“A friend recommended Hanabusa to me a few years ago after she had a baby girl. We finally decided to address our problem seriously and begin treatment. At our appointment, the doctor patiently explained all the procedures and information we needed to understand. The staff are friendly and care about you. I trust their expertise and service. Good luck to all of us!” View More

This clinic lacks experience and staff and is very misleading. A nurse prepared the wrong medication; fortunately, I noticed early. They insist on anesthesia for egg retrieval and retrieve every egg whether it meets criteria or not, because fees depend on the number of eggs. The laboratory quality is extremely poor. A friend runs a PGS testing lab, so I wanted him to test my embryos, but the Hungarian laboratory director insisted that we pay a small local lab instead, possibly for financial reasons. The result for a day-6 blastocyst was 'non read.' Expert friends said the lab's technique was inadequate and DNA amplification had failed. We spent $10,000 and did not even receive a diagnosis. Chinese patients, buyer beware. Hanabusa is deceptive; do not be fooled.

I do not usually leave reviews, but my husband and I felt compelled to share our story because this place changed our lives and may help others. After several failed IVF attempts at another clinic, we went to Dr. Zhang and his team, and our experience could not have been better. Dr. Zhang was attentive and guided us through every step. He was honest and direct about our chances, and we felt heard and cared for. We are now expecting our first child at the end of this year. We will always be grateful to Dr. Zhang and his team. Words cannot adequately thank them. Thank you, Dr. Zhang and Hanabusa, for giving us the greatest gift!

From the beginning, our doctor had a defeatist attitude. At my first ultrasound, she said she was 'disappointed by what she saw.' IVF is already challenging, and a negative attitude from the outset helps no one trying to create life. As a mental health clinician, I understand the importance of mindset and of what you say to patients. Our nurse Andrea was awful: impatient and visibly frustrated whenever we had more questions. In the first round, we received an in-person medication demonstration, video links, and written instructions, which were very helpful. For the second round, which added new medication, we received only a broken video link and written instructions. We wanted at least a visual demonstration because the medications are expensive and we wanted to use them correctly. When we sought more support, we received only attitude. We then made a medication error and contacted the clinic, worried about the dose. The front desk listened patiently and understood our concern. When Andrea returned the call, I asked whether the front desk had explained the situation so I would not need to repeat it. She replied, 'No, but I can hang up, talk to the front desk, and call you back if you want!' Her condescending attitude added stress after our medication error. All our other nurses were wonderful. We explained the situation to office manager Karen and asked to change nurses because we were uncomfortable continuing with Andrea. She refused, made excuses that 'this is just Andrea's personality,' and never apologized. They then charged us for an unused 'calcium bath' intended for our second retrieval, which we canceled because only one follicle was mature. Karen listened somewhat but tried to sway us, saying, 'You know it only takes one; that could be the one!' We requested more monitoring and met Dr. Zhang, who was wonderful. He agreed our concern and reluctance to continue that round were reasonable and offered three options: 1) timed intercourse, 2) IUI, or 3) IVF. We were told to notify them after I ovulated and we decided. The next week, Effie billed us for the unused calcium bath. I asked her to remove it; on Monday she said she would consult her supervisor and reply. On Friday, when I ovulated, we contacted the clinic through the portal about next steps. Instead of an answer about our pregnancy plan, Effie wrote, 'I will suspend services until the balance is resolved.' Was she holding our plan hostage over $300-400 while we were still awaiting her supervisor's response? By then we had spent $13,000-15,000 and always paid balances within a week or week and a half. I also overheard another patient with a balance above $2,000 say she would pay next time. We were harassed over $300-400 for something unused while others were allowed to pay later. Where is the consistency or professionalism? The business could easily have written this off. We were treated poorly and expected more. After reading all the positive reviews, we were deeply disappointed by our experience. We left and never received a response or apology.

We just had our first embryo transfer at Hanabusa and are awaiting the result, but I am grateful that I chose Hanabusa for the start of my fertility journey. I felt comfortable there and with the staff. They stayed on top of my blood work and examinations, and I felt heard. Seeing what modern science can do was amazing. It is an experience I will never forget, and I am glad I chose this place.

