan. I highly recommend Advanced Fertility Center and would return as we continue growing our family.

They introduce new bills and financial policies every month. They now want patients to pay 75%. My total insurance deductible is $5,000, yet I was asked to prepay $3,600 before IVF and told this new policy takes effect May 1. Why was I not told a month earlier?

I had a terrible experience with a receptionist while trying to arrange a consultation. She was not at the Chicago center but schedules testing for new patients. As a new patient, I had questions, and she was very condescending. She used many testing abbreviations I naturally did not know and acted as though my questions were foolish. She transferred me to the local clinic but gave me the wrong number, so I reached her again and she responded rudely. When I finally completed the transfer by trying options myself, I simply canceled the appointment. It was deeply disappointing. People seeking fertility help already feel vulnerable and just want answers. An unkind, irritable employee makes the experience worse. I will not give this place any money.

We cannot give AFCC enough 5-star reviews, especially Dr. Catennaci and her entire team, who were extremely kind and caring!
We tested 6 embryos and obtained 2 euploid embryos and one HLM -8. Our children are nearly 4, 5, and 2 weeks old and are very healthy. Thank you so much; we will always be grateful.

Avoid. As many others have said, there is no patient care and billing is opaque. Dr. Catenacci should be investigated for poor performance and oversight of the clinic.

Unfortunately, it was a mixed experience. Scheduling and visits at North River were very efficient.
However, I received no clear guidance about the timing of the transfer process, and nurses gave different information with each update call. Our doctor was out of town performing surgery, which created significant problems. On retrieval day, one nurse did not know basic answers about the process, such as why embryo updates would take 9 (!) days, and had to find someone else to help.
When substantial time and resources are devoted to entrusting these medical professionals with decisions, it is not especially helpful to leave so many decisions to patients. We received two different recommendations, one from the laboratory and another from the doctor. I would not even have heard the doctor's advice if I had not strongly requested a discussion after receiving incomplete guidance from another nurse.
We had better experiences at other clinics. I tried this clinic because it was in network and had strong reviews, but most appear outdated and relate to doctors no longer there. I cannot recommend moving forward with this clinic.

Worst experience ever. They only wasted our time. We had been trying to schedule an appointment for two months. They canceled the first appointment because the forms had not been completed, but they canceled far too early. We were entitled to complete the forms before the appointment date, yet they canceled it after only a few days. My husband then scheduled a second appointment. They again said it had been canceled without giving any specific reason, then put my call on hold and disconnected it. After several attempts to speak with Alondra, she scheduled another appointment. We completed unsuccessful IVF and IUI treatments, but no one advised us what to do next or explained why they failed or did not work in my case. The doctors and nurses do not take patients seriously; they simply tell them to try another IVF or IUI cycle to make more money. They only care about money. After this clinic, I tried Chinese medicine and acupuncture for three months, conceived naturally, and am now 24 weeks pregnant. Thank God I did not try another IVF cycle.

A family member who used the clinic during an IVF journey referred me to Advanced Fertility Center of Chicago. I wanted to freeze my eggs before age 35. Although I did not have fertility problems, I felt egg preservation was a good option for me.
I had a positive experience at the clinic. They offer early-morning appointments beginning at 6 a.m., allowing me to complete every appointment before work. I did not need to take any time off during my IVF journey.
I spent most of my time with nurses for blood draws and ultrasounds to confirm that my body was responding to the medication. They also offered an excellent app with video instructions, which was very helpful.
My egg-freezing journey was successful during my first cycle.
However, I am deducting one star because I researched my doctor in advance, including publications and reviews, but learned the day before my procedure that she would be off on the day of my retrieval. I understand that it is important for doctors to take time off, but I wish I had been told earlier that this was possible. It would have been helpful to meet and become familiar with another provider. Learning the day before my retrieval that my doctor would not perform the procedure caused considerable stress.
Ultimately, I really liked the doctor who performed my retrieval, so everything went smoothly.
Overall, I highly recommend this clinic and would use its services again.

