Dr. F. Nicholas Shamma is a founding member of IVF Michigan Fertility Centers, founder of Gift of Life Surrogacy Agency, and one of Michigan and Ohio's leading reproductive endocrinologists and infertility specialists. He is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. He has completed more than 8,000 IVF cases and helped thousands of couples achieve their dream of parenthood. Dr. Shamma has authored more than 150 publications and abstracts in obstetrics, gynecology, and infertility. According to the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, his paper on the incidence of intra-amniotic infection and causes of preterm birth in twins is among the 50 most cited papers in obstetrics and gynecology. His professional interests include preimplantation genetics, recurrent pregnancy loss, assisted reproduction, third-party reproduction, polycystic ovary syndrome, congenital uterine anomalies, ethical considerations in infertility, gestational surrogacy, and fertility preservation. Dr. Shamma is a highly compassionate physician who understands both the medical and emotional effects of infertility and provides personalized, compassionate care. Education
Dr. F. Nicholas Shamma earned his medical degree with highest honors from the American University of Beirut in 1985 and ranked first in his class throughout all four years of medical school. He began an internship at Yale New Haven Hospital in 1986. In 1990, he completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency and training at Yale New Haven Hospital under department chair Professor Frederick Naftolin. He then completed two fellowships at Harvard University in gynecologic oncology and gestational trophoblastic disease. In 1992, Dr. Shamma completed a two-year fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Yale University under director Professor Alan DeCherney.
Awards
Dr. F. Nicholas Shamma received the Pavlov Anatomy Award, the only award offered by the American University of Beirut Faculty of Medicine. During his clinical residency at Yale, he received the Andrew Friedman Award, presented to Yale's outstanding graduating chief clinical resident.

I want to provide feedback about my experience because choosing your doctor for this journey is very important, but the support staff determine and can ruin your experience. I think Dr. Shamma is excellent and the nurses are wonderful, but I encountered several persistent administrative problems. My main issue was reaching anyone. This is a major problem with IVF because timing is everything. Handling insurance issues, especially after an initial denial, was extremely frustrating. I ultimately had to do most of the legwork for my appeal myself rather than receiving guidance from the office. This week's medication issue is another example. The specialty pharmacy kept trying to contact them to confirm my prescription, but its inability to reach the IVF office could cause a delay. Because I have severe endometriosis, these delays are particularly concerning, as they disrupt both my treatment plan and overall health. I understand they may be understaffed, but better communication and more proactive patient support could genuinely make the difference between having a baby and not having one, because IVF depends entirely on timing, especially for patients with degenerative reproductive conditions such as endometriosis. I recommend that anyone considering this clinic ask how they handle communication, what support they provide, and their working hours and holiday schedules. In addition, you cannot receive your medical records from the office by email; they will only mail them or fax them to another office. If you need to keep them on hand for insurance purposes—and I recommend doing so because this office responds slowly and having records available can make a difference in timing, while I have obtained all my other records online from previous doctors—it may be difficult to get the information you need if you have a long drive to the office. However, when I was actually able to speak with Dr. Shamma and the nursing staff, they were wonderful.

We began and ended our infertility journey with this practice within one month. I had high expectations because I did not feel heard by my obstetrician about our efforts to conceive. When we met Dr. Shamma over FaceTime, he expressed understanding of our desire for a child, as we were experiencing secondary infertility.
We went to the office for an SIS procedure, but because of scar tissue, he could not pass the catheter into the uterus. He was able to perform an ultrasound, which showed a large endometrioma on one ovary that we had not known about. Dr. Shamma told us that IVF was our only chance to reproduce. After receiving a $28,000 bill, I scheduled an appointment with CNY Fertility. During the initial consultation, the nurse practitioner said that if a catheter could not be passed for the SIS, it could not be passed for egg retrieval or IVF. She said that even if they forced it, scar tissue on the endometrium would make a pregnancy unsafe. She recommended hysteroscopy with D&C to clear the uterus and laparoscopic surgery to drain the endometrioma and improve ovarian function, as it could not be removed because of the risk of destroying ovarian function. I am now scheduled with CNY Fertility for all these treatments. They treat me as a person and want to identify the underlying cause of infertility, then begin with conservative treatment before resorting to IVF, which is our preference because of the cost of IVF.
In short: IVF Michigan is focused on the money from a cycle. They do not care about the quality of the embryo's home, pregnancy safety, or conservative measures.

It was a pleasure working with Dr. Shamma and the team at IVF Michigan's Ann Arbor office. After several unsuccessful attempts of our own, Dr. Shamma gave us the greatest gift.
The care team at the Ann Arbor office stayed with us throughout the journey, answered all our questions, and maintained a positive attitude to help us through every obstacle.
On our second attempt, we achieved the result we had always hoped for. Now my wife and I cannot wait to meet our baby girl.

Too many babies die because of IVF. Those who survive are kept in freezers for many years. Sometimes the freezers malfunction, causing tens of thousands of babies to die. Unethical.

I believe this may be only my second Google review, but I feel it is necessary to share my painful experience at IVF Michigan so others do not have to endure something similar. I also recognize that people choose IVF for many reasons and that not everyone will share my story or circumstances. We began treatment at IVF Michigan in spring 2022. My first appointment was over FaceTime while the doctor was driving to Chicago with his family. Initially, we were told we might be candidates for IUI and completed the required testing. When we asked whether my husband might have a varicocele, we were told not to worry. During my saline ultrasound, the doctor commented that my anatomy looked good compared with the patient he had just seen, then continued discussing another patient's concerns. In October, we were told our chance of natural conception was 1-2%, our chance with IUI was 3-4%, and our chance with IVF was 60%. At the time, our insurance did not cover IVF, and more than $17,000 out of pocket per cycle was not realistic for us. I changed jobs and obtained insurance covering fertility treatment, including IVF, provided we went to the University of Michigan. Before our first University of Michigan appointment, we twice requested records from IVF Michigan, but they were not faxed until today, when my husband called a third time to confirm. We had our first University of Michigan appointment last week. When we shared the IUI success estimate, the doctor seemed confused and said the chance was more likely 15-20%. She asked whether my husband had seen a urologist about a possible varicocele. He had not because IVF Michigan told us it was not a concern. My husband provided another semen sample last Wednesday and saw a urologist today. He does have a varicocele, which can be treated with a fairly simple outpatient procedure covered by our insurance. The urologist told my husband that if he did not have the procedure and we proceeded with IVF, the risk of miscarriage in early pregnancy could be as high as 60-70%. We were shocked because this was entirely new information. Our experience at IVF Michigan felt predatory, as though we were directed toward the most expensive way to conceive even though safer, less invasive options were available and covered by our insurance. I feel deeply sad and angry about this experience. We trusted this organization for a year and feel misled. I do not want anyone else to experience this because infertility is already difficult enough.

At first, I was happy finally to meet Dr. Sharma after rescheduling a month later, but he ended our conversation after only 12 minutes. I fully understand that Dr. Sharma needs clearance from my psychiatrist before proceeding, but I had just paid $220 for the consultation. We both knew I had already frozen my eggs, so it was reasonable for me to want more information about IUI, which was completely new to me. Dr. Sharma kept saying he needed my clearance and summarized the entire IUI process in only two minutes. This was not what I expected from an initial consultation. I simply wanted to learn about IUI. Scheduling with this clinic was already difficult, and now I must spend more time contacting other doctors.

My husband and I had an excellent experience with Dr. Starostenko. She was kind, patient, and very thorough at every visit. We had previously seen some OB-GYNs whom we liked but sometimes found detached. In contrast, Dr. Starostenko’s warmth and thoughtfulness made us feel welcome, and she made every effort to answer our questions. We will certainly recommend her to couples struggling with infertility.

Do not go to this clinic. The reviews are accurate. Its scheduling is a complete mess. They repeatedly booked the wrong time and made me wait for months. At my first appointment, they assigned a doctor and then said the doctor was several hours away. The second appointment was the same. That one was virtual but was supposed to be an ultrasound. Do not waste your time, money, or energy. Infertility is already difficult, and this clinic will make it worse.
The facility is also dirty. The ultrasound machine was covered in dust, dust balls filled the room corners, and even the stirrup covers looked as though they had never been changed. Extremely disappointing.

Terrible. My husband and I came here after having several problems with another fertility clinic. We met the doctor and initially felt good about the visit. When we explained the issues with our previous clinic, they repeatedly assured us that this clinic would be different and promised a nurse would contact us to arrange everything. That never happened. There was no follow-up, not even an email. Fortunately, my husband and I eventually conceived without their help. Then, months later, they billed us despite providing nothing they had promised. I recommend looking elsewhere. There are also many less expensive options available.