Hanabusa was outstanding as my partner and I went through IVF. The staff were kind and caring, making us feel like a priority at every visit. Communication was prompt, and scheduling was easy and flexible. IVF certainly has highs and lows, but the team showed compassion and empathy throughout, making us feel supported. I am very grateful to the Hanabusa team.

We have worked with Hanabusa for three years. Our journey has brought many challenges, but we are fortunate to have Dr. Zhang. He is highly knowledgeable and familiar with every possible study. We previously had poor experiences at other clinics. Before medication or treatment, Dr. Zhang always reviews our laboratory results and history before proceeding with the current plan. He continually brings new ideas and technology. The staff are friendly, especially our nurse Heizl, who keeps everything updated and answers our emails. Our story has not been easy, but we trust Dr. Zhang and the entire team to achieve success.

My journey to parenthood was an emotional whirlwind, but the outstanding Hanabusa Clinic team and incredible Dr. Leblanc made it brighter. Walking into Hanabusa Clinic for the first time was nerve-racking. After repeated failed attempts and shattered hopes, I was close to giving up. From the moment I met Dr. Leblanc, a small spark of hope returned. Dr. Leblanc is compassionate and knowledgeable and immediately put me at ease. She cared about more than the medical issues; she saw a person, my dreams, and my longing for a family. The clinic was a safe haven filled with friendly, understanding staff who felt more like friends than healthcare providers. They stood by me through every high and low with unwavering support. My journey was far from smooth, but Dr. Leblanc and Hanabusa Clinic never gave up. They explored every option, tailored treatment to my needs, and kept me grounded through fertility treatment's emotional roller coaster. A great doctor is an expert in both medicine and empathy. Dr. Leblanc embodies this, balancing fertility science with an understanding of our emotional struggles. Now, holding my baby, I look back with immense gratitude to Hanabusa Clinic and Dr. Leblanc. They made my dream real and made me a mother. If you are on a similar journey, I sincerely recommend Hanabusa Clinic and Dr. Leblanc. They are not just fertility specialists but dream weavers who make the impossible possible. They gave me the greatest gift, the joy of motherhood, and I will always be grateful. My experience with Hanabusa Clinic and Dr. Leblanc was more than medical care. It meant finding a compassionate team that believed in hope. They show how care, compassion, and expertise can change lives on the difficult road to parenthood.

Dr. Leblanc is wonderful—very patient, willing to answer every question, and highly knowledgeable. Some doctors become defensive when you ask why they are making a recommendation, but Dr. Leblanc is the opposite. She is very kind and willing to discuss everything until I understand what is happening. Because I am in the early stages of primary ovarian insufficiency, I completed 3 egg retrievals with them to preserve embryos. I am very satisfied with my results, including a cycle in which I produced only one egg and it developed into a euploid embryo. Overall, flying in from out of state worked well. Remote blood tests and scans were definitely much more expensive—my local clinic charges more for monitoring-only patients, and you also pay Hanabusa to review the bloodwork, so I estimate each monitoring visit cost about 3 times as much. It was also a little inconvenient to check each day that the results had actually been sent, but it was 100% worthwhile because I am very confident we received the best care. I highly recommend Hanabusa to anyone with DOR/POI, even if you are outside California.

After painful experiences and two failed transfers at another clinic in the area, I switched to Dr. Chang and Hanabusa IVF. Compared with the other clinic, the difference was night and day. First, my consultation with Dr. Chang was extremely thorough. I could tell he genuinely cared and had read my medical records. He seemed truly invested in our success. He even mentioned alternative ways to become pregnant that we had not considered, although other doctors had told us only IVF would work. He also created a genuinely customized plan that was much less stressful than my previous protocol and recommended additional testing only when he truly believed it would affect my case. I never waited more than 5 minutes for an appointment or blood draw, which was such a relief! I am still early in pregnancy and did not want to “jinx it,” but I could not wait to write this review. I am now 14 weeks pregnant after my first transfer with Dr. Chang!! If finances make you hesitant, I truly understand, but I wish we had worked with this clinic from the beginning. My sincere thanks to Hanabusa and Dr. Chang.