Working with AFC has been a dream. I just completed my third retrieval cycle, and our results have improved each time. They are kind, knowledgeable, efficient, clear, and responsive. This is a small detail, but all the spaces also feel thoughtfully designed—clean, modern, and calming. Very highly recommended.

The level of care I received made it clear that I had found the right place for treatment. The staff went above and beyond to answer my questions in person and through the Prelude app. They understand that the process can feel overwhelming, so they guide you one step at a time instead of giving you a large amount of information at once and expecting you to remember everything.
I appreciated having it broken down this way so I could focus on the next step. If my partner and I had broader questions and wanted to know more, we simply asked, and they were happy to explain the details. Having my partner with me was helpful so we could ask questions and participate in the entire process together.
Dr. Reshef's care team made me grateful for life. Dr. Catenacci performed my egg retrieval, and working with her during my journey showed that the doctors at the Gurnee location are all working toward the same goal. I truly love this place and highly recommend it!

My initial appointment with Dr. Kuyoro was the best experience I have had with a fertility physician or clinic. She did not offer false hope or set unrealistic expectations. She did give me some hope and demonstrated extensive knowledge, expertise, and care even during this first appointment. We have had a long and difficult fertility journey, and Dr. Kuyoro was a breath of fresh air.

As a first-time patient, I was nervous, but all the nurses were wonderful. Robin was excellent with all my blood draws. I often faint, but she talked me through everything, and apart from the first visit I never truly felt lightheaded. All the other nurses were also very kind. They always ensured I was well and comfortable. The day before my retrieval, I was very nervous because my hormone levels meant some things had not gone as planned. Robin explained the situation, and after discussing it with her, the path I am now taking may be better. I hope everything here continues to go as smoothly. I only need to wait and see how many embryos reach the freezing stage before my frozen transfer. Thank you, AFCC, for everything you have done so far and will do in the future. I would recommend them to anyone, 10/10!

The physicians and staff showed compassion, empathy, and a reassuring level of knowledge. I did not feel like a number; I felt like a person. I left feeling informed and hopeful, as though I had regained some control. Overall, it is rare to find such down-to-earth people in caregiving roles within healthcare, and it was meaningful to feel and see this at every level. We are very glad we found AFCC.

I am writing to you today to simply tell you that you are a clinic that does not help patients or theirs needs, you are there to do business nothing else the pain of patients and their desire to have is not your priority, dear parents , my name is virginie, I contacted this clinic in 2023 and I was desperate, I wanted a child, the lady on the phone told me that the consultation was $275, I started the procedures that is to say opening an account in the patient portal, they set an appointment that you will see in the different screenshots that I will post after this comment, on the day, I did not receive any call since I did not know when the appointment was going to take place with the doctor online, I received no notification, nothing, shortly after I received a mail saying that I owe $275, I called tired, I spoke with tons and tons of supervisors, they told me that they were going to investigate, I never received any response, never an email or text message for any decision regarding their investigations, today I go to retrieve my mails and I see their email where they threaten to send my delinquent account to their collection partners, where do you know me to treat me like delinquent ? you think a delinquent person can have a perfect credit score without be an example citizen ? I also took a screenshot of this copy, I called today again!! and the agent told me again!! like she will send this case to her supervisor and they will back to me , that is the liars, like they said to me last year, and she said like she saw like my last conversation with the last agent have a conclusion about their investigation, she said they said I did the video call but the last time when I spoke with the agent she told me like I miss the video call now I was there, you guys are joking, If you never saw a person who keep everything, I'm the one even my receipts for last year I keep it, all the records I have it because I knew It's gone help me, I called your agents several times and I recorded them, all my conversations with your clinic are with me, the calls, the emails and my account in your patient portal which was blocked and which you later unblocked, I am working hard, I don't collect the money, $275 is nothing but I won't give them to you because I received any service, I know my rights and my duties, we will go to court to decide this case, I have all my time, no matter how it costs me, I will come back here again and I will post the justice decisions, you tried all the means to steal my money I always showed my evidence and I have always demonstrated the flaws in your management system, The USA is a country of law, I dare you to put stain on my credit score who is clean, I will take actions to demonstrate to the world that you are an unscrupulous clinic and scam, two and several years later you are still behind me, I moved, I do not know who gave my new address, it is harassment and I did not take you seriously now I will move to the upper stage, there are many other clinic, dear parents go elsewhere, These people will no longer give you the expected results but will mentally destroy you with the fictitious invoices, it's just I can't download the voice I recorded but I will use it when I will sue you, God is there for everybody and he have the last word

