The clinicians at the University of Iowa OB-GYN clinic are wonderful—professional, kind, and attentive. I feel they genuinely care. However, treatment wait times are infuriating. I had severe bleeding, and although the doctor recommended an IUD, I was told placement would take months. Knowing treatment exists but cannot be accessed when urgently needed is disappointing. Care quality is good, but access needs improvement.

I cannot say enough good things. The nurses, receptionists, technicians, and doctors are the kindest, smartest, most sincere, and thoughtful clinicians I have met. From delivering a difficult diagnosis to my first transfer, they continually impressed me. I am grateful my insurance allowed treatment at one of the nation’s top five fertility clinics. I deeply appreciate their outstanding work.

At least on paper, this clinic values informed consent. Whether you receive pregnancy testing, STI testing, or a pelvic exam, consent is required beforehand. Sometimes they do not clearly explain why or what testing involves. But if you research independently, they respect your wishes, bodily autonomy, and right to choose what is best for your body. Unlike the gynecology hospital, they treated me as capable of making informed decisions. Worth trying; I hope this helps. It was not my best gynecologic care, but not my worst.

I am pregnant with my first child, and so far this place makes me uncomfortable. The doctors are impatient, dismiss you with “mm-hmm,” and do not listen. If you want a relaxed, unhurried process, this is not the place. The midwives at University made me feel much more comfortable.

If you are struggling with mental health concerns and want help from an OB-GYN regarding hormone balance, I do not recommend Dr. Nicole Stein. She was cold and insensitive, and I was made to feel embarrassed simply for asking questions about my body. No one should leave a doctor’s office feeling helpless when the doctor could have listened to another perspective. I left in tears and do not want anyone else to feel the same way.

This clinic is wonderful! Everyone I met was warm, friendly, and passionate about their work. Every receptionist, nurse, and doctor was kind and made a potentially stressful treatment process feel easy and pleasant. Highly recommended!