I would not have my three children without Dr. Shamma and his teams at the Ypsilanti and Bloomfield offices. After many ups and downs during IVF treatment, I ultimately had three successful pregnancies at IVF Michigan Fertility Center.
My husband and I went to another clinic, where we created six normal embryos. We first transferred the highest-quality single embryo, but our first three attempts were unsuccessful. We decided to try for twins on our fourth attempt—a buy-one-get-one-free approach, as we were paying mostly out of pocket. I insisted on changing the medication protocol to progesterone in oil injections because I had previously been using suppositories. I did become pregnant but miscarried at six weeks. Meanwhile, several of my friends were being treated at IVF Michigan Fertility Center and had different transfer protocols. I sent their protocols to my doctor, but the clinic told me those were outdated practices and would not agree to change my current protocol other than adding progesterone in oil injections. We proceeded with a fifth transfer, which resulted in a biochemical pregnancy. I was devastated and had only one embryo left, a BC embryo of the lowest quality, so I changed doctors.
During my consultation with Dr. Shamma, he wanted to perform another egg retrieval because of the embryo's poor quality. I disagreed and told him this was my last attempt to have a child, so it had to succeed. He developed a special protocol that helped me achieve that goal.
After my son was born, I wanted him to have a sibling, so we underwent another egg retrieval. I now have a daughter and a son. I am deeply grateful to this clinic and highly recommend it.

My husband and I had an incredible experience here, and I will always be grateful for every staff member we met. Everyone at the front desk, the nurses, Debbie, and Dr. Shamma made our journey special, and we always felt supported. The hardest part was definitely the medication, but even as someone with an extreme fear of needles, you get used to it quickly, and it does not last forever. I am now 12 weeks pregnant, proving that the work they do here is truly amazing! I would 100% recommend IVF Michigan - Bloomfield Hills to anyone seeking help becoming pregnant.

Wow! I had my egg retrieval with Dr. Sharma, who is not my usual doctor and this was not my usual office, but I must say my nurses were the sweetest, most caring people I have ever met. My “main” nurse was Amanda C, and her bedside manner was perfect! I was very scared and nervous, and she answered all my questions and made sure I was okay. I then transferred to another nurse and went into the operating room. I do not remember everyone's name, but everyone I spoke with or who helped me was amazing! Dr. Sharma checked on me several times. He was wonderful and made me feel very comfortable. The nurses were the best part of the entire process—please thank them for me 💕

The process was straightforward, and they worked with you when needed. I always received an immediate callback. Every appointment was also on time, which was wonderful. I will always be truly grateful that Dr. Shamma overcame the odds and gave me two beautiful babies.
However!!!!!!!! The business is so disorganized and poorly run that every step drove me crazy.
Dr. Shamma can be very kind, but there were also times when his bedside manner was poor. I privately found a surrogate through a friend of a friend, and throughout our journey, Dr. Shamma and his nurse repeatedly urged her to go through his surrogacy agency, Gift of Life, instead of working privately with us. “You will make more money,” he said in front of me. I found this very unprofessional, and it made our surrogate extremely uncomfortable.
Another example of poor bedside manner occurred after we transferred our last embryo, a PGT-tested high-level mosaic. Dr. Shamma made several comments about waiting for the embryo to “declare itself,” meaning miscarry, during the early stages. This was very distressing during an already anxious time. That embryo is now my happy, healthy four-month-old.
Overall, I would research other IVF practices in the area. Some have much better reviews.

We had a wonderful experience at IVF Michigan in Bloomfield Hills. Dr. Hammoud and his entire staff were kind, supportive, and communicative throughout the process. Debbie, the phlebotomist, always made me comfortable during blood draws and was consistently friendly and supportive. They made us feel genuinely cared for, like family. IVF is physically and emotionally exhausting, but their compassion and constant encouragement made it much easier. We are deeply grateful for everything they did for us!

I began my IVF journey in Bloomfield in April 2024. It is now May 2025, and thank God, I am 17 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby. I am 31 and had previous complications, so IVF became my only path to having a family.
The entire process was well organized. I chose Dr. Shamma because of his excellent qualities, impressive success rates, and achievements. I am so glad I chose him; he was highly attentive and knowledgeable. His bedside manner may be the best I have ever experienced. What I appreciated most was that he respectfully said "bismillah" during my transfer, which made me feel very reassured. I am not certain of his religious beliefs, but his energy was wonderful.
The front desk answered 1000 emails from me, haha, and
they were very helpful if I was running late. I cannot remember any mistakes. Financially, I did not qualify for the "Progeny" or "Carrot" programs, so paying the full amount at once was quite expensive, but thank God we managed.
Finances are handled by a separate team, which keeps everything organized. The financial team is candid, direct, and methodical. They answer questions and ensure the amount you pay is reasonable so you do not overpay.
If you want a child and IVF is an option, I highly recommend Dr. Shamma and his team. All procedures are performed on-site in a very clean, organized setting. He was excellent, conducted comprehensive genetic screening, and gave us many tips and recommendations for achieving the best outcome. They use top-quality laboratory equipment, which is crucial to the final result.
Thank you for having me. I look forward to returning with my baby in 2026. It was an excellent experience!

If I could give this place zero stars, I would.
I tried to remain patient and hoped things would improve before writing this review, but unfortunately, they only became worse.
To them, you are just another paying patient—they do not genuinely care. The receptionists are rude, and most of the clinical staff are cold and lack empathy. I believe Dr. Hammoud himself cares, but sadly, the rest of the staff do not reflect that. The entire IVF process here is about money.
This review is not about whether my outcome was successful; it is about how terribly the office staff at this location treat you. IVF is already emotionally and mentally exhausting. Instead of supporting you, they add even more stress.
They rarely return calls or emails, and even when they do, do not expect consistent follow-up. You may wait 2-3 weeks or longer for basic answers or a response.
I deeply regret choosing this clinic. If you want to avoid unnecessary heartbreak, emotional strain, and frustration, do yourself a favor and find another IVF center that treats you like a person rather than a number.

A heartbreaking and frustrating experience—please read before choosing IVF Michigan
I rarely write reviews, but after nearly 10 months of wasted time, communication failures, and physical and emotional exhaustion, I feel compelled to share my experience with IVF Michigan.
I began with this clinic in late 2024, hopeful and ready to start IVF. From the beginning, I was told the process could not proceed without payment. I paid, expecting everything to begin, but progress stopped there.
Despite repeated calls and follow-ups, the clinic’s internal communication problems became increasingly clear. Nurses said they had never received my messages. Appointment information inexplicably disappeared or was never entered. At times, I felt as though I was shouting into a void, simply trying to be seen and heard by a clinic supposedly focused on care and compassion.
After months of effort, I was finally told that the records of my calls and consultations had disappeared. I was stunned. How can this happen at a trusted institution handling people’s most private, painful, and hopeful journeys?
The most painful part was the lost time—nearly a year that I could have spent moving forward instead of waiting for calls that never came or fighting for attention. Fertility treatment is not just a medical procedure; it is emotionally, physically, and financially draining. IVF Michigan’s lack of coordination, empathy, and basic follow-up was unacceptable.
Anyone considering this clinic should read every review before entrusting them with your future. Your time, emotional well-being, and family plans deserve better than what I experienced. A clinic should help people build their future, not leave them stalled or, worse, feeling ignored.
I sincerely hope this review encourages IVF Michigan to reflect on the real impact of its failures and make meaningful changes for future patients.

Very disappointing. The doctor seemed wonderful and knowledgeable, but the clinic's service was extremely poor. Three weeks after our initial consultation, we still had not received a quote, follow-up plan, or any communication from the clinic. The doctor told us to call a few days later to schedule bloodwork. We did and booked for the following week. We arrived for the bloodwork, waited half an hour, and then the nurse said she had no record of it. We left. After two weeks of calls and the nurse repeatedly saying she would contact us the next day, we gave up. This was terrible because we paid out of pocket to visit the clinic and received nothing but dismissive treatment.

I wish I could give zero stars. Extremely disappointing experience—not recommended.
Use great caution when choosing this clinic for fertility treatment. I saw mixed reviews before coming but decided to try it. After six months of treatment with Dr. Hammoud, I deeply regret that decision. I saw Dr. Hammoud only once, at my initial consultation. Despite three failed IUI cycles, I had no further follow-up with the doctor. Each time, the front desk immediately pressed me to pay for the next cycle without reviewing the previous one or offering guidance or support. The nursing staff were unresponsive and lacked empathy. I left multiple messages and never received a reply. During clinic visits, they spoke to me for barely two minutes after ultrasounds and offered neither information nor reassurance. Once, while standing in the clinic asking to speak with a nurse, I was told to call—even though I was already waiting there. The entire process felt cold, transactional, disorganized, and emotionally unsupported during a physically and mentally exhausting experience. It was discouraging to feel like a number during something so personal. Dr. Hammoud may be an excellent doctor, but he truly needs to reassess his front desk and nursing staff because their poor communication and lack of compassion seriously undermine his work. If you are considering IUI or IVF, I strongly recommend a clinic that is more patient-centered and emotionally supportive. Unfortunately, I feel I wasted six valuable months here and left with nothing but bills, medication, and frustration.