Stay away from this clinic. The only compassionate and competent person there was Dr. Irani, and he has left. What remains is a chaotic, indifferent, and completely predatory clinic. You must call and leave messages repeatedly just to get a basic response, only to discover that major medical decisions were made without anyone speaking to you. The front desk staff are rude, and the billing department is dishonest, charging for unexplained items you never agreed to with no transparency despite repeated requests. If you value your family, finances, and dignity, go somewhere that genuinely cares about you.

I cannot thank Dr. Debra Schell enough. I had struggled for years after seeing an OB-GYN and undergoing three unsuccessful IUI cycles. I later met Dr. Debra Schell and scheduled all the IVF testing. During hysteroscopy, she found and removed polyps. While waiting for my period to begin further testing, I became pregnant, and my period never came! She relieved a great deal of emotional stress and made my fertility journey easier. Thank you.

I am a woman of healthy weight with no health problems, and I have never smoked, consumed alcohol, or used drugs, yet they rejected me. It is terrible that I went to such effort to help someone with fertility problems become pregnant, only to have my egg donation application rejected. Is that not ironic? I become pregnant easily but never want to be pregnant, and I am completely healthy. I had hoped to help patients who struggle to obtain eggs from healthy donors and make the process positive for them.

This review concerns the clinic's administrative/billing department. At my initial consultation, they told me my insurance was accepted and that later procedures such as hysteroscopy would be covered. Of course, they were wrong and later told me I had to pay $1,400 out of pocket even though I had not done anything. Billing here is a nightmare. I called twice to ask about the balance and received no response for months. When I called to pay, the person who answered said they were not authorized to process payments for the AH office and told me to call back later. The inefficiency is a major warning sign. I recommend going elsewhere because this clinic's administration is terrible.

They patiently answer every question and explain each treatment process and why it is necessary. You are never treated like a number here, but as a patient they genuinely care about. I wish I could give this clinic a negative rating. I am 31 and recently began my egg-freezing journey after extensive research. I chose Advanced Fertility Center of Chicago based on reviews, social media, statistics, and my initial consultation. Unfortunately, what followed was heartbreaking and extremely stressful.
I had my first consultation in October 2025 and liked the doctor. After meeting the nursing, patient coordination, and financial teams, I felt hopeful—everything seemed consistent with a reputable fertility clinic. My initial testing went smoothly, and I received my hormone results within days; everything was normal. After that, everything fell apart.
I waited weeks for my AMH result and received no information about next steps. I sent several emails without a response. I rearranged my holidays, changed plans with friends, bought all required supplies, and prepared my FSA funds to pay for the procedure, all based on the simple process they had described. A full month passed with no update. I kept hearing that the financial team was working on it or that the planning nurse had information, but nothing actually progressed.
Because of the delays and silence, I ultimately had to spend my remaining FSA funds on other eligible items so I would not lose the money—funds I had specifically saved for this procedure. This was devastating, especially after being told I could easily complete the procedure before year-end.
I finally received a response only after saying I would file a complaint. A nursing supervisor apologized, said she did not know what had happened, and asked whether I wanted to continue with them. I made several basic, reasonable requests: an explanation, the cost estimate promised months earlier, and clear next steps. Once again, I heard nothing. Another week passed, and that was the final straw.
I have now filed a formal complaint with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and feel compelled to share my experience so others do not face the same emotional, financial, and logistical distress. This clinic cost me significant time, money, and energy. What should have been an empowering and exciting step in my life became defined by stress, silence, and complete disorganization.
Because of this clinic's poor care, I now have to restart the entire process while dealing with ongoing anxiety and disappointment. I strongly advise anyone considering egg freezing or fertility treatment to look elsewhere.

