Dr. AYKUT BAYRAK, United States
Dr. Bayrak is the founder and medical director of LA IVF, a Southern California fertility clinic group, and is one of the most highly regarded fertility specialists in the United States and internationally. He was born in Northampton, Massachusetts, raised in the Midwest and outside the United States, and lived in Boston and New York during medical school and training. After medical school, Dr. Bayrak conducted reproductive medicine research at the State University of New York, focusing on the initiation of egg growth and delaying menopause. Based on original research he performed as an intern, he received the Brooklyn Gynecological Society's “Prize Paper” award. After gaining research experience, he completed a four-year OB/GYN residency at New York Methodist Hospital–Weill Cornell Medical College. The Physicians Alumni Association named him “Best Resident,” and the following year he received the “Special Excellence in Endoscopic Procedures” award for his advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgical skills.
After training in general obstetrics and gynecology in New York, he completed a three-year reproductive endocrinology and infertility fellowship at the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. During his first fellowship year, he received the “Prize Paper” award at the 51st annual meeting of the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society for his landmark research on hyperprolactinemia. In subsequent years, he also received the Pacific Coast Obstetrical and Gynecological Society's Frank Lynch Memorial Essay Award, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine/Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Fellowship Research Prize Paper Award, a European Society for Photobiology fellowship, a Pacific Coast Reproductive Society award, and a Cook-Davajan Training Award. More recently, he was selected as a “Top Fertility Specialist” and named a “Doctor's Doctor.” Dr. Bayrak is dual board-certified in general obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility.
Dr. Bayrak began his private practice career in Manhattan, New York, where he practiced for several years before returning to Los Angeles as medical director of the Southern California office of the nation's largest fertility practice. As founder and medical director of LA IVF, he continues his career with offices in West Los Angeles, Pasadena, Chino Hills, and San Diego.
Dr. Bayrak's clinical expertise includes treating unexplained infertility, diminished ovarian reserve, advanced reproductive age, complex infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, laparoscopic pelvic surgery, third-party reproduction (egg/sperm donation and surrogacy), egg freezing, and ovulatory disorders such as hyperprolactinemia and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). His clinical interests include applying preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) in IVF and preserving fertility through egg freezing (oocyte vitrification).
Dr. Bayrak reports that in 2010, Southern California's first baby was born from a genetically tested frozen egg. He also treated some of the first preimplantation genetic testing cases, formerly known as CGH, using ultra-rapid freezing and comprehensive chromosome and genetic screening of embryos, resulting in live births.
He has written numerous scientific abstracts, articles, and medical textbook chapters on ovarian aging, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), egg donation, and embryo transfer techniques. Dr. Bayrak has presented his research as an invited speaker at national and international scientific conferences. He currently participates in continuing medical education (CME) lectures for residents and general obstetrician-gynecologists. He reviews for the leading journals Fertility and Sterility and The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Bayrak is a diplomate of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI), Pacific Coast Reproductive Society (PCRS), American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). He is currently licensed to practice in New York, New Jersey, and California and is affiliated with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.
Dr. Bayrak enjoys skiing, soccer, travel, and spending time with his family. A perfectionist, he is committed to providing patients with the highest level of care and helping them achieve their goal of having a child.
