Dr. Robert Hunter founded Kentucky Reproductive Institute to provide world-class fertility care to residents of Kentucky and the surrounding region. As practice director, he is committed to ensuring that KFI patients receive an unmatched level of medical care and service in the region. His clinical approach is compassionate, open-minded, and patient-centered because he believes every path to parenthood is unique.

Dr. Hunter completed his fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of Louisville, where he also earned master's degrees in public health and business administration. Originally from Birmingham, he earned a bachelor's degree in neuroscience and behavioral biology from Emory University, his medical degree from AUC School of Medicine, and completed his OB/GYN residency at Staten Island University Hospital. He is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is an active member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association. He has published and presented research in numerous academic journals and conferences and has received several awards for excellence in clinical care, teaching, and leadership. In his free time, Dr. Hunter enjoys studying music theory, playing the Hammond organ, and spending time with his wife and two children.

My husband and I went to KFI for a second opinion, and it was undoubtedly one of the best decisions we made. Dr. Hunter, Yelena, and Bianca were wonderful. It is clear that they are passionate about their work, and I appreciated the team-based approach to our care! Dr. Hunter patiently discussed evidence-based recommendations with us and welcomed every question we had. Nicole was very thorough in helping us prepare and answering all our calls and questions. Casey and every staff member we met were very helpful and friendly. We are extremely grateful for their care.

Professionalism covers many aspects, including conduct and qualities. I was deeply hurt by my experience with this clinic's professionalism and with some of the professionals working there, who often showed a serious lack of empathy, compassion, and accountability. Although I did achieve my dream of becoming a parent, I would caution anyone considering this clinic to lower their expectations for how they will be treated along the way. Not everyone is treated equally. I remind myself that sometimes we must struggle and suffer to receive the greatest blessings. Please know that KFI contributed to my struggle and pain.

My husband and I consulted Dr. Hunter. During the consultation, he was very curt, unpleasant, and stoic. He needs to understand that couples who cannot conceive naturally may be in a vulnerable state, and the last thing they need is to face a cold, insensitive doctor. He needs to improve his bedside manner.

Yes, I deleted my first review. Dr. Hunter returned my call, and the poor communication was a human error. Because Dr. Hunter took the step of calling me, I felt it was right to update my review. The call went well, and the explanation this time was excellent. I honestly appreciate Dr. Hunter's call because not every doctor or office makes the effort to correct a situation. It meant a great deal that he did.

I cannot say enough about our experience here. The staff were extremely warm and welcoming. We felt supported from beginning to end. The process is difficult, and I sincerely believe that having people beside you who you know are truly on your side affects success. They took all the logistical stress off my shoulders so I could focus on the real reason I was there. The staff's kindness was an added benefit to their professionalism. I never doubted this team's abilities. From the front desk staff to the embryologists, they were top-tier. Dr. Hunter was outstanding. He is direct, which I appreciated, but also sensitive during difficult times. I am so glad we found this team in Louisville. We are now 37 and pregnant with our first child, and I will always be grateful to these incredible people!

I am deeply grateful to the entire KFI team for helping us make our dream a reality! Thanks to Dr. Hunter, my husband and I conceived our two precious daughters in our forties. We greatly appreciate Dr. Hunter’s honest and thoughtful approach throughout the process. His staff made us feel not only welcome but genuinely cared for, and we are very grateful. Our son is a 16-year-old cancer survivor. We were referred here because the treatment he endured for neuroblastoma put him at risk of infertility. We appreciate the services and their understanding of the situation, but we should have received this news in an office where we had time to process it. He should not have heard such devastating news in the waiting room. In my opinion, this was very unprofessional and inconsiderate.

After several miscarriages, my wife and I were referred here while trying to conceive. Soon after becoming patients, we had a positive pregnancy test, and they supported us through roughly the first ten weeks. Their helpfulness, care, and warm, attentive approach not only got us through the difficulties of early pregnancy but also helped us successfully grow a baby bump—a real win 🥁. After our final visit, they gave us a small gift bag and made it clear they would always be available if we needed help in the future. Given the nature of their work, we hope not to need them again, but knowing they will be there if needed is incredibly reassuring.

Dr. Hunter and his team made us feel like family. From beginning to end, they showed exceptional professionalism, kindness, and understanding. Every question or concern I raised was heard carefully and answered transparently. Dr. Hunter communicated directly and never sugarcoated anything, and I never doubted any plan he developed for us. We had unexplained infertility. We tried one medicated menstrual cycle, followed by one round of intrauterine insemination (IUI), and finally one round of in vitro fertilization (IVF). At every stage, I felt able to advocate for myself. I have had terrible experiences at some healthcare facilities, but at KFI I felt—and still feel—excellent. Dr. Hunter and his team are wonderful, and I will always recommend KFI. They gave us the most precious gift!

I was a little nervous about having a semen analysis, but KFI put me at ease. This is a very good place, and the receptionist made the process easy and not awkward at all. I would recommend it if you need fertility testing.