This was my second time receiving care at Advanced Fertility Center of Chicago, and words cannot express my gratitude for this clinic and team.
I first underwent IVF here in 2021 and gave birth to my son in 2022. At that time, I visited the Chicago location. This time I went to the Arlington Heights location, and the experience again exceeded my expectations.
My primary nurse was Kacey, supported by her nursing team. She was outstanding—professional, thorough, kind, patient, and always reassuring. She made every step clear and manageable and communicated exceptionally well.
My embryo transfer was performed by Dr. Catenacci, who also performed my previous transfer. She is a true expert—calm, confident, positive, and compassionate. You immediately feel that you are receiving the best care.
I am sincerely grateful to the entire team, especially these two remarkable women, for their daily care, dedication, and miracles. The process was clear, communication was smooth, and every detail was thoroughly explained. Everything was organized and seamless, which matters greatly during such an emotional journey.
I am so glad I trusted my instincts and returned to the same clinic for my second attempt. If you are looking for a fertility clinic and feel afraid or uncertain, trust their expertise. They are true professionals who will guide and support you throughout the process.

I do not write this lightly, because I know how important choosing a clinic is during a fertility journey. But after witnessing my friend's terrible experience at Advanced Fertility Center of Chicago, I felt compelled to speak up. I watched her initial excitement and anticipation turn into disappointment and sadness. At first, she liked the doctors and team she met and quickly received her initial test results. They assured her the process would remain on schedule and that they would communicate throughout testing and preparation. She bought all required supplies, including expensive supplements, and had specifically set aside FSA funds the previous year to pay for them. Spoiler: because the clinic's unprofessional conduct delayed the process from 2025 into 2026, she was ultimately unable to use those FSA funds.
After the first few days of communication, the clinic essentially disappeared for weeks. She repeatedly contacted them for updates, but they did not respond until after several attempts. After weeks with almost no communication, she said she needed access to her records and test results because she planned to find another clinic. They still did not respond until she threatened legal action.
The head nurse apologized and convincingly promised to address the problem with “care.” Trusting her, my friend gave them another chance, provided she could understand what had gone wrong and what would happen next so she could prepare. The head nurse again disappeared for more than a week, until my friend formally said she would no longer work with them. Although the head nurse had promised to investigate personally, someone else replied, and the head nurse showed no courtesy. Unfortunately, my experience was terrible. I booked far in advance and repeatedly confirmed the appointment and all pre-registration materials. When I called hours before today’s appointment to confirm the address, I learned it was canceled. I had taken off work and arranged for my mother to care for my puppy. Haley said she would “find a way to squeeze me in,” then transferred me to nurse Mary. Instead of comfort, support, or apologies, they made me feel at fault and bothersome. They arranged telehealth, but my husband and I declined because we had wanted in-person care. I asked for the clinic manager, possibly Tiffany, but she never called. When I canceled telehealth and explained why, another representative offered no apology and hung up before I finished. As a healthcare professional, I find this unprofessional and unacceptable. Everyone in healthcare—receptionists, nurses, and doctors—shapes the patient experience. We will not use this clinic or its branches. Pregnancy is special, and I want to share it with people who care about my family. I booked another recommended clinic with excellent service.

