Board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine (clinical instructor in obstetrics and gynecology), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, Maine Medical Association, and American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.

 

Dr. Worster enjoys obstetrics and gynecology with equal enthusiasm: “I will never forget my first delivery. It was a life-changing experience—a rush and a joy!” In obstetrics, she enjoys supporting fertility and caring for pregnant women through “birth and life.” Her gynecologic specialty is abnormal bleeding treated through minimally invasive surgery. After 15 years in practice while raising three young children, Dr. Worster knows that “work/family/life balance is a challenge for all women, regardless of their circumstances.” She encourages every patient to “live in the moment, be mindful, and make time for yourself.”

lives in Portland, Maine, with her husband and children. Originally from Jackman, Maine, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, and fly-fishing with her family in the Moosehead Lake region.

    I look forward to my appointments at Coastal Women's Healthcare. I have been coming here for five years. My doctor, Dr. Erin Dawson, is current on the latest medical knowledge for every stage of women's health, including menopause. She is compassionate, extremely intelligent, professional, personable, and funny. The clinical nursing team is kind, efficient, and caring. The front desk team is welcoming and helpful. My experience here has made me feel supported and has been 100% positive. I highly recommend them.

    Coastal Women's Healthcare and Dr. Jennifer Shinners: I recently visited the office and met Dr. Shinners for the first time. From the front desk and facility tour to the nurses and Dr. Shinners, everyone was professional, welcoming, positive, helpful, and responsive. I am delighted to have found such an excellent gynecologist. A gynecologist is a very important doctor in a woman's life. Words cannot express how impressed I am with Dr. Shinners. She read my records, asked important questions, and was very attentive and engaged. I immediately felt comfortable and confident that I was receiving excellent care.     Medically, they are excellent, but accounts receivable has major problems. In 2024/5, they sent us an invoice and said prepayment was required before surgery. They said we had not met our deductible and insurance would not pay, which proved untrue. They had coded the claim incorrectly. The insurer did not know about the hundreds of dollars we paid, so it did not count toward our deductible. Because my wife had cancer, we had to pay the deductible and out-of-pocket maximum ourselves while Coastal Women's Healthcare held hundreds of our dollars. We visited 3 times and called repeatedly. It is now September. Update: We continued pursuing this. They eventually realized they had made an error and tried to recode the original reimbursement request to our insurer. It was too late! Our insurer would not pay because claims had a 90-day deadline and said they could not bill the patient. The clinic agreed to refund us by check. I verified that they had our address, but they mailed it to the wrong one. We finally went in and collected a check for money that was ours to begin with. Terrible experience. I should say that medically, my wife received excellent care, and I would recommend them, but watch the accounting closely.

    Yesterday was my first appointment at Coastal Women's Healthcare. I felt truly heard and cared for. The facility is incredible, with everything from ultrasound to the laboratory available there.

    I have been a patient here since the mid-1980s, before it was renamed Coastal Women. I have had an excellent experience with every doctor there. Dr. Dawson and her team pay close attention to my healthcare needs and always provide highly professional advice when I need it. I have been treated with great integrity and am grateful for everything I have received there. At Coastal Women, my experience feels like a true visit, not just an appointment.

    I have seen Dr. Carla Burkley at Coastal for several years, and she is a true professional. I have had many appointments and procedures with her, and she always listens carefully and considers every aspect before proceeding. She is highly intelligent, thoughtful, and professional. She is patient-centered and an excellent doctor. During a recent painful procedure, the nurse caring for me, Christine, was very friendly and comforting, which made a major difference. I also had to check out at the billing desk, where the staff were very helpful and professional. Everyone at Coastal Women's makes an otherwise difficult course of treatment easier and more pleasant.

    They are fine for basic care such as Pap smears, but they essentially refused to test my hormone levels because I am not currently trying to conceive. I am almost 43 and have had perimenopausal symptoms, but they did not seem concerned. I eventually saw an HRT specialist who performed all the testing. The results showed no detectable progesterone or testosterone, so I am now receiving HRT and feel much better.

