Doctor Introduction

Dr. Paul Miller, United States

Although I have lived in states across the country, I am proud to call South Carolina home. My family and I love nearly everything about it—from the beaches to the mountains—and I feel that the warmth and generosity of its people align well with our own family values.

My wife and I enjoy traveling and often visit our children, who are now grown and live throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. I also enjoy golf and soccer—activities I never expected to continue for so long—but I am fortunate to have strong joints and a fun group of peers. I am the first to admit that my mind thinks I am 30, even if my body does not! I occasionally run, cycle, or swim, and my wife usually keeps pace and motivates me to continue.

The service-oriented side of medicine first drew me to Women's Health and remains deeply rewarding. Few people outside our field can say they help couples achieve lifelong goals, such as building a family and becoming parents, after years of struggle. I fully understand the trust and responsibility this entails and always strive to ensure that my patients are treated with respect, compassion, and kindness. Most of the time, I feel like one of the luckiest people on earth.

This clinic was the greatest waste of my time and money, especially since fertility treatment is already a soul-draining process. At this clinic, you are an algorithm. Honestly, I did not expect a personalized experience because healthcare no longer works that way, but this was still an incredibly poor experience. After seeking an opinion elsewhere, my “unexplained infertility” was explained by diagnoses of stage IV endometriosis and low progesterone. This clinic pushed IVF, and I am glad we stopped before that because now, with a diagnosis, I know it would not have worked before addressing the actual cause. It deeply saddens me that the standard for helping women achieve fertility is so low. This is why we sought treatment from specialists in the first place, and it was very upsetting when they even refused to test hormone levels.

After 12 years of secondary infertility and genetic issues, I am currently rocking my newborn. I cannot thank Dr. Miller, the other doctors, and the staff enough for everything they did for my family!

So far, I have had a wonderful experience at this office. I have seen Chelsea Fox for over two years. She and her nurse Melissa gave me options, provided a clear infertility diagnosis, and allowed me to advocate for myself and ask questions without being condescending. Dr. Fox has done everything possible to help me become pregnant, and I believe she will continue until I do. Melissa has been extremely helpful throughout my journey and is kind, warm, and empathetic. Dr. Fox is straightforward when presenting statistics. Some people may not like that, but I appreciate a doctor who is candid, and she delivers the information warmly. The front desk staff now know my name and are always friendly when I arrive. Cynthia in finance has been very helpful. As noted in other reviews, charges sometimes appear automatically in mychart even after payment; you simply need to ask for them to be removed. You may occasionally see other doctors, and Dr. Lisa Green has been pleasant every time. The IVF nurses are also very helpful. Sometimes they send group messages, but at least they respond promptly. Hannah took especially good care of me during my retrieval and was a bright light. Ms. Lynn, who sometimes draws my blood, is wonderful, as are the two early-morning ultrasound technicians. I feel welcome here and always have.

Find another location. Dealing with this office was a nightmare. The office manager, Missy, was rude and knew little about basic job responsibilities. I personally believe the office deliberately commits fraud, and I will report it to the fraud department. They surprise you with a $400 invoice that was never mentioned before the appointment, then refuse service if you do not pay. Note that this appointment took 4 months to schedule. They claimed insurance reviews take 45 days, so they collected the full amount in advance. My insurance paid after 4 days, but I still have not received a refund after more than 2 months. I called and sent chart messages, but they refused to speak with me, so I will file a fraud complaint. A billing representative named Cindy called and began telling me I owed $5,000. I knew that was wrong and tried to have her correct herself, but she insisted and upset me. Then she said she had been discussing another patient's bill. How would that make you feel? She then claimed I owed $280 for a phone appointment and insisted insurance had paid nothing. In fact, insurance covered everything except a $25 copay. I raised my concerns with Johanna Von Hofe, who forced me to pay on the spot or be denied service. She also placed a note in my chart claiming she had called me about the issue, but my phone records show no call. She even altered the call record, whatever that may mean. I visited this location twice and spent more than 24 hours with various departments correcting problems. I do not know what your time is worth, but they overcharge and hope you will not notice or request a refund. If you ask or point it out, they ignore you and tell you to call public advocacy. I called, and they claimed I had to pursue the facility directly before they could act, which makes no sense. I believe someone will sue them soon. The conduct is blatant.