A complete waste of time—do not go. I came for a consultation, and the previous reviews were correct. They push you straight toward IVF without caring about the cause. The female doctor I saw kept holding and checking her phone even after it rang 20 times. They make you complete many forms and submit records, but do not review them before your visit. When I said I did not want IVF, she became extremely rude and said it might be my only option, despite knowing nothing about my case. When I later tried to soften the conversation, she said someone would call to arrange lab work because she had been in the restroom, but no one called. A prescription I was supposed to receive was never sent. This clinic has no compassion, and I have never encountered such an unprofessional doctor. She said exactly what other negative reviews described. I am glad I read them first. This consultation was a total waste of time and has made me anxious about seeing other specialists.

1. This clinic is close to my home. The fertility journey is not easy, so being nearby is very important. It is wonderful to have so many medical facilities close by!
2. The clinic has an on-site laboratory, which is excellent because I do not have to drive elsewhere for blood draws and testing. Having everything in one place is very convenient!
3. The laboratory team does outstanding work. I am afraid of needles, and some tests can be uncomfortable, but the staff were professional and efficient and completed everything quickly.
4. Dr. Debra is truly my lifesaver! I arrived with many questions, and her ability to take action was remarkable. Dr. Debra explained all my bloodwork and test results in detail and advised me on achieving my ultimate goal of becoming a mother. She was very patient, took time to answer every question, and explained everything clearly. She is the best doctor I could have found. I know there is still much to do, but now I have hope and can see myself becoming a mother soon.
I sincerely appreciate the entire team!

Everyone, from the front desk staff to Dr. Sher, made us feel welcome and comfortable. They had a wonderful attitude and communicated very well. Dr. Sher was excellent. She explained everything in detail and answered our questions in the way we needed. If there was anything we did not understand, she explained it differently until we fully understood. As first-time patients, she gave us many options. They also scheduled all the tests we needed very quickly. I really like this clinic. I became pregnant on my second IUI attempt. Thank you, ladies. For the first IUI, I was not told that I should have a full bladder, and the sperm was not ready on time. At my last visit, I waited 30 minutes. I was going to give 4 stars, but considering that I now have a baby, that would not be fair. Thank you again.

I switched practices because of poor care and diagnosis. There was always a long wait to be seen, and the nurses were consistently rude. When I told a nurse that I sometimes faint during blood draws, she simply wished me good luck. The billing department kept sending bills but would not explain what they were for, even when I requested itemized receipts. After switching to another office, I learned that Advanced Fertility had not even performed the standard tests at the beginning and had pushed me directly toward IVF. The doctor did not know how to use the ultrasound equipment, and a nurse had to come in during my appointment to teach her before ultimately taking over. The entire experience was disorganized and extremely stressful.

This clinic is wonderful when you first start, but once we discovered my tubes were blocked, it became absolute hell. Dr. Scher went from responsive to unresponsive, and the office staff generally did not care. People come here for help because they have no other choice. I am writing to tell you that if you already feel hopeless, this place will not improve your situation. They referred me to another office for my tubal problem, and that office was equally terrible. I have lost all hope in the healthcare system. I needed a CD containing my results, but they sent everything except the CD. My husband then had to go in person for two copies and deliver them to the doctor they recommended, only to be told again that they were incorrect. They claimed they contacted that office, but the other office told me this was a lie and that no one had called. In this day and age, it has been endless back-and-forth with no concern. I saw many poor reviews of this clinic and ignored them, thinking I should give them a chance. Unfortunately, I am learning the hard way. Thank you for the mind games and lack of communication, and most importantly, for treating me as a number instead of a person.