    Having my gyn doctor (4 hrs round trip)for 25 years retire this July, forced me to start the hunt for a new doctor/office closer to home. Hoping I'd chosen well, I met with Dr. Carla Burkley one day this week and could not be more pleased with the kindness and professionalism shown to me by each staff member from the time I was greeted at the front desk, shown to the exam room byJocelyn, checked out by Michelle after my visit and especially during my first meeting with Dr.Burkley.     I have been a patient of Dr. Berkley MD since 2015. I am disappointed, I did not get my annual mammogram and visit with Gyn doctor. Normally I was getting notification from the office yearly..This year I did not receive any notification.. I called today, the scheduler told me too late this year. .     I have seen Dr. Dawson for more than 25 years and will continue for hopefully many more. Driving two hours to see one of Maine’s best OB-GYNs is absolutely worthwhile. Erin brings warmth to every visit, remembers conversations from the previous year, and willingly provides referrals when needed to ensure you receive the best care, exceeding my expectations.     This is not a review of the business, but of the front desk. A few days ago, I walked in completely lost, crying, and panicking because the person I needed to see was not there. The two women at the front desk were extremely kind and helpful. They made calls for me and directed me to another facility. I believe the front desk is the face of a business, and these two women made me feel that this place would take every customer seriously. If I ever need their services, I will remember their kindness. Thank you for rescuing me that day.

    First, I have seen several doctors there and thought they were all good. They are compassionate, listen carefully, and try to find solutions. However, appointments are extremely difficult to obtain and require a wait of at least several months. This is a problem if you need cycle-based scheduling or have an irregular condition. The nurses are rude and dismissive, especially by phone. Today I called to move forward with a procedure I had discussed with my doctor for some time. The nurse immediately told me I could not decide to have it without seeing the doctor. She clearly had not reviewed my record. My questions visibly annoyed her, and she seemed eager to end the call. She could not say when I would receive a callback because “the doctor is not in today,” “she is seeing patients tomorrow,” and the nurse was “not sure when the doctor could review it.” This is extremely frustrating and disappointing, though perhaps common in many medical practices.

    I have been a patient here since becoming pregnant with my first child two years ago. My doctor, Dr. Slager, is knowledgeable, thoughtful, and kind, but I have had excellent experiences with all the doctors. Mine was a high-risk pregnancy, and I came in weekly for most of the second and third trimesters, so I met nearly every doctor. Dr. Sinas delivered my baby at Maine Medical Center and was excellent. I highly recommend this practice for quality obstetric and gynecologic care for all women.

    Now being in my late 30’s things were happening to my body that could no longer be ignored. I sat on some major decisions for a while before coming to the ultimate decision to have a major surgery. I had the option of going out of state to someone who specializes in endo excision but after doing a lot of research decided I was going to have my OBGYN Dr. Sam Ricci complete the procedure. I waited a while to complete the review as I wanted to be able to comment on recovery. I had my hysterectomy (leaving both ovaries) and endo excision completed on Dec 1 2025. I was out of work for approx 6 weeks as I have a very active job but the procedure, recovery process, and even getting back into real life stuff like lifting heavier weights again has all gone as expected on track and very well. Dr. Sam Ricci was so helpful along the way answering all of my questions and super compassionate at all times. When I was considering having the procedure done, I wished there had been more reviews online for the OBGYNs that complete these surgeries on the regular. So although I really didn’t necessarily want to share this vulnerable information, I decided to in hopes that it might help another woman in making her final decision. Wishing all you women in similar situations the best and thank you so much to Dr. Sam Ricci who helped me through one of my most challenging life decisions yet!!

    Ashley Pratt has managed my care for the past six years, and I trust her completely. She is intelligent, compassionate, and kind.     I highly recommend Coastal Womens Healthcare. My experience was excellent from start to finish. The staff were friendly, and the clinic was clean and modern. Having a mammography lab in the same building was very convenient. Dr. Dawson Chalet was outstanding: attentive, thorough, and willing to take time to understand my situation, which put me at ease.     I just called because I felt unwell after my C-section and took a test strip that showed an elevated pH, suggesting a possible infection. A nurse called back and said the doctor thought it appeared to be chronic and scheduled me for May 15, two weeks and two days away. No wonder women die because of poor medical care. If possible, do not go to this hospital, and try to avoid medical facilities in Maine.

    They’re so very nice at coastal women’s healthcare. I have a condition that I get checked out yearly and there good at giving you a reminder a few days before which is very helpful. The person that I see is extremely kind and gentle. I appreciate that so much.!!! Always courteous at the front desk too