We have had the best experience so far. Dr. Von Hoff and Dr. Green are wonderful. The front desk staff, ultrasound staff, laboratory staff, and financial team have also been excellent. Everyone is very friendly and professional and makes you feel comfortable in a frightening and vulnerable situation. I cannot thank them enough.

I gave it three stars because I liked the doctor; otherwise, it would have received one. He accompanied us through our fertility journey. He was very good, gave us excellent options, encouraged us, and we became pregnant. Unfortunately, he is no longer there. During our second round, the doctor who took over made it clear from the outset that our journey might not succeed, discouraged us from pursuing IVF, yet still wanted us to proceed with IVF even though they believed it would fail. We have been waiting for a follow-up appointment, and no one has contacted us.

I decided to give up on becoming pregnant after coming here for my third IVF attempt. Dr. Green and Brittany are the only two people here who truly know what they are doing. The IVF nurses seem unable to document patient charts. I received the wrong chart/schedule twice. They actually forgot to prescribe my stimulation injections before my egg retrieval!! I had to abandon the cycle. Sadly, after I obtained the medication and brought it to the clinic for them to check again, an IVF nurse told me that checking my medication was unnecessary. The finance department mishandled my payment and tried to charge me again for the embryo transfer until I provided all my documents and payment records. During my first two IVF cycles, when I became pregnant, I never felt stressed. At this clinic, I felt that if I did not monitor everything constantly, they would miss it all. The stress they caused was overwhelming. I am grateful that I understood the process, but I worry about families undergoing IVF for the first time at this clinic. They do not know what is happening or understand the process, and they are being taken advantage of. Please spend a few thousand dollars more and go elsewhere, because this clinic is not worth it. People give you so much of their hard-earned money because we want a child, yet you take that for granted and fail to do your jobs.

At every visit, I was treated with kindness and respect, which anyone familiar with IVF knows is important. I was impressed by the clinic staff, nurses, and doctors. I saw Dr. Likes, Dr. Greene, and Dr. Fox, who were all excellent, and ultimately chose Dr. Von Hofe. She was a pleasure to work with. She took time to answer my countless questions, genuinely cared about us, and wanted to help us build a family. I believe everyone here shares the same goal: doing everything possible to help women become pregnant. I also never had any billing problems. We paid out of pocket, and I actually still have a $20 credit that I hope to use next year. If you are reading these reviews while looking for the ‘best’ doctor/clinic, remember that although the goal may be the same, each of us faces different obstacles that affect our outcomes. We are all fearfully and wonderfully made. Do not lose heart. Hold on to hope. Sincerely, an older mother with a low egg count and a husband with cystic fibrosis.

I struggle with what to say. After all, my wife wanted a baby, and we left with one. If that's our single measure of success, then the clinic was successful. The process with Prisma and our experience with the clinic, however, was...a mixed bag. It's definitely a money-making enterprise, and they were selling us a product from the first call. After getting off the phone with the doctor, I said, "If reproductive endocrinology doesn't work out for her, she could always sell timeshares." That high-pressure sales pitch never wavered throughout our experience. For example, we told them many times that we were not interested in a certain product, but they kept trying to push it on us no matter how often we said we wouldn't do it. And we were initially led to believe the journey would be much easier, cheaper, and more straightforward than it really was. Attitudes to patients varied widely by provider. Some doctors seemed like they were genuinely on our side. We were driving the bus, and they were helping us navigate. Others were out to take charge of our fertility and direct our path for us. Still others made us feel small with repeated "sweet girl" comments every time we asked a question. Don't get me started on billing and finance. They were a nightmare at every single point of contact and continue to be a thorn in our sides long after our experience with the clinic ended. It's not just that insurance for fertility is complex work. These people have proven themselves incompetent at a whole new level. Did we get what we wanted from this clinic? Well...yes. Did we get treated the way we wanted? Yes and no. Would we do it again? I think you'd get a different answer from each of us depending on which one you asked and the day you asked.

After 17 long years of trying to conceive, my husband and I had nearly lost hope. Then we met Dr. Fox, and everything changed. From our first consultation, she showed genuine compassion, patience, and understanding of our emotional journey. She carefully explained every step of the IVF process, kindly answered all our questions, and tailored the treatment plan to our unique situation. The care and professionalism of Dr. Fox and her team were extraordinary. They made what could have been a stressful process feel manageable and hopeful. Every visit felt personal, not routine, and we always felt supported and informed. Thanks to Dr. Fox’s expertise and dedication, after 17 years of waiting, we are finally expecting our miracle baby in early January. Yes, 17 years :) Words cannot express our gratitude to her and her excellent team. If you are struggling with infertility and looking for someone who truly cares, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Fox. She helped make our dream come true, and we will always be grateful.