I was very dissatisfied with my experience at Advanced Fertility Center in Gurnee. Although my initial consultation with Dr. Debra Schell was detailed, I often found that she went off topic and did not answer my specific questions. As someone outside the medical field, I also found her explanations confusing because they were not clear enough, requiring me to repeatedly ask for clarification.
Scheduling the initial consultation went smoothly, but communication broke down severely afterward. The clinic insists on using the Prelude Portal for all updates and communication, including test results and scheduling, with almost no human interaction. For something as personal and emotional as a fertility journey, the lack of direct communication, such as a call from a doctor or nurse, was extremely frustrating.
During a vaginal examination, I experienced significant pain, but Dr. Schell stopped only after the nurse pointed out that I was crying. Afterward, I never received a call from the doctor to check on my well-being, which felt dismissive and uncaring. Overall, the office seemed to lack empathy. At times, nurses spoke condescendingly to my husband and me, adding to our discomfort.
One especially frustrating moment occurred when I explained that traveling an hour each day for monitoring was difficult and asked whether accommodations could be made for monitoring closer to home. Dr. Schell replied, “Well, it takes me an hour to get here for work every day.” I found this extremely rude and dismissive because it completely disregarded my request and the challenge I had described. I strongly suggest she avoid making comments like this in the future.
The clinic's strict requirement for on-site monitoring, even though we live an hour away, was another inconvenience. It added unnecessary financial and logistical strain to an already difficult process. Despite the high costs, potentially over $7,000, the level of care and attention to patient needs fell short.
Even after procedures or tests, I received no follow-up calls. Everything was posted in the portal, leaving me to check for updates and initiate communication myself. I called the clinic several times and often received no response. The lack of follow-up made the process feel more like a business transaction than patient care.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend this clinic. To improve, they need to focus on better communication, train staff in empathy, ensure timely follow-up, and avoid treating patients like just another case. Fertility treatment is deeply personal and emotionally taxing, and patients need a supportive, compassionate team to guide them.

I have been very pleased with Dr. Catenacci and her team. I had one unsuccessful IUI and then conceived naturally during the next cycle. Dr. Catenacci and her nurses were very supportive, responded immediately, and were also very helpful with my laboratory work. Their portal is easy to use, and laboratory results are available quickly. I ultimately miscarried, but they were very supportive during that difficult time. In a few months, I will try IVF with her for the first time. I did not feel like just another patient at this clinic and was treated compassionately.

My husband and I struggled with fertility problems for years. We underwent multiple IUI and FET cycles and had to change doctors. We finally met Dr. Catenacci, who was the answer to our prayers. After multiple miscarriages, we came to AFC in Gurnee seeking answers and solutions for several fertility issues. We are very glad we did. This week, our son joined our family. There could be no better outcome.
During treatment, we worked mainly with Dr. Tumi, with occasional appointments with Dr. Catenacci and Dr. Reshef. All were kind, thoughtful, and professional. Early on, Dr. Tumi seemed genuinely curious about the underlying cause rather than simply ordering standard tests. When we thought we were miscarrying because of a subchorionic hematoma, she arranged an ultrasound for the next morning.
Billing was straightforward. We had BCBSIL Select PPO coverage, and after the first appointment they promptly explained what insurance would cover. As with any ongoing medical care, repeated visits, procedures, and lab fees can be uncomfortable, but we were never surprised.
We drove from Milwaukee to Gurnee because AFC was recommended and because we were disappointed with care at a large regional hospital, Aurora. If we need fertility care again, we would make the winter commute again.

The doctors and nurses did their best, but I believe they were caring for too many patients at once to give each person adequate attention. There were communication problems with my prescriptions and the prior authorization for genetic testing. The companies involved had difficulty reaching the appropriate person at the clinic, delaying my treatment.
I chose this clinic because of its strong doctor-patient communication and high success rates, but the administrative paperwork was very frustrating.

I mean no offense to your company; I simply want a response. Tomorrow is my scheduled date. I have kept calling, and the front desk repeatedly told me that I was on the waiting list and someone would definitely contact me today. No one did. I sent three texts and made three calls. This is the second time this has happened. The same thing occurred during my first egg retrieval, and because I was afraid it would happen again, I have tried hard to prevent it. We received treatment here for about a year, and now our baby has arrived! From my first consultation with Dr. Schell, I knew she truly cared about her patients. She patiently explained the IVF process and made it feel less intimidating. I never felt rushed and always felt she was guiding me in the right direction. When I later needed surgery elsewhere, she helped me find an excellent surgeon, and I trusted her recommendation completely. Everyone at AFCC is kind and welcoming. The nurses in particular are always happy to answer questions during follow-up calls, which is very reassuring. My doctor is Dr. Tumi. She is warm and sincere and, most importantly, an excellent listener. From start to finish, she carefully listened to our questions and concerns and even took time between appointments to call and check on us. A close friend recommended AFCC to me, and I would recommend it to everyone!

