Dr. ROBIN GOLDSMITH, United States
Dr. Goldsmith is President, Chief Medical Officer, and co-founder of St. Gianna Clinic. She practiced anesthesiology in northeastern Wisconsin for nearly 20 years, specializing in obstetric anesthesia, a field that allowed her to apply her medical skills in support of the right to life. Her devout Catholic faith became evident when she co-founded Medical Students for Life at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine. In 1996, Dr. Goldsmith received the Gertie Marx Research Award, then the only research honor presented by the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology. Her research has appeared in leading journals, including the International Journal of Obstetric Anesthesia and Neuroscience. In 2015, the Diocese of Green Bay presented Dr. Goldsmith with the Faith That Works Award for influencing the workplace through business practices reflecting Jesus Christ and Church teachings, and for sharing her experience with the diocese and community. In 2016, she received Wisconsin's Pro-Life Activist of the Year Award for communicating the Church's teachings on life, love, and family through her work in support of everyone's health and well-being. More recently, she received the Outstanding Defender of Excellence Award from the Catholic Medical Association. Dr. Goldsmith co-founded St. Gianna Molla Clinic in 2014. Bishop David Ricken formally designated St. Gianna Clinic as the first “Catholic teaching clinic” in the United States. The growing clinic has become a sustainable, replicable national model for providing high-quality, faith-consistent healthcare to all while sharing the Gospel with patients and families within and beyond the diocese. Dr. Goldsmith served on the Wisconsin Society of Anesthesiologists board for more than 15 years and as a state delegate and alternate delegate to the American Society of Anesthesiologists, contributing to major decisions on national standards of care and medical protocols. Dr. Goldsmith and her husband, Paul, also a physician, have four sons and are active members of St. Pius X Parish in Appleton. She has participated many times in national and local Marches for Life. She chaired the St. Paul Parish Total Education Committee and served on the Green Bay Diocesan Total Faith Formation Committee. She has also served as a spiritual mentor for the St. Pius X Christ Renews His Parish program and as an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist. Dr. Goldsmith was co-founder and president of the St. Gianna Molla Guild (NEW), served as Wisconsin State Director of the Catholic Medical Association after nationally piloting the CMA State Director program, and served as a regional director of the Catholic Medical Association. She is Midwest Regional Director on the Catholic Medical Association's national board and serves on several committees, including as co-chair of the Catholic Clinics Committee. She also serves on other boards, including Catholic Youth Expeditions. Dr. Goldsmith has spoken in support of the right to life at events nationwide, including to hundreds of young people at the March for Life in Washington, D.C. “Pray as though everything depended on God; act as though everything depended on you.” This favorite spiritual quotation from St. Augustine aptly describes Dr. Goldsmith's philosophy as an energetic leader.