Our story has a happy ending however it was not achieved through this clinic. My wife had 2 children from a previous marriage and she got her tubes tied after her second child. She was in a bad marriage and decided that was the best option at the time. Her marriage failed and a few years later we started dating and eventually married. We decided we wanted children together as I had none of my own. We talked to several clinics and Nobody was doing tubal reversals at the time I guess for legal reasons. Ivf was our best option and we chose ivf michigan & ohio fertility centers. We did all the pretests to ensure we were good candidates for ivf. During this process is when doctors started doing tubal reversals again. We spoke to the doctor about this option again and he told us my sperm analysis showed low sperm count and that the tails of my sperm were rounded and therefore we would have little to no chance at conceiving on our own after a successful tubal reversal. So pushed for us to continue with ivf. We applied for many loans to pay for the ivf and only future family loans would finance us with a high interest high payment loan. We started the grueling process of ivf my wife had 14 eggs retrieved 10 were fertilized and only 1 made it to an embryo. We only had 1 shot. The egg transferred ended in miscarriage. We were left devastated and we couldn't possibly afford to start ivf again and the Dr just had an "oh well" attitude even though our world shattered. Still desperately wanting a child we decided to at least explore our options at a different clinic as we were not happy with our whole experience at Michigan & ohio fertility centers. Our new dr looked at my sperm analysis and said there was nothing wrong with my sperm quality and would give us a 75% chance at conceiving on our own after a successful tubal reversal. We did the reversal which is a fraction of the cost of ivf. Less than 10 months later our baby boy was born and we are so I love with him. This is truly the happiest ive ever been but the financial strain that ivf has put on our family has been difficult. The Dr at Michigan & ohio fertility centers pushed ivf on us when we clearly had a better option i guess it was a bigger payoff for him. We left Michigan & ohio fertility centers heartbroken with grief and financially ruined it was truly the biggest mistake of our lives choosing this clinic.

The front desk staff are busy but always smiling and encouraging. Deborah draws blood and is always ready to help. Ashley/Amanda and the other wonderful OR nurses always encourage you, listen, and laugh with you. This was truly one of the best experiences of my life.
We completed one egg retrieval, but none of the eggs developed into embryos. A few months later, after following Dr. Hammoud's recommendation to read a book, we obtained several healthy embryos. We then transferred a beautiful-looking embryo, but it did not implant. Dr. Hammoud and his team never gave up. They had a new approach ready each time. We have now completed our second transfer and are pregnant! :)
My husband and I could not have done this without Dr. Hammoud and his outstanding team. I will miss them!
My entire family will always be grateful for their skill in helping bring new life into the world!

Our fertility journey lasted three long years, and this clinic was by far the worst we encountered. We were referred to IVF Michigan for my husband's semen analysis and were told the results would be ready within a week. A month later, we still had nothing. They would neither give us the results nor fax them to our treating physician, so we could not continue treatment, though they made sure my insurance paid. At our next appointment, my doctor had to call their staff and ask an andrologist to review the results immediately because we could not proceed without them. The staff were rude and showed no urgency. A fertility journey is already frustrating, difficult, painful, and emotionally draining. It was disappointing that a facility presenting itself as caring, professional, and efficient made ours even harder. I would not recommend this clinic to anyone.

The operating room nurses were rude and lacked compassion, discussing patients as though I could not hear them. Breanna Cruz was one of the rudest nurses I have ever encountered, from receiving me at the front desk to taking me into the operating room. She inserted the needle very roughly and left me bruised after drawing blood—the worst blood draw I have ever experienced. This was my second transfer, but Nurse Breanna caused a great deal of unnecessary stress in the 15 minutes before it. Breanna Cruz does not seem to like her job and should not be doing it because her bedside manner is so poor. Worse, after leaving my room, she spoke negatively about me with her coworkers as though I could not hear them. Breanna lacks compassion and should not work at a fertility clinic. Patients are already going through enough and do not need rude treatment from nurses. Kindness is free and essential for patients experiencing infertility.
Breanna K, I hope you never have to endure infertility or encounter a nurse who treats patients the way you do!
My doctor, however, is wonderful, and we greatly appreciate everything he has done for us during our last two transfers :)

Update: More than a year has passed since my last review. I am now 32 weeks pregnant and reasonably satisfied with my experience here. It took a full year and a half to reach this point! During that time, I had to do extensive research to understand the process. The nurses are wonderful, but they can be slow to respond to messages. I still cannot give 5 stars because there is no online portal showing information or charges. Now that I am pregnant, I have to call or email for an updated bill, which is inconvenient.
Original review: I wish I could go elsewhere, but I cannot. I feel uninformed about every treatment and issue, and obtaining information always takes enormous effort. I cannot understand why their “patient portal” contains nothing—no laboratory, procedure, biopsy, or other results. It is the 21st century! They told me my procedure was covered by insurance, but I received an unexpected bill. I currently have a $2,300 bill that should have been paid by my insurer but was not. If you call after hours with a question, the main voicemail is always full. If you call the nurses, they respond within 24 to 48 hours, which is frustrating when some matters are time-sensitive. Seriously, if you can, go elsewhere. Save your time and energy because this clinic's quality does not match the money it makes.

I began treatment at this clinic in early 2024, and I am happy to share that after years of trying to conceive, I am now 10 weeks pregnant.
Since the clinic merged with Pinnacle, its systems, organization, and patient communication have improved tremendously. This was undoubtedly a difficult transition for the team, as any major workplace change would be, but it was absolutely worthwhile. I appreciate the entire clinic's persistence, which has made its processes more transparent and the team easier to reach with questions or concerns. The clinic's continued investment in improving patient care shows that patients remain its priority. Thank you to Dr. Shamma, Dr. Star, and the rest of the team for your support along the way. My first cycle with them they completely forgot to call me with my results after transfer and the one after that the communication did not get any better. Now here I am in the beginning of another cycle and I paid in full, signed their paperwork and I’m still waiting on someone to follow up with me. It’s Sunday, haven’t heard anything from them since Tuesday! I only came back because they take the coverage I have but this will probably be my last round with them. Also for the record I had 3 cycles with them none resulted in a live birth. Had to go somewhere completely different to get my son. (CNY) do with this info what you will.

Communication is poor. I have worked with them on infertility treatment for three years. Even before their merger with Pinnacle Fertility, communication was an issue, but the nurses were always wonderful and reassuring about any treatment or anything needed during the process. Since the merger, everything feels different. There are many new staff members, and most matters are handled through the portal or by texting customer service. People on this journey already face enormous stress and self-doubt, in addition to spending tens of thousands of dollars to fulfill their dream. The least they deserve is communication. They promise to follow up, but you never hear from them. I strongly recommend thoroughly researching different IVF clinics before beginning treatment.

Let me tell y'all something about their Director... Director Dana gets it DONE and makes things happen SWIFTLY. Okay!... SWIFTLY!!! I couldn't stay mad even if I wanted to. She saw my feedback, called me in less than 24 hours, listened to me, validated me, got a plan in motion, AND got staff aligned on my care THAT SAME DAY. I also got personalized attention from a different nurse Annalise who came with an action plan and guided through how they will improve my experience from finance to the doctor!!! I've never experienced such a quick turnaround. Updating my review to 4 stars, looking forward to making it 5 stars once we get further into my plan with the new staff. But my goodness, what a comeback! Thanks SO much!!!

If they weren't covered by insurance, I would absolutely never get services from them. I affirm the poor communication styles and the mistakes that others stated they've experienced. The information handoffs between departments, specifically the nurse navigator and the financial coordinator and the finance coordinator to insurance have been very clumsy and at times, completely wrong (finance sent over a procedure I didn't ask for to get approved by my insurance) which led to delays and stress. Everyone fingerpoints (finance would blame the navigator or insurance, navigator would blame finance or the doctor) I've had to have insurance reach out to finance and a lab clarify that the nurse navigator was incorrect in how they read a test result. We did need to change our care plan a couple times because we are new to all of this and had to take it upon ourselves to reach out to other clinics and nurses through insurance that help contextualize and make us aware of risks they didn't make us aware of- so our care plan needed to be adjusted. Instead of acknowledging they could've been more helpful, they all will repeatedly tell you it's not in their lane to help you with 'x' thing and then proceed to give you little to no resources to actually help resolve any points of nonclarity or issues. So it's perpetually your fault for not knowing niche information on various care plans... sigh.
They're clearly very siloed and it creates a very disjointed, clumsy, and unprofessional customer experience. They also come off very cold in-person. I've attempted to give them this feedback, but it hasn't gotten much better. If it does change, I will update my review.
If you have to use them like us, put on your managerial hat and clarify and double check EVERYTHING. Don't expect much warmth or helpfulness and educate yourself using things through your insurance (they offer nurse counseling) and their finance department so you can best advocate for yourself when you speak to their doctors, nurses, and finance folks. I'm talking codes, acronyms, etc because they speak to you as if you know them and they get a bit annoyed when you ask them to explain.
I think they have the elements to do well (their text responses, albeit unwarm, full of unknown acronyms, and wrong at times- it is quick), they have education docs that I was made aware of later in the process. I think if they lead with the education docs and provided reading at each stage (it's a lot of info) and calendars, that alone would be helpful. I also think if when you give them your goal, if they provided all options and a recommendation, that would help care plans be more accurate and fit the intended need. Also, less acronym-speak and more layman's/everyday client-speak would be a huge improvement. Also more accessibility to the Dr.
Oh- the lab staff (blood drawing, etc) were pretty nice, I'm excluding them from the review and the person who conducted my 1st ultrasound- she was cool and thoroughlyexplained some things. Not much interaction with Dr. H, except knowing he ordered an unnecessary test and our brief intro call with him.
Wish us luck with the rest of the process! I hope you have a better experience than ours if you choose them!

