Clinical Interests
As a pioneer in reproductive immunology, Dr. Kwak-Kim has devoted more than 25 years of her career to reproductive immunology research and continues this work. Her research focuses on understanding the immune system’s role in pregnancy and pregnancy loss and developing treatment plans to help women maintain successful pregnancies.
What is reproductive medicine and immunology?
Reproductive medicine and immunology helps patients who have experienced recurrent pregnancy loss, unexplained infertility, repeated failed in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer, unexplained second- or third-trimester pregnancy loss, or pregnancy with a history of or active autoimmune and/or alloimmune disease. Dr. Kwak-Kim and her team of nurse practitioners, registered nurses, medical assistants, and sonographers work with patients to identify causes of pregnancy loss and help them achieve a successful pregnancy.
Reproductive Medicine and Immunology was established at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in 1987. For 25 years, the program has provided evaluation and treatment to patients from across the country and around the world.
While patients are trying to conceive, Dr. Kwak-Kim and her staff coordinate care with a reproductive endocrinologist or primary gynecologist. After pregnancy is achieved, care continues in coordination with an obstetrician or maternal-fetal medicine specialist.
Specialty: Reproductive Medicine and Immunology
Services: Recurrent pregnancy loss, recurrent implantation failure, unexplained infertility, poor ovarian response, premature ovarian failure, and care for women with rheumatic, alloimmune, and autoimmune diseases.
