Wendy B. Shelly, United States
Dr. Shelly earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Penn State University and a medical degree from Penn State's Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. She then completed an OB/GYN residency at the University of Virginia, followed by a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of California, San Francisco.
Before joining Fertility Specialist Medical Group in 2011, Dr. Shelly practiced with Northern California Fertility Medical Center in San Jose and Palo Alto, California. She is the surgical director of the San Diego Reproductive Surgery Center, Fertility Specialist Medical Group's in-house surgery center. She has also been named one of San Diego Magazine's Top Doctors.
Dr. Shelly offers individuals and couples a full range of fertility services, including low- and high-technology treatments and fertility preservation. She has a particular interest in serving the LGBTQIA community and values the emotional bonds formed while caring for individuals and couples undergoing fertility treatment.
Dr. Shelly spent more than a decade learning from textbooks. Although she uses that knowledge every day, she recognizes that no patient fits a textbook profile exactly. She works with patients to tailor treatment and personalize care to the needs and goals of each individual or couple.
She chose reproductive endocrinology because it allows her to build unique, meaningful relationships with patients. She provides care with openness, acceptance, and trust. Because fertility treatment involves frequent visits and significant emotions, Dr. Shelly believes it allows her to truly care for and understand people.
As a mother and member of Fertility Specialist Medical Group's all-female physician team, she is most proud of her ability to connect with and comfort people facing infertility. She understands the desire to have a child and how it can affect a woman's sense of self, identity as a woman, relationship with her partner, and determination to realize this particular dream.