Special thanks to my nurse, Maddie, who was exceptionally kind, patient, and comforting throughout. She always took time to answer my questions and ease my concerns, which meant more than I can say.

As a physician, I strongly recommend Dr. Shamma. He is professional, ethical, compassionate, and excellent at helping my wife and me relax under intense stress. He is courteous and humble. Our treatment was very successful, and my wife is now pregnant. The clinic staff and nurses are also warm and friendly. I especially want to mention Talia. If she is your nurse, you are very fortunate. She communicates promptly and efficiently, is always available to answer questions, and is extremely kind. If we pursue IVF again, we will definitely return.

Updated review: Their patient/provider liaison, Lisa, called and helped resolve the issue. She explained that HAP plans have different tiers and mine does not cover Dr. Hammoud. Because of the communication error, she said they would cover the cost. I am awaiting a receipt to confirm this and appreciate her advocacy.
HAP members beware: This company engages in fraudulent practices. Dr. Hammoud was listed as participating in my HAP plan, so I consulted him. After a 15-minute virtual visit, he suggested that my fertility concerns might be caused by my age, 34, and excessive exercise, 25 minutes four days a week. Without any testing, he charged $230 and urged me to begin invasive IVF immediately. Only afterward was I told he did not actually participate with my insurer. HAP had no record that the facility had submitted credentialing documents and removed it from the network. Repeated calls, messages, and texts to billing went unanswered. Rude customer service representatives repeatedly insisted it was my fault and they could do nothing. At best, the experience was extremely unprofessional. At worst, it appeared designed to collect $230 from HAP members who believed the provider was in network. I repeatedly said I would pay if they ensured it would not happen again.
By contrast, Michigan Center for Fertility and Women’s Health confirmed my coverage before my first appointment. They saw me in person, based treatment on my individual test results, and used the minimally invasive approach I wanted. Thanks to their excellent care, I am now happily 33 weeks pregnant. I strongly recommend Michigan Center for Fertility and Women’s Health.

Although the physicians at Michigan IVF are highly skilled, their billing practices are questionable. In April 2026, I received a bill from January 2024. Receiving a bill more than two years later seemed strange. I called in April, but customer service could not answer my questions because they had changed billing systems and could not access information that old. My insurer had no record of a claim for the bill. I asked the insurer to contact them, but the billing department could not find a claim number either. My insurer is still waiting for the billing department to provide one. Now, when I call the number on the bill, a recording says it is unavailable. I recommend finding a fertility clinic with more ethical practices.

My initial consultation was virtual, and the doctor was more than 30 minutes late. For such a private matter, a virtual appointment felt inappropriate and unprofessional. I felt like an ordinary patient being treated as just another number in an assembly line. When the doctor finally joined the call, he had not reviewed my medical records and called me by the wrong name. This made me feel that he had no idea what he was looking at and simply did not care. I am extremely disappointed with this clinic and will definitely never return!

Although we have not yet achieved the outcome we hoped for, we remain hopeful as we continue IVF treatment and feel fully supported. The text messaging system is excellent, and responses are always prompt and helpful.
As others have mentioned, the executive director is outstanding. She made me feel more comfortable with this decision, listened carefully to my thoughts, offered guidance, and quickly connected us with a financial counselor when we needed one.
Dr. Starr is absolutely wonderful! She is knowledgeable, compassionate, and genuinely puts her patients' best interests first. You can feel how passionate she is about her work. I know we are receiving the best possible care!

We are deeply grateful to Dr. Shamma and the entire team for helping us throughout this journey. We were very fortunate to become pregnant after just one ovarian stimulation cycle and one embryo transfer, and we sincerely appreciate all the care and support they gave us along the way.
Everyone at the clinic was kind, patient, and considerate. Whenever I had a question or concern, the team always responded quickly and reassured me. This journey can be stressful and emotional, but they made the entire process feel less frightening and overwhelming.

I gave 5 stars because they truly deserve them. The entire process is emotionally demanding, but with confidence in my providers, patience, and trust, everything went smoothly and I was able to graduate from their Dearborn office. The front desk staff and nurses were very kind and answered my 9,000 questions each day as though this were my first child. Dr. Hammoud is a professional—efficient, confident, reassuring, and patient. As I said, the process requires patience. I prayed for myself and the staff, hoping they would be guided to help us reach the finish line correctly, and praise God, we are here. Thank you all! I will bring the baby back to meet everyone!

My wife's fertility doctor asked me to go to IVF for a semen analysis. I had to call IVF several times to schedule because they needed me to email photographs of my insurance card and the order. Each time I called, I waited more than 20 minutes to speak to someone, even though our conversation lasted no more than 2 minutes.
When I arrived, I found the room unsanitary and very noisy. The table was covered with something, perhaps dust, and there was a Styrofoam container that was supposed to hold lubricant but was empty. The room had no toilet, only a sink. During nearly all of the 30 minutes I was there, staff talked loudly outside the door about lunch and other matters. In my opinion, the room should be very quiet and farther from the hallway.
I recommend that anyone needing to go to IVF for testing try one of their other clinics. Hopefully they are better than this one.

If I could give this clinic 10 stars, I would. This place is wonderful. The front desk is extremely nice and always on top of everything. I do not know where to begin with Dr. Hammoud. He is truly an amazing doctor who cares, listens to patients, and makes the impossible possible. He is a miracle worker. Zayneb was my primary nurse this year, and her work was truly outstanding. She became a friend, not just a nurse. Jessica is also wonderful; both have beautiful souls. I wish I could stay at this clinic forever. IVF Dearborn has become my family. I thank every one of you. I cannot wait for you to meet our joy in 2025 🙏🏼❤️

I cannot adequately express my gratitude to the staff at IVF Michigan Dearborn. The clinical staff always answered my questions with care and compassion, no matter how basic. After hours, the on-call nurse returned my call within minutes. Jessica made me look forward to blood draws, which still sounds strange when I tell friends and family. Danielle was especially patient with me during infertility and IVF treatment. We will always be grateful to Dr. Hammoud for helping create the beautiful little life we otherwise would not have. Infertility is difficult, but the staff at IVF MI Dearborn made it feel more manageable and shared every emotion with me along the way. We cannot say enough good things about IVF Michigan in Dearborn. Their excellent team, especially Dr. Hammoud and his staff, made our fertility journey much easier. From the start, they were responsive, caring, and fully committed to helping us become parents. When we initially had insurance problems, the financial department went above and beyond to help us proceed. Whenever we had questions or concerns, someone called back the same day, which was very reassuring. Staff such as Jess, who drew blood gently and professionally, were wonderful, and receptionists always welcomed us with warm smiles. They knew our names, which made us feel comfortable. Appointments were quick, with waits rarely longer than a few minutes. Early-morning appointments also kept us from missing work. The Bloomfield Hills location was equally excellent. IVF Michigan made a potentially stressful process feel pleasant and manageable. We are deeply grateful that they helped make our dream of parenthood a reality.

The authorization team is terrible. They allowed me to undergo testing without telling me the laboratory receiving my bloodwork was out of network. I should have been informed beforehand and allowed to choose whether to proceed with a $3,000 test. The billing representative I contacted was also rude and seemed unwilling to help. After nearly five years with infertility, the lack of professionalism and empathy from this company's staff is unacceptable. Dr. Star is kind, but dealing with everyone else is a nightmare.

Wow. If you genuinely care about your fertility and a possible pregnancy, do not come here. Three days before my appointment with Dr. Hammoud, my husband had a semen analysis at this clinic. During my telehealth appointment, his results were read aloud. Dr. Hammoud initially did not understand that my husband had been tested at the same clinic three days earlier and then could not find the results. After I gave him the ordering doctor's name, he ‘miraculously’ found them and read them off-camera. He told me our chance of natural conception was 5% and our chance with IVF was 60% because my husband's sperm were ‘severely abnormal.’ I could not believe it. All this was delivered during a 20-minute appointment. Four days later, my husband received his results: completely normal, with no sign of sperm abnormalities. No one ever contacted him about either the alleged or actual results.
We are completely certain that Dr. Hammoud read someone else's results to me and tried to steer me toward IVF because I have good insurance. Two days later, I had a positive pregnancy test. I cannot overstate how deceptive this practice is. I just received an email from the clinic asking me to begin the fertility process, including a psychiatric evaluation. I will never seek their help again.

They said a nurse would call, but no one has. This is irresponsible and wastes people's time. I have lost interest as well. I am eager to become pregnant and already emotionally exhausted, but they do not understand the effort my husband and I have made. They do not care and do not call me.