Had a great experience here with Dr Tumi. I came from another fertility clinic and AFCC did so much more testing and uncovered issues that my first clinic did not. Additionally, Dr Tumi's nurses are really kind, especially Vanessa, and I always got calls and updates on time and always knew my next steps. I've graduated from the clinic with a healthy baby!

I rarely leave negative reviews, but unfortunately I have no choice but to give this clinic one star.
After reading many positive reviews and receiving recommendations from families who had successful experiences with AFC, I decided to seek a second opinion there following one failed FET and a miscarriage. My experience with Dr. R was excellent. He is knowledgeable, professional, and clearly experienced in his field.
However, my experience with Dr. R’s care team was disappointing due to ongoing communication issues. Throughout my time with AFC, messages often went unanswered for 2–3 days, which was frustrating during such an emotionally sensitive process.
Most recently, I underwent an FET and had my first beta test performed outside of AFC on a Thursday. The results were faxed to the clinic. Initially, I was told the care team had not received them. Shortly afterward, a nurse informed me that the receptionist had the results and that I would receive a phone call later that afternoon (Friday) to discuss the results and next steps.
Unfortunately, 4:00 PM came and went without any call. At that point, I was feeling extremely anxious and upset. I sent another message asking what I was supposed to do since I had not received any guidance. The following morning, a nurse who was not part of Dr. R’s team contacted me, apologized for the situation, stated she would notify the appropriate care team, and advised me that if I already knew my beta results, I could discontinue my medications.
Communication and timely follow-up are critical in fertility care. Patients rely on their care teams for guidance during some of the most stressful and emotional moments of their lives. While I appreciate Dr. R’s expertise, AFC needs to improve communication, responsiveness, and patient support within the care team. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so future patients have a better experience.

I would give zero stars if I could. Dr. Sher uses fear to make you believe you have no choice but to pay thousands of dollars for IVF. How could she conclude that after one quick ultrasound on a random day of your cycle? Completely wrong. During our consultation, all she did was discuss another patient who conceived multiples through IVF and how dangerous it was. She did not ask about my or my husband's medical history or try to understand us. She simply placed a large ‘infertile’ label on our foreheads, and I left in tears. This process is already stressful enough; find a doctor who cares more about you than money. To make matters worse, they lost our paperwork, so we had to complete it by hand at the appointment. The Downers Grove office is only a satellite location, and you must travel to Gurnee for all procedures.

AFCC is disappointing and terrible to work with. They lack empathy and attention to detail and do not understand what a patient-centered facility means. Dr. Sher should be ashamed of herself and her nurses, who offer nothing but poor attitudes and incompetence.

I do not know how Debra Schell became a doctor or how she came to work in IVF. She lacks clinical ethics, is frustrating to deal with, provides poor follow-up, and delivers poor results. Sadly, whenever I think back on my IVF journey, she comes to mind and leaves me feeling bitter. I hope she does not ruin other women's experiences. The hiring process for fertility doctors should be better than simply valuing someone with a degree. With so many negative reviews, I do not understand how she is still practicing.

The doctors have zero empathy: Dr. Debra Schell and Dr. Eli Reshef.
They treat you as if they were treating you for free or doing you a favor.
My experience at this clinic was the worst thing I have ever been through.
This is an unscrupulous clinic!
They only care about your money. They do not actually care about you!
If you are seeking donor eggs or treatment using eggs, be very careful. The price seems very good because they claim to offer high-quality eggs from young donors, but after 4 failed FETs with donor eggs, I now believe this is false and that they are deceiving you.
They took all our savings and, most importantly, our hope!
