Dr. Matthew G. Retzloff, United States


Dr. Matthew G. Retzloff joined the Fertility Center of San Antonio in 2014. A native of San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Retzloff earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the United States Air Force Academy in 1990 and a medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, in 1994. He completed his U.S. Air Force residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Wilford Hall Medical Center and Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, in 1998. Dr. Retzloff studied at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, Massachusetts, where he completed a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology in 2003. He subsequently directed the IVF programs at Wilford Hall and Brooke Army Medical Center. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2014 after nearly 21 years of service to the country.

Dr. Retzloff is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and is board-certified in reproductive endocrinology and infertility and in obstetrics and gynecology. He is a leader in IVF and represents U.S. IVF physicians on the SART (Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology) Executive Council. He has authored and presented numerous studies related to IVF and ICSI at national professional society meetings. His special interests include infertility, fibroids, fibroid-related surgery, advanced surgical laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, and in vitro fertilization.

His publications can be found in leading journals including Fertility and Sterility, The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Obstetrics and Gynecology.

    Update: We now have a beautiful daughter! 🩷 Our fertility journey was not easy. Before finding Fertility Center of San Antonio, we visited two other clinics in Texas, one in Dallas and one in Lubbock, and the difference in our experience was remarkable. From our first contact, the FCSA team made us feel supported and cared for. Their communication was always prompt and clear, which meant so much during such a heartbreaking time. The clinic is beautiful—modern, clean, and welcoming—and the doctors and nurses are highly skilled and exceptionally kind. They never made us feel like just another patient. They genuinely cared about our fertility journey and celebrated every step with us. We are thrilled to say that our first transfer at FCSA resulted in a successful pregnancy! This clinic gave us hope when we needed it most, and we are deeply grateful.     My husband and I began exploring IVF options with another provider in December 2023, but poor communication, vague information, unexpected billing issues, and multiple cancellations made the experience frustrating. We decided to try Fertility Center of San Antonio and wish we had contacted them sooner. From the moment we scheduled our consultation, the staff and Dr. Neal were incredibly supportive. They provided many details our previous clinic had failed to give us, making us better informed and more confident in our decisions.     I truly believe FCSA's reproductive medicine team is the best in Texas, if not the country. They are simply incredible. After one round of IVF, I had 6 healthy embryos, and my first transfer gave me my precious son, who is now 2.5 years old. When we moved away from Texas, we took our remaining 5 embryos with us. After unsuccessful treatment at several clinics in our new state, we now have only 2 embryos left. This speaks volumes about the extraordinary expertise and meticulous care I received at FCSA. If I have only one child in my lifetime, I have Dr. Neal and Dr. Retzloff to thank. I am in tears writing this because I sincerely hope they know how many lives they have touched. Thank you!!!

    We would like to express our gratitude to Fertility Center of San Antonio for giving us a wonderful experience and helping us conceive a child to complete our family. From the beginning, they showed genuine care. Office staff Susie, Sylvia, and Evelyn were exceptionally attentive, and the nursing staff were professional and thoughtful. Dr. Adams and Dr. Relzloff were also wonderful. They created a comfortable environment that made the challenging process of trying to conceive easier. We ultimately became pregnant and are now at 13 weeks. God led us to Fertility Center of San Antonio, and we remain grateful for everything they did to help make our dream a reality.

    I was not the one asking about IVF; I went in with my daughter because she was nervous. As soon as we entered, a woman greeted us with a warm smile. I believe her name was Alyssa. When we asked about an appointment, she directed us to Susie and again smiled and kindly asked, ‘How may I help you?’ My daughter had many questions, and Susie was very patient and answered all of them. If she was unsure, she asked Evelyn, who would also come over to answer. I know this will be a very expensive journey, but Sylvia explained several options that could help us manage it. I am very grateful that everyone was so kind to us. I believe my daughter will feel comfortable, and perhaps the decisions will be easier. Thank you for having such a wonderful team.

    My husband and I had the best experience at Fertility Center of San Antonio! after both going through infertility issues and learning we’d have to go through the IVF process, I 100% felt like I was in the best hands at this facility. The doctors, nursing staff and front desk staff were all amazing, so kind and comforting, and helped us feel at home when going through one of the scariest journeys we’ve ever been through. I am happy to say that our first round of IVF was successful and we are expecting our first little bundle of joy in April! All thanks to God and everyone at FCSA!

    Give the clinic 5 stars because overall I think they care about their patients. IVF was physically, emotionally, and financially exhausting, but I would probably do it all again if our chances were better. IVF did not go as we hoped. We only made 1 embryo and sadly that baby did not survive. The only aspect of the clinic that I would give 1 star is the after care. When they called me to tell me the heartbreaking negative results of the pregnancy test over the phone I was obviously devastated. No follow-up was offered. No support or resources were offered. I was genuinely surprised that a fertility clinic of this size doesn’t offer grief support recourses such as support groups in the community or a list of recommended counselors. 9 months later and the grief still comes in waves. If that embryo had survived, its due date would’ve been last week.

    Choosing the right IVF clinic is a crucial decision, and we are so glad we chose Dr. Retzloff and Dr. Neal. We evaluated about five clinics before deciding, and they stood out for their clear, honest information—including an open discussion of the pros and cons—which gave us confidence about treatment.     We wish we had come here sooner. Dr. Neal and Dr. Reitzloff are truly wonderful. We felt comfortable and were never dismissed or treated like just a number. They worked with us to develop a treatment plan and offered their recommendations. The clinic staff were also excellent and greeted us by name as soon as we entered. The nurses, the phlebotomist, and even the ultrasound technician were all wonderful. We never imagined we would reach this point. After our September 25 transfer, we had a positive pregnancy test, and we will soon welcome our baby boy, due in June. If we decide to have another child, we will definitely return. I will continue recommending this fertility center to anyone considering IVF.

    Unfortunately, my first IVF procedure ended in an ectopic pregnancy, and Dr. Retzloff was one of the doctors who assisted Dr. Neel with my surgery. He was very kind and answered all my questions. He is one of the best doctors.

    Dr. Retzloff and the entire Fertility Center team in San Antonio are wonderful! I thank them for giving us two miracle babies during our reproductive endocrinology care from 2016–2020! He, Dr. Neal, Dr. Martin, Dr. Adams, and the talented nurses and staff never gave up on us despite our difficult diagnosis of dual-factor infertility. Our difficult case probably lowered their overall SART rating and required multiple IUI and IVF cycles before we finally succeeded. He and the team are knowledgeable and compassionate! Dr. Retzloff always answered every question, even when I brought 4 pages of questions or submitted them through the portal. If I wanted to try something new, he would adjust my treatment and educate me about whether a treatment, supplement, or random silly 'why not try this' idea I brought him might or might not help my DOR and my husband's male-factor infertility. Because of him and their expert team, I can hold my children today and share our success story on infertility podcasts and in support groups. I will always be grateful to him and the team.     Dr. Retzloff and his team are wonderful! I used to think I could not have children, and now I have three healthy, adorable children. Fertility treatment can be very stressful, but Dr. Retzloff and his team were extremely helpful and attentive throughout treatment. I love this team!
