Dr. Bakkensen is originally from Buffalo, New York. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biology and Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she graduated with Highest Distinction. Upon graduation, she spent two years teaching high school biology in Chicago through Teach for America before earning her medical degree at Weill Cornell Medical College and completing her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital, where she earned multiple teaching awards. She then returned to Chicago to complete her fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Northwestern University.
