About Dr. Gleicher
Norbert Gleicher, MD, FACOG, FACS, is an infertility specialist specializing in autoimmune diseases at the Center for Human Reproduction in the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City.
Dr. Gleicher grew up in Vienna, Austria, and completed his medical studies at the Medical University of Vienna. After preclinical years, he graduated and completed an internship at the Tel Aviv University Sackler School of Medicine in Israel. He then moved to New York City for a residency in obstetrics and gynecology, and a fellowship in reproductive immunology at Mount Sinai Medical Center. As chief resident, he was awarded the Dr. Solomon Silver Award in Clinical Medicine.
Upon graduation, Dr. Gleicher was appointed to the medical school faculty of Mount Sinai School of Medicine as an assistant professor in the department as Head of the Division of Reproductive Immunology.
Two years later, he moved to Chicago as Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital and Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Immunology/Microbiology at Rush Medical College. He held these positions for 10 years until his resignation when he began focusing on the Center for Human Reproduction, which he founded in 1981.
Since 1990, Dr. Gleicher has held a variety of academic professorial appointments at Chicago Medical School, New York University School of Medicine, and Yale University School of Medicine. Since 1999, he has been President, Medical Director, and chief scientist of the Center for Human Reproduction and President of the not-for-profit Foundation for Reproductive Medicine.
Dr. Gleicher has published hundreds of peer-reviewed scientific papers, abstracts, and book chapters in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Dr. Gleicher is a distinguished expert in the field of reproductive medicine and endocrinology, holding multiple editorial board memberships in leading journals. He serves on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, RBMOnline, the Asian Pacific Journal of Reproduction, Endocrine, the Journal of Reproductive Biology and Endocrinology, the Journal of Translational Medicine, Clinical and Translational Medicine, and The Journal of IVF-Worldwide. With extensive experience in both clinical practice and research, Dr. Gleicher has made significant contributions to advancing the understanding of reproductive health and endocrinology. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology.
While in Chicago, Chicago Magazine repeatedly listed him among the “Best Physicians” in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Since his return to New York City, he was repeatedly one of only a handful of reproductive endocrinologists listed by the New York Times Magazine on its “Super Doctors” list.

Highly recommended; I wish I had found them sooner. See them for a second opinion. They performed tests that two other well-known IVF clinics in the Northeast did not. If you need answers, start here.

This one star is out of respect for the nurses who draw blood and for their work. I would give everyone else 0. Everything is about money to them. The first question is: How will you pay?! But the worst part was that the doctor told me I had a 75% chance of becoming pregnant. After I spent a great deal of money at the clinic on the IVF process, someone working there called me the day before the important day, the embryo transfer, and said in the rudest possible way: “You cannot get pregnant. Do not come!” It was the worst day of my life. I was shocked and speechless. My heart and feelings were crushed. Such ignorance!
But thanks to this, I found the best doctor and the best clinic, and now I am the happiest mother in the world!

I visited many fertility clinics over five years. CHR is unquestionably the best in the field. Their expertise, Dr. Barad's compassion, organization, nurses, billing, and phlebotomists are all first-rate. I had 0 eggs fertilize elsewhere, compared with 100% fertilization at CHR. If that does not demonstrate the quality of their laboratory protocols and laboratory, I do not know what does. CHR provides thoughtful support.

I have completed multiple unsuccessful rounds of IVF. I learned about this office from a well-known fertility book. My consultation with Dr. Ballard was the best I have ever had. He was extremely compassionate, spoke to us like human beings, and genuinely tried to understand us and what we had done. He also explained everything clearly and was very knowledgeable. He was patient with my many questions and addressed my concern about a hormone that other doctors had overlooked, even when I brought it to their attention. He explained why correcting it was important and how to do so. I feel hopeful because, unlike other doctors, he did not rush us into another cycle. Instead, he wanted to address my issue first, even though I feel pressed for time. I appreciated his time; he spent nearly two hours consulting with us. I do not want to have unrealistic expectations, but I am hopeful. I hope everything goes well from here and that God is on our side.

You are just a number here. They give you DHEA without reviewing your blood tests and ruin your hormonal health. Gleicher is terrible and only wants your money. Stay away from this unethical doctor.