My husband and I tried for several years to conceive on our own. When we first visited the clinic, we were nervous but hopeful. We tried two rounds of IUI, but unfortunately neither worked. I was also nervous when we decided to pursue IVF with Dr. Star, but she made the process as smooth as possible. She listened carefully to all our concerns, feelings, and uncertainties. She truly made the entire journey much easier. With Dr. Star and the whole clinical team, I had a very positive experience. My wife was referred to IVF by her OB and we were going to start with the IUI procedure. We financed a part of it. IVF received the money and I want to cancel now. I've been trying to get a refund for the past 3 weeks and Kelsey, from the financial dept, on more than one occasion told me that she doesn't know what to do and it's upper management that's dealing with this issue. I keep calling for a resolution and I keep getting their VM. I've left numerous messages and no one will call back. I guess once they get their money, it's screw you and good luck?

How can I describe the team at IVF Michigan in Dearborn? Flawless! They are outstanding, knowledgeable, and highly professional. Dr. Star is one of a kind. Julia at the front desk always finds a suitable appointment time. She is consistently friendly and quickly solves any scheduling issue, even when I need a last-minute visit or ultrasound. I want to clarify that I am giving two stars instead of one because the doctors here are highly skilled, and I have no complaints about the medical care.
But the administration? This may be the worst-run clinic in the entire state. If you are considering treatment here, be aware that communication will be extremely difficult. Poor communication with clinic staff is unavoidable, and keeping up with everything will feel like a full-time job. No matter how many times you call, it takes more than a month to get a simple document from the billing department. All of this adds unnecessary stress to an already difficult situation.
If I could do it again, I would choose another clinic and spare myself the stress.

I had a wonderful experience at Pinnacle Dearborn. The nurses were always so kind, patient, and genuinely supportive, which made every visit much easier. I especially want to thank Jessica, the nurse and phlebotomist. She was very friendly and caring, and she was the only person who could draw my blood successfully on the first try! She always made me feel comfortable and relaxed, even when I was nervous. It is clear that she truly cares about her patients. I want to express my sincerest thanks to Dr. Star and her outstanding staff. This is the right place for you, so do not go elsewhere. The level of care and compassion I received was incredible. Nurse Alexis is truly one of the best people on the planet. She is supportive, communicates very well, and genuinely wants the best for patients. If there were an MVP award for best nurse, she would be the defending champion. Dr. Star is also the most compassionate doctor I have met. The path to parenthood is neither easy nor perfect, but she will do everything possible to help you achieve your blessing! I never felt rushed or ignored. We encountered a small issue, and after I raised it with the staff, everything was resolved within a day because they genuinely care. Communication is key, so do not be afraid to speak with staff. I highly recommend this office. We met with several offices before deciding, but after speaking with Dr. Star, this place felt like home. They want to build families and are very organized. I was deeply impressed by their attention to every detail. I wish I could give ten stars, though I do not have a child yet! But I know it is coming, so I am thanking them in advance. As an ‘older’ mother, I entered the office on the first day frightened and anxious, but working with these women gave me confidence and support and truly melted my worries away. Thank you for listening to my countless questions and holding my hand through the difficult parts, mainly the injections, haha. Over three years, my husband and I had a long journey with IVF Mi: 1 egg retrieval, 2 failed transfers, and 1 miracle pregnancy. During this time, we worked with Dr. Shamma at the Ypsi location and found he was not the right fit for us. We ultimately switched to Dr. Star for our third transfer. She showed tremendous care and concern from our first transfer with her and helped us successfully conceive our son. We are extremely grateful to everyone at Grand Blanc for their encouragement and positive attitude when we became pregnant in November 2024 and for the support and love we continued receiving through 10 weeks. I am so grateful for this team.

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! Every single person at the Grand Blanc location will hold a special place in my heart forever! They are all wonderful people, so compassionate, caring and knowledgable. I always felt welcomed, heard and respected whether it was during an in person visit, via email or over the phone. They all go above and beyond to create a safe, comfortable environment, and I never felt like I was being rushed or “just another patient”. They took the time to explain all the options I had, each procedure thoroughly and ensure that I understood what was happening each step of the way. Even after my appointments were over, they continued to be available for me whenever I needed them. I wish every doctor’s office treated people with such dignity and grace! I highly recommend Michigan IVF and Ohio Fertility Center in Grand Blanc to anyone navigating the difficult journey of infertility! Dr. Star and nurse Alexis are amazing! Dr. Star is exceptionally thorough, skilled, compassionate, and empathetic. Alexis responds very quickly to any questions, and it is clear that she truly cares about her patients. I have a Type A personality and become anxious easily—which is not ideal when so much is beyond your control, haha—and they both did a wonderful job easing my anxiety. My husband and I were patients of Dr. Star and nurse Alexis for about two years, and we graduated from the clinic yesterday. We completed several monitored cycles, IUI, and finally one IVF cycle. After our first and only IVF retrieval and first transfer, I am now 12 weeks pregnant with a boy. Dr. Star and Alexis made everything bearable and were incredibly comforting and kind whenever I needed to vent or cry. The medical assistants and Ariel at the front desk were also wonderful. They were highly responsive and answered my texts or emails promptly, sometimes even on weekends. They also work with the Chosen Fertility group to provide IVF grants and offer income-based IVF discounts, so watch for these if you come here because many people do not know about them. This was very helpful. We hated needing help when we began this process, but after graduating we did not realize how hard it would be to say goodbye to such a wonderful clinic—until we return for our second child. 🩵 It is a long, difficult journey, but the clinic and providers you choose make an enormous difference.

After my husband and I completed IUI at Kindbody, we came to IVF Michigan when Kindbody suddenly closed its Michigan clinic. We were hesitant and nervous about starting over and entrusting something so important to another doctor. From the beginning, Dr. Star exceeded our expectations. She was not only highly skilled but thoughtful and kind. She even shared her own IVF experience, which made me feel more secure and confident because I knew she truly understood what my husband and I felt.
When Dr. Star was unavailable, I worked closely with nurse Alexis, who was wonderful and consistently went above and beyond. She ensured I never felt alone and that every question was answered thoroughly. After one failed IVF cycle, Dr. Star carefully adjusted our protocol, and today I am thrilled to announce that my little miracle is on the way! I have heard and personally experienced many instances of cold, careless, or dismissive fertility care, but never encountered that here. The entire experience was excellent, and I have complete confidence in this team.

Words cannot express my gratitude for this team! Dr. Star is the best doctor I have ever met. She listens and is extremely helpful. Nurse Alexis always patiently answered my questions and replied to emails very quickly. I unfortunately forgot the name of the woman who drew my blood, but she was very kind and always made me feel welcome. The two women at the front desk were also consistently friendly and eager to help with any questions. Overall, this clinic has an absolute dream team! You will see the doctor maybe once then every time you go in for tests or monitoring you only get contacted by the nursing staff who have spoken with the doctor about you. Or you can pay $200+ dollars for a separate appointment to talk to the doctor. Not only did I feel like a number with almost no contact to the doctor, after almost a year of going here with no success cost of services doubled. When i asked why something was costing us double from last month, they told me they were committing insurance fraud previously and not charging insurance properly. Insurance fraud is the exact terms the staff used. They proceeded to tell me if they were to continue charging my insurance the way that they had been and I were to get audited I would owe all of the money that my insurance has covered for these procedures. I am seeking other care after talking to many others that did not have success with this network of IVF doctors.

I tried to schedule a consultation but was told I could not because I was not “actively trying to conceive.” The purpose of the appointment was to find out whether I could become pregnant because I have several health concerns. This was frustrating because my doctor had advised me to see a fertility specialist.

I cannot express my gratitude to Dr. Thakore and her staff. After 4 years, we finally had a good outcome! My only regret is not finding Dr. Thakore and her team sooner. From blood draws and scans to front desk interactions, every employee was essential to our process and success. Everyone was pleasant and easy to communicate with. They were very upfront about pricing and costs. You do not need to worry about hidden fees or some of the questionable things you may see or hear elsewhere. I had some terrible experiences before finding Dr. Thakore and her staff. I would return here in the future. If you currently have problems, I recommend switching 10/10. We were deeply impressed by IVF Michigan's professionalism and genuine care. Although our IVF journey is not entirely over...

After a year of unsuccessful treatment at TFC, including 2 failed retrievals, with no explanation of why treatment was not working, my wife and I switched to IVF-MI when it opened in Grand Rapids. The experience was night and day. Dr. Thakore is extremely empathetic, intelligent, and willing to try different approaches to achieve success. She truly tailored our treatment plan to us and our family-building goals. The nursing staff were also very kind and helpful. Although we had little interaction with the laboratory staff, our results demonstrated their excellence and hard work. We genuinely felt the entire team was supporting our success—and ultimately, we succeeded! After one retrieval and a fresh transfer, I am now 7 months pregnant with our first child.

Like many others, we were patients at TFC and are so glad we switched to IVF MI-GR! IVF MI's fees are transparent and provided upfront, with no hidden charges or surprise bills. The front desk staff and nurses are extremely friendly. They move as quickly or slowly as you need. Dr. Thakore is very intelligent, and I trust her 110% with my care. She is straightforward and honest while remaining very kind, exactly what I wanted. I also had an excellent experience with Dr. Hammoud at the Bloomfield Hills office! I highly recommend IVF Michigan!

