Dr. Marja Brolinson King, United States
Dr. Marja Brolinson King earned her medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where she was inspired to pursue reproductive endocrinology and infertility. She graduated from Miami University's honors program with a major in zoology and studies in chemistry and neuroscience, strengthening her passion for medicine and advocacy for women and women's health. Dr. King completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, part of the OhioHealth network, and is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology. She then completed a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in the Washington, D.C., area, providing reproductive and fertility care at the NIH and to service members and their families.
Her commitment to empowering and educating future medical students, residents, fellows, and patients has distinguished her career. During residency, Dr. King received the OB/GYN Resident Teaching Award, the Graduate Medical Education Committee Excellence in Teaching Award, Interdisciplinary Resident of the Year, the Power of One Service Excellence Award, and the Teaching Courage Award from The Ohio State University Humanism in Medicine Initiative. As a resident and fellow, she remained active in leadership, serving as co-chair of the NIH Clinical Fellows Committee and fellow representative to the Graduate Medical Education Committee. She was also nominated to represent OB/GYN residents and served on the NIH Ethics Committee.
Dr. King belongs to several professional organizations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI), and Society for Reproductive Investigation (SRI). She is adjunct faculty for an ASRM Education Committee resident course and completed the Scientists Teaching Science course at the NIH.
During her REI fellowship, Dr. King received a President's Presenter Award from the Society for Reproductive Investigation and was a semifinalist for a National Institute of Child Health and Human Development science communication award. Recognized for outstanding research, she contributed to more than 17 national and international presentations. Her research focuses on improving patient outcomes. She led clinical studies examining factors that improve outcomes in ART pregnancies. She was also an active researcher in the Macfarlan Laboratory at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, studying altered DNA-binding characteristics of PRDM9, a regulator of meiotic recombination, in men with azoospermia. Her work led to national and international presentations on oocyte and embryo cryopreservation, preimplantation genetic testing, ultrasound findings in pregnancies conceived with assisted reproductive technology, sex differences in REI, and new genetic causes of azoospermia. She is passionate about educating and empowering patients to make informed decisions about their reproductive futures.
While at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Dr. King also gave back to the city and received the Urban Health Project's Community Commitment Award. She looks forward to reengaging with Cincinnati's strong community and is proud to return home to serve patients and the community through comprehensive fertility services, education, and reproductive surgery.
