Dr. James G. Donahue, United States

Dr. Donahue attended medical school in Miami, Florida, and graduated in 1989. He completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency at Indiana University in 1993 and became board-certified. Dr. Donahue completed a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the Medical College of Georgia in 1995.

Dr. Donahue has been in private practice in Indianapolis since 1995. In 2005, he earned a master's degree in clinical embryology from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. This is one of the few programs in the world offering formal embryology training from leaders in the field. Dr. Donahue believes this additional specialized training enables him to provide better care to patients undergoing IVF.

Dr. Donahue is certified by the American Board of Bioanalysis as a High-Complexity Laboratory Director (HCLD) in embryology and andrology. Only 4% of HCLDs are physicians; the rest hold doctoral degrees. Dr. Donahue's laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), and he serves as an inspector for other CAP-accredited laboratories. His HCLD background directly benefits patients.

Over the past 20 years, his practice, Family Beginnings, PC, has helped thousands of patients in central Indiana. The practice's name reflects its caring professionals. In this very busy practice, Dr. Donahue is personally involved in every aspect of patient care. In late 2002, he moved the office to a larger location on the north side with an on-site IVF laboratory, egg retrieval room, and 4 recovery beds. This was done to give more patients access to IVF who otherwise might not try it because of financial considerations. In 2008, the practice moved to its current location. The building was designed from the ground up and incorporates key IVF laboratory construction principles.

Dr. Donahue is married. He and his wife of more than 30 years, Renate, have a 28-year-old son, Christian, who graduated from Purdue University. He was conceived with fertility treatment in 1991, giving Dr. Donahue firsthand insight into his patients' experiences. He enjoys racewalking, marathons, sailing, and reading.