Dr. Takure is wonderful. The support staff leave much to be desired. We needed help obtaining prior authorization from Aetna. The provider team failed to complete a peer-to-peer review within 14 days. After we got Aetna to allow another peer-to-peer opportunity, the team failed to call the provider precertification line. After being told another prior authorization would be submitted or a nurse would follow up on the required letter and lab work, three weeks later we are now told we must speak with the doctor first. Every team blames another team, and we are not allowed to speak with the team submitting information to Aetna. Extremely frustrating. My spouse and I both work in healthcare. We know this is complicated, but I cannot imagine how many people may pay out of pocket simply because the provider team did not follow through with the insurance steps required for approval.

It was extremely frustrating to make so many attempts to schedule an initial appointment. I uploaded the requested documents three times. The first time was through their website, and I received confirmation that everything had been uploaded, but when I called again, I was told, “No!! The documents are not in the system.” The representative completed all the information by phone and asked me to create a profile and upload everything again. I did so, and my appointment was scheduled. We arranged time off one week in advance, but three days before the visit I received a call from an unknown number. I declined it and immediately received a message saying, “Your documents have not been uploaded, so we canceled your appointment.” I called again and explained. They said they could schedule another day, but not the original date, even though I called within 15 minutes of the cancellation and offered to bring every required document and sign all forms at the hospital. I have to drive an hour each way and request time off a week in advance. You understand that not everyone can do this, right? I have never experienced this level of frustration with any hospital. It should be easier when there are no other options. I am completely disappointed before even visiting.

We had a terrible experience with Dr. Shamma. During the consultation, he described my wife's uterus as "not compatible with life"—an extremely disrespectful and hurtful phrase that showed no compassion for an already vulnerable patient.
He also diagnosed my wife with a uterine fibroid, claiming it filled her entire uterus. Subsequent ultrasounds with other doctors found no fibroid. Just two weeks after his diagnosis, my wife conceived naturally, and we are now proud parents of a healthy one-year-old child.
His careless language, inaccurate diagnosis, and overall approach left us feeling dismissed and disrespected. I would not recommend him to anyone seeking compassionate, professional care.

Updating after the clinic contacted me:
I chose this fertility clinic with high hopes, especially because this was my first intrauterine insemination (IUI). My initial experience was very positive. The doctor I met during the consultation ultimately led me to choose this clinic. I also appreciated the fertility center's efficient, prompt, and convenient text-message communication.
My concerns began with the financial agreement. I was quoted about $1500 and required to complete follow-up monitoring at the clinic rather than locally, as I do not live nearby. I understood that medication was excluded, but believed the quote included the other services related to the procedure. Unfortunately, it did not.
The same week as my IUI, I received an additional $200 bill for 'specimen processing.' When I asked about it, my financial advisor said they had not previously known about the fee. I disputed the charge, but it was not waived. Given the substantial financial and emotional investment of fertility treatment, this unexpected cost felt unfair.
In addition, the IUI was performed by a nurse practitioner rather than the doctor I originally consulted, and I had no further contact with the doctor after the initial visit. I understand that care teams often work collaboratively, but this was not clearly communicated beforehand, which was disappointing.
This clinic may be right for some patients, but I wanted others considering treatment here to know about my experience, especially regarding itemized costs and the level of physician involvement.
Update—someone later contacted me and advocated on my behalf, and the extra $200 charge was ultimately refunded. This restored some of my confidence in the fertility clinic.

If you value communication and efficiency, I strongly advise against this practice. Whenever I had a question or concern, I was transferred repeatedly, eventually left a message, and never received a response. After changing insurance, I contacted the clinic to update my information, but even after repeated follow-up, I was never scheduled with the registered nurse or financial advisor. The clinic seems not to understand or care that people spending large sums on IVF need transparent, effective communication and an efficient care team.

So far so good! I enjoy the supportive navigator experience which I am not accustom to based on the experiences with my previous clinic! Will update as we continue on but our first experiences have been very easy and I definitely feel heard and supported so far. Staff was all very friendly and helpful. Dr. Thakore was a delight to meet and really listened to where we were at and what our previous experiences were to come up with a plan that fits our current goals. I see some concerning reviews left here to have on my radar, but what I can say for initial consultation and some diagnostic testing so far, It’s been nothing short of a very smooth, transparent, and supported process.
This is not my first rodeo either. Before we relocated to the area, we had 2 retrievals, 2 fresh transfers and 1 frozen transfer experience with another clinic. While we do have a beautiful daughter from that experience, I can say the communication was lacking and the bulk of the work was on the patient to figure out what the heck they needed to do next with very little guidance. I do not feel that way here yet, it’s been the total opposite and I feel so relieved about it! I hopeful that the experience continues in that positive direction!

Our interactions with the doctor during the consultation and egg retrieval were very positive. However, when it came to billing and payment, we were told that all charges had been processed through insurance and were not covered. We therefore prepaid several thousand dollars for services.
After checking with my insurer, I learned that some charges were covered and that this doctor was in network, which should have resulted in a substantial discount. For months, I have tried to obtain the relevant documentation from the clinic and understand why they said the charges had already been processed through insurance. This feels very deceptive and now makes me concerned about their ethics in other parts of the process.
I tried to escalate the matter to management, but no one seems to respond. The clinic's communication system is terrible, as is its billing department. At this point, I can only hope the medical team is competent and ethical.

Wow, I hardly know where to begin. The GR IVF team is amazing! We were fortunate to have Emily as our guide and Haley perform our ultrasounds. We were also honored to have Dr. Shama. My husband and I tried for a baby for 13 years before beginning this journey. In just 6 months, they helped us achieve our dream. Avoid this place if possible. My doctor referred my husband here for testing. They said the results would be ready in 3-5 days, but 4 weeks have passed and there are still no results. I keep calling, but they always say they cannot tell me how far along the test is or whether the results have been faxed to my doctor. I will tell my doctor not to refer any more patients here.

Dr. Hammoud and the staff at IVF Michigan Macomb were outstanding and amazing! We first worked with Dr. Hammoud in 2020, and he was very supportive and open-minded during our first cycle. We eventually discovered that I had more serious reproductive issues, but he agreed with everything my reproductive immunologist and I did for our second cycle and fifth transfer. This resulted in a mostly normal, healthy pregnancy and the birth of a beautiful baby boy in July 2023. We are extremely grateful to Dr. Hammoud and his staff for helping us have our miracle baby!

I wish I had read all the reviews at the start. Maybe then I would have known that Umbridge—I mean Dawn—works there. If you do not understand, that is a Harry Potter reference, and it is not a compliment. She is condescending and rude and seems to think we can pay for everything out of pocket. I have insurance. Is this legal? Once I determine where to submit it, I may file a formal complaint because this truly does not seem legal. These are thousands of dollars, and I should be able to use my insurance. If not, they should have said from the start that they do not accept insurance and are cash-only, which they did not. If you are completing IUI or IVF with them, call your insurer or check online to confirm anything was actually submitted, regardless of what Dawn says. How did I learn all this only after everything was completed? I am furious!

I just do not understand why the staff, especially the front desk and more specifically DAWN—what a horrible woman, and I swear she lies—are so rude and lacking in compassion. I would go elsewhere if I could, but I am halfway through the process and have already spent so much money. The front desk makes every question feel like a burden to them. This is extremely expensive. Excuse me if it is difficult to understand every item on the paperwork and whether everything is being billed correctly through insurance. I do not believe you, because I have caught mistakes before and been billed incorrectly or had claims submitted improperly. It is fair for me to question this, and I would appreciate a specific answer or at least ‘let me double-check,’ rather than a generic ‘yes, we always bill everything.’ Really? Then why have I found incorrect bills before? I think Dawn lies too. She CLAIMS she bills insurance for authorization but does not. DO NOT BELIEVE HER. CALL YOUR INSURER TO VERIFY.
I truly cannot stand the front desk staff. They are mean, rude, and lack compassion. If I were the doctor, I would replace them. This is SUCH a difficult journey, so their attitude is deeply discouraging.

Communication between the front desk and the billing and authorization department was terrible. I sent multiple emails proving that my insurance covered IVF services, yet months later they still claimed I had no coverage. I filed two insurance appeals with IVF of MI, but they did not even submit the physician documentation, laboratory results, or records of my failed IUI. This clinic is awful, and I would never recommend it to anyone! This is already an extremely confusing journey, and you might expect or hope that the staff would be kind and courteous, but unfortunately that was not the case here. I recommend exploring other options.

After several failed IUIs, two failed transfers, and a miscarriage, I am finally pregnant with twins! I want to thank Dr. Hammoud and the nurses in Macomb! After each failure, they always prepared my husband and me for the next step, which kept me hopeful. I never had to hope that my favorite nurse would be there because they were all my favorites, haha. Deanna, Shannon, and Janice are wonderful women who always made me feel comfortable. I could always tell they were cheering me on. Thank you, IVF Michigan, for making this girl's dream of becoming a mother come true. 🩵🩷

I cannot recommend Dr. Hammoud and the team at IVF Michigan Macomb enough. After more than a year of unsuccessful IUIs with another provider, I met with Dr. Hammoud—and in my very first appointment he identified why IUIs weren’t working for me. We moved to IVF, and my first round was successful. The entire staff created a calm, stress-free environment, and Dr. Hammoud was the most gentle, empathetic, and knowledgeable physician I’ve ever seen. Thanks to this amazing team, I’m now holding my beautiful daughter—the greatest gift of my life. I’m endlessly grateful for their expertise and compassion.