I contacted Hanabusa IVF because of its positive reviews and expertise in low-AMH cases. I live in southern Washington and clearly stated during the consultation that I would occasionally need remote-monitoring support, planning to travel to San Diego only for egg retrieval. My initial consultation with Dr. LeBlanc was positive, and I felt hopeful. However, everything went downhill afterward. Once the nurses took over, communication was poor and often rude. We were told that after the consultation, nurses would handle all further communication and we could not contact the doctor directly, which seemed unreasonable given the cost of over $20,000. They also claimed they would help arrange ultrasound appointments for outside monitoring, but no one followed up. We had to try arranging these services ourselves, which proved difficult because many imaging centers and IVF clinics are not set up for this type of remote coordination. Despite their assurances, we received no support with this. Guidance about ordering medication was also lacking. We were told to purchase specific drugs but received no clear instructions on how to obtain them. The deal-breakers at Hanabusa IVF were: • No direct access to the doctor after the initial consultation • Unhelpful and often inadequate responses from nurses • Failure to help arrange outside monitoring despite initial assurances • Lack of clarity about same-day blood testing, causing confusion about STAT orders • Significantly higher costs than other clinics After further research, I realized Hanabusa IVF offered no unique service or benefit that justified its high cost. We ultimately completed our IVF journey successfully elsewhere for less than half the price. I encourage others to explore clinics offering more support and better value.

I cannot say enough good things about the Hanabusa team! I came here for one cycle of egg donation/egg freezing, and everyone was friendly, kind, professional, and compassionate. They answered all my questions without making me feel embarrassed, including my fear of anesthesia, tailored the protocol to my body, and did an outstanding job coordinating my care across the country. After unpleasant experiences at two large clinics, I felt thoroughly cared for and safe throughout the process. I cannot express how grateful I am!

Results aside—and I succeeded after failures at other fertility clinics—Dr. Zhang is my favorite physician I have ever worked with in any medical setting. His diagnostic and treatment-planning abilities are outstanding. I recommend him to anyone beginning or continuing a fertility journey. I wish there were a Dr. Zhang for my back and ankle.

I had always heard wonderful things about Hanabusa, but because of my insurance, I went to another clinic in town and had poor results. On a whim, I called Dr. Leblanc for a consultation. Within minutes, I found her both knowledgeable and approachable. I work in healthcare myself, and the way she spoke with me was direct, informed, and kind, exactly what I needed from a healthcare provider. During that conversation, she offered new ideas and ultimately identified the root cause of my problem at the time. Fast-forward to our first transfer at Hanabusa, which was very successful. After years of loss and hardship, Dr. Leblanc helped us become pregnant on the first attempt. We truly feel that our success was also due to the clinic. Everyone, from the front desk and phlebotomy staff to the nurses, was kind, professional, and caring. We would return without hesitation for a second child. Hanabusa and Dr. Leblanc truly are the best choice! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts 💕

Infertility is difficult, but having a supportive team made my treatment journey smoother. Dr. Leblanc was my primary doctor, and I had the opportunity to see both her and Dr. Chang because they shared procedure times. Both physicians were highly knowledgeable and compassionate. I am very grateful that Dr. Leblanc took time to listen to me and supported my choice when the research was inconclusive. With her support, our first embryo transfer succeeded, even though another clinic might have forced me to cancel and wait for the next cycle. She remained optimistic and practical, an approach I appreciated. The team was also very friendly and took time to get to know you, which matters because you are there frequently if all your monitoring is done at the clinic. Instructions were sent promptly, usually by 3:30 p.m., making life easier and leaving enough time to collect medication if you are local. I highly recommend this clinic and team because they helped our family through one of our hardest periods and eased some of the burden.

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Chang and the Hanabusa IVF team for giving us our miracle daughter. I am 43, and after two failed egg retrievals at another clinic, we chose Hanabusa IVF because it specializes in women over 40. It was the best decision we made. The staff were friendly and organized, and the patient portal made it easy to track medications, instructions, and bills. The clinic felt comfortable and welcoming, while other clinics made me feel like a science experiment. Dr. Chang was thoughtful and knowledgeable, and his genuine dedication to helping you succeed was clear. I appreciated the personalized plan he created for my very complex case. We obtained higher-quality embryos with less medication, and it worked. Dr. Chang and his team supported us throughout, and I will always be grateful for our miracle baby. No wonder he is renowned worldwide. I am fortunate to have him in San Diego. 5/5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

