Dr. Alexa Medica is an accomplished reproductive medicine specialist dedicated to providing holistic care for patients' minds, bodies, and spirits. Having experienced infertility herself, she understands the challenges and range of emotions involved. Her passion for people and love of family, combined with her commitment to personalized care, make her a valued resource for patients.
Dr. Medica earned her medical degree from the renowned David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She then completed an OB/GYN residency at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), gaining extensive knowledge and practical experience. Under the guidance of renowned specialist Dr. Irene Su, she further specialized in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) through UCSD's fellowship program.
Throughout her career, Dr. Medica has contributed to advances in reproductive medicine through research and publication. Her work has appeared in leading scientific journals, including PLoS One, Psychoneuroendocrinology, and Fertility and Sterility. Her research has addressed several aspects of reproductive health, including the effects of genetic polymorphisms on gastrointestinal symptoms and brain changes in irritable bowel syndrome; proteomic changes and molecular signatures in poor ovarian responders to IVF; and patterns of reproductive aging among adolescent and young adult cancer survivors.
Dr. Medica has also presented her findings at numerous national conferences, including the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, where her research posters and oral presentations were recognized. She is an active member of professional and scientific organizations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
Dr. Medica's commitment to education is evident in her involvement in a variety of teaching activities. At UCLA, she served as a small-group leader for medical students in genetics courses. At UCSD, she presented on topics including the uterine microbiome, age-appropriate research, human genome editing, obstetrics, and pelvic floor disorders.
Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. Medica is committed to giving back to her community. Every Sunday, she and her husband oversee children's gatherings at their church, supporting both volunteers and children. Together, they also lead a family-centered Bible study dedicated to bringing joy and flourishing to families in their community. She has previously volunteered with organizations including an Alzheimer's activity center, Orangewood Children's Home, and The Salvation Army.