The doctors at this clinic are greedy. Without even knowing what was wrong with me, they recommended IVF because it means a large payment for them. Here, you are just a dollar sign and merely another patient; they do not care about you! After I had enough, I went to another clinic, Michigan Fertility & Women's Health Center on 13 Mile Road in Warren, and I am now pregnant without IVF because they care!! I do not want you to waste your time here as I did. You will thank me later!
The fact that many negative reviews describe the front desk staff as unsympathetic and rude, especially Dawn, yet no action has been taken, says a great deal about this clinic's culture.

I cannot say enough good things about IVF Michigan & Ohio Fertility Centers in Macomb. From the moment I entered, I felt supported, understood, and genuinely cared for.
Dr. Hammoud is a wonderful physician. He is patient and knowledgeable and always explains every step, making me feel safe and reassured. His calm confidence greatly reduced my anxiety throughout treatment.
My primary nurse, Shannon, was excellent. She was my strongest support—always kind and responsive and always ensuring my needs were heard. She truly went above and beyond.
Melissa, who handled most of my blood tests, was incredibly skilled. She never missed a vein, always kept me comfortable, and brought warmth to every early-morning appointment.
This team guided me through an emotional and stressful journey with tremendous compassion. I am deeply grateful for their care and recommend this clinic to anyone beginning IVF.

Dr. Hammoud and the nurses/staff at the Macomb office do everything possible to make you feel valued, heard, and cared for like family. Shannon supported me through three pregnancies, and I am grateful to have had the same nurse who knows me and my history. Their treatment is not one-size-fits-all; Dr. Hammoud only allows treatment when he is 100% confident that your body is ready. I learned to trust the process and the experts while still being able to ask any question. This is the best nearby clinic, and I have always recommended them and will continue to do so. 🫶🏼

I cannot fully express my gratitude to this clinic. Dr. Hammoud has the best bedside manner of any doctor I have worked with—always positive, encouraging, and extremely thorough. My patient coordinator, Shannon, was thoughtful and answered questions quickly. Dawn and Lola at the front desk were always warm and friendly, and Melissa was consistently kind during lab work. The other staff were also excellent.
I just graduated from care with my second baby, and saying goodbye was emotional. My husband and I are incredibly grateful to this team for helping us realize our dream of building a family.

My experience with Dr. Shamma was extremely disappointing and frustrating. Despite being an IVF specialist, this doctor lacked the ability to think beyond standard approaches when handling complex fertility issues. After several consultations and an invasive hysteroscopy, Dr. Shamma failed to diagnose my endometriosis correctly, causing unnecessary pain, expense, and delays. Instead of exploring every treatment option, they quickly pushed me toward surrogacy without adequately investigating or treating my underlying condition.
I felt like I was on a conveyor belt, with no consideration for individualized care or alternatives. If you want a doctor who listens, thinks critically, and exhausts all possible treatments before recommending an extreme measure such as surrogacy, I strongly advise against Dr. Shamma. The lack of insight and narrow approach wasted valuable time and emotional energy. I would not recommend this practice to anyone with complex fertility issues.
After laparoscopic surgery by another IVF specialist who identified and excised my endometriosis, I now have a one-year-old child. One month after surgery, I conceived naturally. This followed 3 failed transfers with Dr. Shamma and being told nothing else could be done. I continue to meet women with very similar experiences and felt compelled to post this review in hopes of saving others from the heartbreak that I and many women experienced at Dr. Shamma's expense.

I called them, and they do nothing for male fertility other than IVF, so I do not know why I was referred here. I suppose IVF earns more money than investigating what is wrong with the man. I wanted help determining how to diagnose and possibly treat my issue, but they kept repeating that they treat through your partner and showed no interest in whether my problem could be resolved so we could conceive naturally. My doctor's referral to them was completely useless; they did nothing. Given that one IVF cycle costs 15–30k, I understand why they do not care. Go straight to IVF rather than checking for a simple blockage, varicocele, or anything else. Their description says they treat male infertility, but that is untrue and needs to be updated.

Since starting treatment, I have not been able to speak with Dr. Sharma, and I was just told it costs $200 every time I want to speak with him.

Dr. Shamma and the nurses were caring, compassionate, and kept everything in the process moving.
Megan and Kim were especially awesome to work with- they stayed on top of the many deadlines involved, communicated everything every step of the way and were always sure to answer any questions we had throughout the entire process.
Dr. Shamma took the time to talk through all of our questions and we never felt rushed even though we know he is very busy. He always made us feel like we were his only patients.
We tried IUI unsuccessfully two times, even though it wasnt recommended because of the low likelihood of success. Then we did IVF and were able to retrieve 14 eggs, 7 fertilized, 1 transferred and today I’m 16 weeks pregnant with a baby boy! My husband and I are extremely grateful to Dr. Shamma and the entire team!

This follows my previous review. Around this time last year, I began my IVF journey. I had my first saline ultrasound, and my husband had a semen analysis. We then heard nothing for three months until someone told me that follow-up was the patient’s responsibility. Initially, they said my results were normal and looked good, while my husband had low sperm motility. Three months later, the results somehow changed to say he was fine and I was not. I cannot understand how a medical facility can treat patients so carelessly. A year later, I still live with the trauma caused by incorrect test results.
Now they care only about payment, not an apology. I receive daily billing reminders that I do not need. Given what they did to me, I will pay when I am ready. Please do not go to this clinic. I would never recommend it to anyone I care about.

I previously received treatment at an IVF clinic in the southern part of the state. Transferring to Michigan IVF Center was the best decision of my life. I absolutely love the team in Saginaw. I feel heard and cared for. Last December, my embryo transfer at the previous clinic failed. This April, I had my first transfer at Michigan IVF Center, and it was successful! Dr. Sharma is knowledgeable and highly skilled. But the best part is his team. Every question I had was answered, every concern I had was addressed, and every emotion I felt was understood. If my dedicated nurse navigator didn’t know the answer, she would find a way to get it. There was never any issue with communication, and I never felt lost. Everything went smoothly from preparation to the day of the transfer. If I could give 10 stars, I absolutely would.

This place is terrible 😞 I had cancer three years ago, so we decided to preserve our eggs and embryos. This year I called to say we were ready to begin having a child, and they told me they had none of my embryos. They had not developed and died 3 hours after the procedure. Why did no one contact me? There was never a letter or phone call. I learned only when I called the office, and I am still fighting for answers.

I have nothing but love for IVF Michigan.
Everyone is so kind! I could tell that every staff member genuinely supported me and remained hopeful at every step. What I appreciated most was that when my first transfer failed, Dr. Shamma immediately discussed changing my protocol to improve the chances for the second transfer. I have heard many horror stories from elsewhere, not this clinic, about people having to advocate constantly for themselves because their clinics refused to change anything. Their immediate response to adjust the plan gave me the confidence I needed when I had lost all hope. I also appreciated that every one of my many questions was answered promptly and respectfully. It quickly relieved my stress and anxiety and made the information easier to understand.
I absolutely love this team and cannot recommend them highly enough! Thank you for helping make my dream come true.

From the beginning, I knew this would be a terrible experience. My husband called to schedule an analysis, but they gave us no relevant information and left us to research it ourselves. When the analysis was performed, they did not explain how long the results would take or how we would receive them. He called to ask when they would arrive, and they said Wednesday. A day later, there were still no results. He contacted them again, and they told him something completely different. They will sit on your test results for an entire week. I have friends who completed the same process and received results the same day. This place seems disorganized, and I wish we had gone elsewhere.

It is now Monday, a week and a half after the analysis and 5 days after we were told we would receive the results. We still have nothing. We have been trying to conceive for four years, and this clinic experience has been absolutely terrible and heartbreaking. Even providing patients with test results is difficult for them. If we receive the results, we will go to another clinic.

Nurses were available by phone and email to answer every question. All billing information was provided in advance. We have one beautiful IVF baby and another on the way! I have worked as a surrogate with other fertility clinics as well as Ohio IVF and Gift of Life Surrogacy, and without question, this is the best! As a surrogate, I have never felt so supported and cared for. Dr. Shamm, his wife Zein, and his office team are outstanding. After some very traumatic experiences with another clinic and agency, he took time after hours to call me from home to calm my nerves and ease my anxiety. He gave me the confidence to try again, and they made it easy to trust the process. Their entire team genuinely loves what they do, which shows in the compassion and thoughtfulness they demonstrate. His nurses and office staff are wonderful people, and each was essential to my incredible experience. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are the most efficient, kind, caring, and effective team I have ever had the privilege of working with. They are very direct and honest and tell you the truth, which I appreciate. I just completed my first trimester and graduated from the IVF clinic. It is bittersweet because I will miss seeing all their faces!