【A warning to anyone considering Hanabusa】 My experience at Hanabusa was terrible. From beginning to end, its standard of care and communication fell far below any reasonable expectation. This morning I had an ultrasound and blood work, both performed by a nurse and technician. Apart from the initial video consultation, I have never met Dr. Chang. No one explained the treatment plan; they only said Dr. Chang would review the results later. At around 4 p.m., I finally received a patient-portal message outlining four complicated ‘options’ for the next step. Two required urgent medication, including a trigger injection. Yet no one called to say I had less than an hour to collect it before the pharmacy closed. The message came at 4 p.m., and their designated pharmacy closed at 5 p.m. Even if I had seen it immediately—which I could not because I was working—the pharmacy could not possibly have filled it in time. Worse, no nurse called to explain how to administer the trigger injection. One ‘plan’ from the doctor was essentially, ‘Well, we can try again next cycle.’ This was deeply disrespectful. IVF is not only expensive but emotionally exhausting. Losing an entire cycle because the clinic lacks basic communication is unacceptable. Remember that this clinic does not accept insurance. It is cash-only, and every visit costs $500 out of pocket. For that price, I certainly did not receive the care and respect I deserved. Hanabusa operates as though patients have nothing to do but monitor the portal all day, ready to drop everything to collect medication, and already know how to manage complex treatment without guidance. This is not patient-centered care. It is careless, indifferent, and disrespectful of patients' time, energy, and emotional well-being. Think carefully before coming here. I am sharing this to warn others so they can avoid the same heartbreak and frustration.

I had an excellent experience here. The doctors and nurses were professional, attentive, and patient. They explained everything clearly and made me feel at ease throughout the process. The team was welcoming, thoughtful, and dedicated. I am very grateful for their support and highly recommend this clinic.

I was dissatisfied with my previous IVF doctor, so I decided to try Bloom Clinic, and I am very glad I did. Dr. LeBlanc, the nurses, front desk, and all the staff made me feel at home. Communication was excellent, instructions were clear, and most importantly, they gave me a son. I will always be grateful to the Bloom Clinic team.

The new patient coordinator, Diana, is terrible and completely cold and uncaring.

If you want to give precious embryos their best chance, choose carefully. Hanabusa's definition of “standard procedure” differs from what intended parents may expect. This may not affect every patient's outcome, but when it affects one patient, the loss is absolute and the pain lasts a lifetime. We battled infertility for nine years and completed nine egg retrievals at clinics in the U.S. and abroad because of work relocations. After immense pain and expense, we had only two PGT-normal embryos. A failed transfer in 2022 cost us our first precious embryo. Our final embryo-transfer cycle began at Hanabusa in March 2025. Transfer was scheduled for 10:30 a.m., exactly 132 hours after the first progesterone injection and within the safe window for most women. Because travel was already costly, we skipped ERA testing to save money, which we now deeply regret. After injections began, the clinic changed the time twice, delaying it by 1 hour 45 minutes because egg retrievals took priority. I begged them to keep the original time, but the nurse rudely interrupted me. My only alternative was to cancel the cycle at my own expense, costing tens of thousands of dollars—which I ultimately lost after the failed transfer. On transfer day, they were another 30 minutes late—a total delay of 2 hours 15 minutes within a window of only three hours. A post-transfer ERA test confirmed that their changes pushed us beyond the safe range. Now our last embryo is gone. Because of my age, we no longer have a chance to have our own child. My husband and I are heartbroken, and depression has made us question everything, even our marriage. We understand IVF is not guaranteed. Had Hanabusa followed the plan and the transfer still failed, we would not blame them. But this was not fate; it was an error caused by overbooking in pursuit of egg-donor profits. Hanabusa denies wrongdoing and says everything was done correctly. How can ignoring patient concerns and overbooking be “correct”? They faced no consequences and could charge me tens of thousands more for another procedure, while we are left wondering what might have happened had profit not come first.