This clinic performed 5 intrauterine inseminations (IUIs) despite my left fallopian tube being blocked, which I only learned after seeking a second opinion. Both of my daughters were conceived on the first medicated IUI attempt, so I knew something was wrong. FCC does not evaluate patients in person and instead encourages IVF despite the higher cost. If that is the kind of “quality care” you want, this clinic is perfect for you. Be prepared to act like your own fertility doctor during visits. I highly recommend PREG; even CNY Fertility is much better 🫶

My wife and I are undergoing infertility treatment, and the VA referred me here. Despite unpleasant experiences at other Prisma clinics, I reluctantly scheduled an appointment. Several years had passed, and I thought things might have improved. First, one of the many reminder texts sent before my appointment included the wrong address. The messages repeatedly asked me to confirm that I would attend. When I arrived, a nurse took me to an uncomfortable room, pointed to a form for me to complete, handed me a cup, told me the door was locked, and left without further explanation. Half the equipment in the collection room was broken or unusable. The entire clinic was extremely unprofessional, dirty, and disorganized. After the results came back, they said I could ask any other questions and that they would be happy to help. I asked a question and was told I needed to see another specialist, but they did not offer a referral. I therefore politely asked whether they could refer me. A few days later, the nurse replied that she would arrange a referral or that I could contact my primary care doctor. She did not say who or where the referral would be to, only that she would process it or I could contact my primary care doctor. She also disabled my ability to reply, preventing me from asking any further questions. I have no idea whether she actually made the referral, who the physician is, or where the practice is located. Her response was vague and unprofessional. Why offer to help if there is no intention of following through? I am old enough to remember when doctors proactively provided referrals for areas outside their expertise instead of making patients beg. I also dislike being prevented from responding. This clinic is extremely rude and lazy. Unfortunately, I would not recommend it to anyone who values their time and money. I suppose this is routine for a Prisma office.

I have been a patient here for 12 years and never had a problem until today. Telling a patient to "go back where you came from" is completely unacceptable. My sister was only seeking help so she could have a child. She is almost a week post-op, yet no one had asked her this before. I do not understand the alleged "attitude and poor communication," but if the clinic continues operating this way, it will no longer be worth visiting. What a shame.

I had the most wonderful consultation with Dr. Green. She was lovely and genuine, and I could tell how sincerely she cared about me. Saying she took her time would be an understatement. We discussed every thought and concern I had, and she explained everything thoroughly. The front desk administrator who checked me in was also very kind and friendly, as was the financial counselor, Celeste. When I had a billing question, Celeste followed up quickly and even called my insurance company to help. Thank you all!!

I first saw Dr. Miller 13 years ago. I had experienced 3 miscarriages without finding a definite cause. My OB-GYN referred me to Dr. Miller's GHS office, and from the moment I arrived, I knew it was the right place. In short, I was frightened and skeptical. Dr. Miller's nurse at the time was wonderful and put me at ease. When my husband and I met Dr. Miller, he was amazing. Thirteen months later, our daughter was born. Three years later, we visited Dr. Miller's Spartanburg office, and 11 months afterward our first son was born. Even more surprisingly, 18 months later our second son arrived without Dr. Miller's help. Haha! Professional, caring, and most importantly, very kind.

Dr. Miller is the kind of doctor everyone should have because he listens well, knows that patients understand their own bodies, and always takes that into account. He personally replies to most messages, responds as quickly as possible, and obtains medications promptly! He stays current with the latest information that can help treat his patients. He is one of a kind!

Dr. Miller's compassionate approach truly eased my concerns and stress about my IVF journey. From the moment I expressed my worries, he listened carefully and created a sense of comfort and understanding in a tense situation. Most importantly, Dr. Miller's attentive care not only made me feel heard but also gave me hope about future treatment. Under his guidance, I look forward to beginning the IVF process, knowing I am in capable and caring hands.

Dr. Paul Miller takes time to sit down and speak with you, ask how you feel, and ask whether you have any concerns. I have not had many doctors take time to sit and talk with me as he does. He is truly wonderful, and his staff are excellent.