This clinic never answers the phone, much less returns calls! They always respond a day or two later with a damn email. Second, they tried to tell me my insurance would not cover testing, but when I called the insurer, they said it would. Either the billing staff do not want to do their jobs, or they are trying to collect money first rather than wait for insurance. It is ridiculous that they never answer or return calls. I am trying to receive medical care, not conduct business! Because communication with this clinic was so poor, I never even made it to an in-person visit.

From our first consultation through the positive pregnancy test, our experience at Kentucky Fertility Institute was unmatched. Everyone—from receptionists to nurses, nurse practitioners, embryologists, and doctors—treated us with patience and genuine care, seeing us as people with hopes, fears, and dreams. Before KFI, another clinic had been unsuccessful and left us discouraged. From the moment we entered KFI, its empathy, attention to detail, and individualized care restored our hope. The emotional, challenging journey was made easier because the team clearly explained every step, celebrated each milestone, and supported us through difficult days. I wanted to wait until our IVF journey ended before writing this review. I began IVF at KFI in 2021, and saying I was nervous would be an understatement. From my first visit, the team knew how to make me feel welcome. Kathy, the phlebotomist, was the first person I saw at every appointment, and she always comforted and supported me. Through the best and worst days of IVF, she made me feel at home. Once, I knew the result would be negative even before my blood draw. She quietly gave me a big hug and helped me leave through the back door so I would not have to return to the waiting room. That attention to detail meant everything. For better or worse, over our four-year IVF journey I became very familiar with the entire staff. With Dr. Hunter and his team, we underwent two egg retrievals, one placental biopsy, one polypectomy, and seven embryo transfers. There is no team I would rather have gone through all of this with. We thought the journey was over, but Paige was an angel and kept our two day-7 embryos, which some clinics would not keep. She sent them for testing, and both were euploid. We completed one final transfer, and it worked! We truly owe her a son. The nurse practitioners and nurses at this clinic are also wonderful. They were always ready to explain what would happen next, answered every question, and provided clear, easy-to-follow schedules. They always treated me with compassion, and I truly felt them celebrate the highs and share the lows with us. Finally, Dr. Hunter is an outstanding doctor who was always very supportive and helpful at follow-up visits. After our telehealth conversations, he remained available and answered any questions promptly. He is highly knowledgeable and quickly presented every possible option. My only wish is that I could continue receiving pregnancy care at KFI. They became family, and now that I no longer need the clinic, I will miss them. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, KFI. Our daughter is the light of our lives, and we cannot wait to meet our son next April. You made our family complete.

I feel incredibly fortunate to be writing this at 23 weeks pregnant. We ultimately conceived naturally, but looking back, I believe the two IUIs we had at KY Fertility laid helpful groundwork. We were preparing to begin IVF when the technician suddenly said, “Wait...you’re already pregnant...” I could not believe it. If that is not the best news to hear after fertility treatment, I do not know what is. Although the fertility journey was challenging, everyone at KY Fertility was kind, supportive, and helpful throughout. They were easy to reach, promptly returned my calls and emails, and were always warm and positive in person. I was also impressed and grateful that they provided detailed dates and task lists for every treatment step. There is so much to remember and complete on specific dates. I appreciated the team's prompt answers and the materials they provided to help track progress. I am equally grateful to Dr. Hunter, who took time to speak with us by Zoom, answer our questions, and discuss our options. Although the outlook he had to share was not very optimistic given that I am in my 40s, he presented it thoughtfully and professionally—and we ultimately overcame some obstacles! Hang in there, future mom. You are doing great :) Kentucky Fertility Center is also a trusted partner in your fertility journey.

Although infertility treatment is an emotional roller coaster, the KFI team's support has had an enormously positive effect on my physical and emotional well-being. I wanted to list everyone at Kentucky Fertility Institute (KFI) who cared for us so deeply, but I realized this review would never end. The entire team is incredibly thoughtful. They remember your name, your circumstances, and even ask about your life outside the clinic. From the first visit to the last, they are warm and welcoming. They understand your thoughts, feelings, and even your fears. Everyone who walks into KFI has their own story, and it may not have been where they initially expected to go when starting a family, but the KFI team quickly becomes an essential part of your journey. From miscarriage and emergency fertility surgery to many other treatments, the KFI team consistently maintains the highest level of professionalism. When mentioning Dr. Hunter, I also have to mention Yllena Novitsky and Bianca Weaver; and when mentioning them, I have to mention Candace Rodriguez. Of course, I cannot forget Courtney Gabbert, who manages everyone’s schedules. I sincerely appreciate every one of them and highly recommend their services. I would absolutely choose them again!

I will try to hold back my emotions and keep the tears from falling. I will forever be grateful to this clinic and its warm, dedicated staff. Thanks to them, I am now 12 weeks pregnant with my miracle baby. When I began IVF treatment, I knew very little about the process, medications, or procedures involved. KFI has perfected the entire process. They are organized and communicate clearly at every step. I always knew what was happening and never felt lost. First, I thank God for making my IVF treatment so successful and every appointment go so smoothly. Second, I want to thank everyone at KFI—Dr. Hunter; nurse practitioners Ylena and Bianca; nurses Carol, Brenna, and Jill; embryologists Paige, Candy, and Nicole; phlebotomist Kathy; and Molly and Courtney.