Words cannot express my gratitude to Hanabusa IVF. My experience was excellent from start to finish, which I especially appreciate given how stressful IVF is. I began IVF at 39 with an AMH of only 0.5. I had undergone tubal ligation in my twenties because I believed I never wanted children, and I had never been pregnant or tried to conceive. After changing my mind, I consulted a Los Angeles clinic about tubal reversal. They agreed and I spent weeks arranging surgery, only to be told they would not proceed because they thought it would fail. I chose IVF and was told my low AMH required mini-IVF. Knowing nothing about IVF, I asked how conventional and mini-IVF differed and was told, “It costs less because the success rate is lower.” After losing nearly two months there, I sought a clinic closer to my home in San Diego County. That is when I found Hanabusa. Before my consultation I was devastated and believed my husband and I would never have a child. After consulting Dr. LeBlanc, I felt genuine hope for the first time. She explained exactly what mini-IVF was and how it worked. She was realistic yet kind and compassionate, making me feel there was still hope when I desperately needed it. I remained anxious throughout treatment because I had not realized how long the process would take or how critical timing was. Whenever I panicked, Dr. LeBlanc reassured me and encouraged patience. When conditions were not ideal, she said she was not comfortable proceeding and advised waiting. She was always right. She and my nurse, Kayla, patiently answered my many questions and made me feel genuinely cared for. Kayla sent detailed instructions with encouraging notes and seemed sincerely eager to share good news. I will never forget her calls telling me that my only retrieval produced two euploid embryos from five eggs, and later that the transfer worked and my blood test confirmed pregnancy. I am now five months pregnant and overjoyed. Everyone I met at Hanabusa was kind and welcoming, and I never had a negative experience. I do not believe I could have received this level of care elsewhere, especially after my experience at the previous clinic. I could not afford multiple cycles, so I truly believe IVF would not have worked for me without Dr. LeBlanc's skill and patience.

I live in Seattle and had been to three clinics before Hanabusa. I wish I had contacted them sooner because the difference in care is remarkable. Outside monitoring can be challenging, but everyone at Hanabusa made the process easy and supportive, far better than my experiences elsewhere. I felt cared for from the beginning. When I first contacted the clinic, I had many questions. Diana patiently answered every one, unlike at my previous clinics, where I often felt ignored or dismissed. The rest of the Hanabusa team was equally welcoming and responsive. Diana and Macie were wonderful, and my nurse Suzy was very supportive. I also spoke with Kayla and Andrea, and every interaction reinforced how genuinely the Hanabusa team cares. I completed three egg retrievals through Hanabusa. Although fewer eggs were retrieved than at my previous clinics, this was the first time all of them developed to the blastocyst stage. We chose not to perform preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) and transferred the highest-quality embryo. I am now 13 weeks pregnant. Initially, I tried to schedule with Dr. Chang, but he was fully booked. After more research, I found Dr. LeBlanc, who was excellent. Everything worked out well because I ultimately had the opportunity to work with both physicians—Dr. Chang even personally performed two of my retrievals. Both doctors were excellent, and I always felt heard and respected. If you are unsure about changing clinics, consider this your sign. It is difficult to find a clinic that truly values you, does not treat you like a number, and responds thoughtfully. At my previous clinics, I was often left waiting or dismissed. At Hanabusa, someone always followed up. For outside monitoring, I found a local clinic that accepted Hanabusa’s orders, so I only needed to fly to San Diego for retrievals and transfer. Thank you to everyone at Hanabusa. You made this stressful, emotional journey feel safe and supportive and genuinely listened to me. I am very glad I made this decision.

I should have trusted my instincts from the beginning. My first interaction with Diana made me very uncomfortable because she was rude and arrogant. I initially chose this clinic because of her, and I should have followed my instincts. That alone should have been enough for me to stop the process. Unfortunately, I continued, which I deeply regret. I had more than one follicle, but only one egg was retrieved, and it was overmature. The other two follicles could not be retrieved at all. If one egg was already too large or overmature and the others could not be retrieved, I do not understand why I was allowed to proceed with retrieval. The process left me emotionally, physically, and financially exhausted. Patients deserve honesty and transparency. I feel completely misled and deeply disappointed. The clinic markets itself well, but my experience did not match the advertising. Communication was unclear, expectations were poorly managed, and the outcome was extremely upsetting. If you are traveling from outside San Diego, I strongly recommend reconsidering. For me, this clinic was not worth the time, money, or effort. Please feel free to contact me if you would like more details.

