Compassionate and thoughtful describe Dr. Irene Su’s approach to patient care. She is committed to helping every patient have a safe, well-supported family-building journey. Dr. Su is fluent in English and Mandarin. She has a particular interest in fertility preservation and caring for medically complex patients.
Dr. Su graduated from Stanford University and earned her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency and reproductive endocrinology and infertility fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Before joining Reproductive Partners Fertility Center – San Diego, she was on the faculty of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Dr. Su is now a professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at the University of California, San Diego, and director of the reproductive endocrinology and infertility fellowship program. She is board-certified in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Su is a reproductive epidemiologist who leads advanced research to improve reproductive health in young women with cancer. She has published on fertility preservation, oncofertility, breast cancer, contraception, and menopause and runs an active laboratory at the University of California, San Diego. She has received an American Cancer Society Mentored Research Scholar Grant, a National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Career Development Award, and research funding from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine/Orthopedic Women’s Health. Dr. Su has also received numerous research and teaching awards. Clinical care, research, and educating the next generation of reproductive endocrinologists all support her goal of improving patient care.
Dr. Su enjoys seeking out good food, reading fiction, spending time with family, and returning home to Taiwan.
RPSD found the perfect balance: honest yet tactful and caring, doing what was medically best without overlooking the patient’s emotional needs.