Unfortunately, I struggled with infertility for more than 7 years and visited 4 different clinics. CHR, Dr. Barad, Dr. Gleicher, and the entire staff were kind, compassionate, knowledgeable, and professional. The clinic is a 2.5-hour drive from us, so seeking care out of state was a major decision, but I am glad we made it. We are still trying, but I feel comfortable and confident with my treatment plan.
***Update: Thanks to CHR, I gave birth to two beautiful boys in January. We had nearly lost hope of growing our family, but after one round of IVF with Dr. Barad, I conceived twins! We will always be grateful that the entire team believed in us and did not give up on me or my body. 🙏🏻

Stay away. I never thought I would write a negative review of a doctor, but here we are. The staff and coffee machine deserve praise, but the doctors are terrible. We first spoke with Dr. Gleicher, who gave us the same message he gives most patients: my wife should take dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), and it would work. He barely reviewed her medical history. He said she was young and her case would be easy for him. My wife had previously experienced ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), but he assured her there would be no problem because he had not had an OHSS case in years. After we agreed to proceed and paid, we never saw him again because we were transferred to another doctor, Dr. B. My wife then took several medications and DHEA, developed OHSS again, and felt ill for weeks.
Shortly after egg retrieval, my wife had excessive bleeding. Because the anesthesiologist had already left for the day, they could not provide IV fluids. Apparently his golf was more important than her health.
The embryologist had no idea the sperm came from microdissection testicular sperm extraction (Micro-TESE), so she left the eggs sitting for hours while she looked for the sperm. Despite retrieving many eggs, no good embryos resulted after the eggs sat for hours, and naturally there was no pregnancy after transfer. They sent a message saying there were no good embryos but did not even call to apologize.
Dr. Gleicher invented a diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) phenotype D that even the other doctor disagreed with and stopped the DHEA. Given these doctors' claimed years of experience, it is unbelievable that they failed to ensure the embryology department knew what type of sperm it was handling.
Think carefully before coming here, because you may be deeply disappointed with the outcome. I have much more to say, but this is a public forum.

Dr Barad and his team have been super supportive and very friendly and professional at the same time. I would always recommend Center of human reproduction to anyone who wants to conceive. Let me tell you this flew all the way dallas to NY and it was worth it.

My experience with CHR Billing was extremely frustrating. They collect payment immediately, without delay. But when I requested an itemized bill, which should be standard, communication suddenly stopped.
I received an email saying it would arrive the next day, but it never did. I followed up many times with no response, which is highly unprofessional. It feels as though they forget you once they receive payment.
This behavior is unacceptable, especially when people need clear documentation for insurance or financial records. If you value transparency and basic customer service, look elsewhere.

Not trustworthy. This company is dishonest and will find ways to take your money. IVF is already expensive, but CHR suddenly demanded nearly $2000 in "sperm storage" fees two years after we ended our relationship.
While working with them, I found their customer service poor and their medical care mediocre, but thought at least our business was finished. After two years of silence, I suddenly received an email marked "Urgent!!" and a suspicious call demanding nearly $2000. I assumed it was a scam, but it appears to have come from this predatory company. Do yourself a favor and stay away. Once you deal with them, they will keep finding ways to take your money, even years later.

Dr. Ballard is wonderful. He is approachable, took time to know us, and showed genuine interest in our experience. He was kind, compassionate, honest, and gentle. Although I did not achieve a pregnancy at the Center for Human Reproduction (CHR), I still highly recommend them. My case may have been complicated, and CHR gave me tremendous encouragement when I needed hope most.
First, everyone there was wonderful. They were friendly, warm, compassionate, and extremely supportive. Even the front desk staff greeted us by name almost every day, which mattered greatly during such an emotional time. Maria and Sonia were especially outstanding, and I am also very grateful to Dr. Gleicher. He was both practical and considerate, and I completely trusted his professional judgment and experience.
The only reason we did not continue with CHR was that we are from Texas. After two months of IVF cycles in New York, we decided to choose a clinic closer to home.
Now that I have experienced another clinic firsthand, I can honestly say that CHR's overall experience is unmatched. Ultrasounds, blood tests, communication, organization, and overall care were all efficient and personalized.
As an out-of-town patient, I also loved their Upper East Side location. After every visit, we would walk in Central Park. It became part of our routine and made a difficult experience somewhat easier.
I will always be grateful for the care, kindness, and hope CHR gave us.