Words cannot express my gratitude to Hanabusa IVF and for the attentive care I received there. A previous doctor told me that my egg quality was poor and that I might need to consider donor eggs or adoption. My partner and I were devastated, but we decided to seek a second opinion from Dr. Le Blanc. Dr. Le Blanc was my primary physician, and Dr. Chang also performed some of my procedures. Both doctors were thorough, considerate, and deeply committed to my care. Dr. Le Blanc suggested several ways to improve our chances of success. Thanks to their expertise and the outstanding team at Hanabusa IVF, I am now the proud mother of a beautiful, healthy, strong baby girl. We truly could not have built our family without Hanabusa IVF. We are incredibly grateful.

I had a wonderful experience with Dr. Chang and his team at Hanabusa IVF. They performed my frozen embryo transfer, which resulted in the birth of my baby boy! Dr. Chang was very attentive and selected the most appropriate protocol for my specific circumstances, greatly improving the transfer's chance of success. I am very grateful. This experience was far better than my transfers elsewhere, and I have already recommended him to others.

After nearly a year of IVF treatment, I can confidently share my experience. I did extensive research because this was my first time going through the process, and I wanted to find a clinic that would guide us along this unfamiliar path. Their website and my conversations with them suggested that, as a smaller clinic, they provided personalized care for both physical and emotional needs. We therefore chose them over larger, better-known clinics. Everything went smoothly at first. Communication was good, and they answered all my questions. Bills were issued within minutes after each service, and they were certainly efficient throughout treatment. I saw the doctor only twice during the entire process, including on the day of the procedure. I was surprised, but I trusted their process. However, when we received the egg retrieval results, there was no explanation or interpretation beyond a generic chart showing embryo development and grading. We had to interpret everything ourselves. They then rushed us to pay the very high cost of genetic testing for several embryos, so we selected only the testing we thought was best. After the retrieval and payment for genetic testing, the clinic effectively disappeared. I had to keep asking, “What happens next?” We chose them for their expertise and expected guidance through the entire process. Instead, we never saw the doctor again, and no one discussed the results or next steps with us. By the end, we were extremely frustrated and disappointed. They offered no guidance despite our many questions. The last time I contacted them, they simply said, “If you have any questions, please schedule an appointment with the doctor.” We had to schedule a paid appointment just to review results we had already paid for? It felt very greedy. Ultimately, we gave up. This journey is frightening and uncertain, and patients rely on professionals to guide them through it and help plan the next steps. After spending tens of thousands of dollars in the current economy, you would expect them to care and make sure patients feel reassured. Their claimed savings were not worth it. If a friend asked me to recommend an IVF clinic, unfortunately, I would not recommend this one.

Dr. Zhang and his entire team are outstanding. His rigorous analysis helped him understand why our previous attempts failed and develop an extremely personalized, thoughtful protocol. He was always honest with us, and we even canceled several cycles to ensure retrieval occurred at the optimal time. I highly recommend Hanabusa Clinic and Dr. Zhang—I never felt like a patient being rushed through, unlike with many other doctors. Highly recommended!

Throughout the fertility evaluation, the clinic had many problems with communication, coordination, and the overall patient experience. Although some staff and outside providers were excellent, the clinic's overall service felt disorganized and inconsistent. Important procedural information was repeatedly omitted or communicated too late, including preparation requirements for hysterosalpingography (HSG), causing an unnecessary one-month delay. Testing processes were also inconsistent, and prior imaging/medical history did not appear to be reviewed before appointments. The most concerning experience occurred during an attempted saline infusion sonogram (SIS), when several attempts failed. Although I clearly said I was willing to continue, the doctor repeatedly implied that I was uncomfortable or did not want to proceed. The appointment was then paused, and I later learned that the doctor returned to the operating room before the problem was resolved or adequately discussed. We ultimately left without further communication from the doctor, guidance on next steps, or rescheduling. There was no follow-up afterward about the incomplete procedure. Overall, I felt the clinic did not prioritize patient concerns or continuity of care. Dr. LeBlanc was distant and lacked bedside manner. During an already stressful and emotional process, the interaction did not provide the support, attention, or patient-centered care that patients deserve. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this clinic.