If I could give zero stars, I would. The only person I would give five stars is the receptionist who communicated with me after scheduling; I believe his name was Alex. My wife and I had a telehealth appointment with Dr. Shamma. The experience was terrible. Do not come to this clinic! Before doing any tests or even meeting us in person, he told us our only option was IVF. He was very dogmatic and strongly argued that my wife's two miscarriages were because she might have an STD, which she does not. He also tried to place all the blame on her genetics, again without conducting any tests or even meeting us. He made us feel deeply ashamed that we had decided to try to conceive before going to the clinic. Then, at the end of the appointment, he made a joke about trying to get a “discount” from my wife's workplace because she was still in uniform. This doctor was extremely unprofessional.

Several years ago, my wife and I came to this clinic as a same-sex couple seeking fertility care. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing and frustrating.
Although I, a white woman, was treated professionally, my wife, a woman of color, was not shown the same respect. There was a stark contrast in how each of us was addressed and acknowledged.
At one point, we were told our treatment plan involved “timed intercourse,” which clearly did not apply to us as a lesbian couple. When I asked the nurse to review the doctor's notes again, they insisted they already had and responded condescendingly rather than with care. When I tried to explain that timed intercourse was not helpful for my wife and me, the nurse talked down to me. We repeatedly had to advocate for ourselves to receive appropriate, informed guidance—something no patient should have to do. The nurse later called me back but never apologized for her rudeness or the error. She insisted that I ship sperm to the clinic. There was no proper plan or schedule. I was told, “Ship it here, and we will figure it out.”
I did not trust this plan, so we chose another clinic. Instead of telling us to try timed intercourse, that clinic genuinely listened and met our needs as a lesbian couple.

Our story has a happy ending however it was not achieved through this clinic. My wife had 2 children from a previous marriage and she got her tubes tied after her second child. She was in a bad marriage and decided that was the best option at the time. Her marriage failed and a few years later we started dating and eventually married. We decided we wanted children together as I had none of my own. We talked to several clinics and Nobody was doing tubal reversals at the time I guess for legal reasons. Ivf was our best option and we chose ivf michigan & ohio fertility centers. We did all the pretests to ensure we were good candidates for ivf. During this process is when doctors started doing tubal reversals again. We spoke to the doctor about this option again and he told us my sperm analysis showed low sperm count and that the tails of my sperm were rounded and therefore we would have little to no chance at conceiving on our own after a successful tubal reversal. So pushed for us to continue with ivf. We applied for many loans to pay for the ivf and only future family loans would finance us with a high interest high payment loan. We started the grueling process of ivf my wife had 14 eggs retrieved 10 were fertilized and only 1 made it to an embryo. We only had 1 shot. The egg transferred ended in miscarriage. We were left devastated and we couldn't possibly afford to start ivf again and the Dr just had an "oh well" attitude even though our world shattered. Still desperately wanting a child we decided to at least explore our options at a different clinic as we were not happy with our whole experience at Michigan & ohio fertility centers. Our new dr looked at my sperm analysis and said there was nothing wrong with my sperm quality and would give us a 75% chance at conceiving on our own after a successful tubal reversal. We did the reversal which is a fraction of the cost of ivf. Less than 10 months later our baby boy was born and we are so I love with him. This is truly the happiest ive ever been but the financial strain that ivf has put on our family has been difficult. The Dr at Michigan & ohio fertility centers pushed ivf on us when we clearly had a better option i guess it was a bigger payoff for him. We left Michigan & ohio fertility centers heartbroken with grief and financially ruined it was truly the biggest mistake of our lives choosing this clinic.

They canceled the appointment without notice. My husband had an appointment on Monday and emailed his information and insurance card as requested. They confirmed receipt, and on the Friday before the appointment I picked up a specimen cup for his test. When he arrived Monday, they said they had canceled the appointment Thursday afternoon because the email did not include the front of his insurance card. The front desk representative opened the email and somehow found both sides of the card there. They did not think it necessary to contact us or even mention it when I picked up the cup on Friday, a full day after they had canceled his appointment. Worse, they accused my husband of lying, saying he had not received the specimen cup and paperwork from them but had obtained them elsewhere. Their incompetence left me disgusted and shocked.

Infertility is painful, and choosing the right fertility clinic is essential. The IVF clinic in Sylvania, Michigan, is one I highly recommend. Dr. Sharma was wonderful. He explained every treatment option in detail and was refreshingly candid. He shared his recommendation but reassured us that the final choice was ours. IVF involves many elements and frequent clinic visits, and Dr. Sharma and his excellent team gave us the best possible experience. Because we visited several times a week, the staff became like a second family. They truly knew us and treated us as individuals, not just patients. Peyton was consistently wonderful. She answered my questions clearly and concisely, explained complex matters in an accessible way, and ensured I felt comfortable at every visit. She made IVF much easier for my husband and me. IVF is not easy, but choosing this clinic made the process so smooth that it was all worthwhile.

Becoming pregnant through IVF was not easy, but the center's careful planning, time, coordination, and attentive care made every moment more meaningful. I cannot count all the questions, emails, and phone calls I directed to them, but they responded promptly and thoroughly every time and reassured me that they wanted me to feel as comfortable as possible.

This place is a trap.
After we experienced several recurrent miscarriages, our OB-GYN referred us here.
We were scheduled for a “consultation.” They told us our insurance would not cover most services and that the consultation would cost more than $200.
The consultation itself was a joke. The doctor began by asking whether we knew how common recurrent miscarriage was. Our OB-GYN had assured us that it was common, so we answered, “Common.” The doctor replied, “No, no, no. It is extremely rare. Fewer than 5% of women worldwide have this problem.” His tone showed no compassion. My wife cried for the next two days because this “doctor” made her feel that everything was her fault.
The doctor quickly went over possible ways to conceive and said he fully expected us to need IVF, even though he had not reviewed any data or laboratory results.
We desperately wanted to succeed, so we continued.
Suddenly, we were being asked to take steps that cost money, with no transparency about the fees.
I practically had to beg to get the prices.
It felt like a well-oiled system designed to push people into the IVF trap as quickly as possible.
I can understand the costs and other issues. They are the same everywhere in the country.
What I cannot forgive is Dr. Sharma's complete lack of empathy when speaking with a woman who had just undergone a miscarriage procedure.
Shame on you!

IVF is an extremely difficult, long, emotional journey, but Dr. Shamma made it worthwhile. He is highly knowledgeable and has one of the nation's highest success rates compared with other IVF clinics/doctors. He predicted 30–40 eggs because of my PCOS and high AMH; I doubted him but retrieved 43. He said I had a 75% chance of successful implantation with a genetically normal embryo because I was only 30. I doubted this because it far exceeded the national average, but again he was right. I became pregnant after one IVF cycle, close to his prediction of about 1.25 cycles. Thanks to his excellent protocol, I am now 32 weeks pregnant and due to have a baby boy on April 1. He took many extra steps to improve implantation odds, and it succeeded on the first attempt. My husband and I are profoundly grateful that he made our dream of parenthood come true. Although he and my nurses were exceptional, some front-office staff could be friendlier and more compassionate. Simple greetings, smiles, and questions about your day were rare from most front-office staff/phlebotomists, which is why I removed one star. These things matter when you are emotionally vulnerable.
The front office was nevertheless professional and transparent about costs and obtained required prior authorizations, so there were no surprise bills. Some policies seemed strict given lower infection rates, such as excluding an unvaccinated partner despite a negative COVID test. The hardest part was my husband not being there because he was not fully vaccinated. Otherwise, I highly recommend IVF Michigan to achieve the ultimate goal: a baby. Although busy, I disagree that Dr. Shamma is motivated only by money. When prompted, he answered thoroughly, explained things well, and seemed genuinely delighted by my pregnancy. He is excellent at his work and will always be a true blessing to our family.

Dr. Fayek Shamma, together with his wife Zein Shamma, co-owner of Gift of Life Surrogacy, and his IVF MI and OH practices, approved our surrogate and transferred our only embryo. After our surrogate miscarried, we learned she had a chronic history of endometriosis, adenomyosis, and cysts for more than 6 months. On 1/3/24, Shamma told my husband and me that our surrogate had a beautiful, gynecologically perfect lining; later, after 10 years as a gynecologist, she said she needed a complete hysterectomy. We wrongly lost our child because we would never have chosen her. The Shamma family is committing fraud. They also kept our money after insurance paid—double dipping. His wife then refused to rematch us or issue a refund. We reported them to the OH and MI boards. Learning this after losing our child devastated me. It took nine months to write this because of overwhelming grief and anxiety. Do not use this agency if you need support and compassion. They only want money—greed! Their sole response was for their lawyer to disgustingly accuse me of defaming them. No lawyer can order you to go away without filing a court motion. I beg them to take this to court so a judge can hear what they are doing. I have a 6-year statute of limitations. I worked in medical malpractice, PI, and criminal defense for more than 15 years. I want justice and a refund. I also have free-speech rights to state true and accurate facts. The Shamma family took $125,000 from us and left us with a dead daughter because of greed. Run!
