In March 2024, I had surgery at the ENT clinic. Ten days later, I returned to have blood clots removed. Within 24 hours I developed a fever. 'It is a virus,' the doctor said. I returned to the health center, but the surgeon pretended not to see me while I waited. He seemed angry that I had a fever. I had severe chest pain and shortness of breath, but this did not concern him. I spent 22 days at home with a fever while taking Augmentin and Avelox. 'It is a mistake,' they insisted. I eventually entered a public hospital emergency department with a temperature of 39.5°C and fluid in my sinuses, lungs, heart, and ribs. I was hospitalized for three months, and recovery took several more months.

This is the worst private hospital. From doctors and secretaries to patient transporters, staff behaved and communicated terribly despite the large amount I paid. Based on my experience, I advise everyone not to choose this hospital.

I arrived at Hygeia in 2021/12 for knee replacement surgery with Dr. Dretakis. Imagine my surprise when, in the operating room, I saw him wearing a white coat over a suit and tie while a stranger approached to perform the surgery. Because of the language barrier, I could not object quickly enough, and within seconds I lost consciousness. I have had pain in the operated joint for years since the procedure. I was cynically deceived by Dr. Dretakis, who used me as practice material for his assistant. Be cautious with this doctor!

I want to thank Dr. Ilias Karaiskos and Dr. Karavasilis Theodoros for their interest in my husband's condition, their scientific approach, and the humanity and warmth shown by these excellent, ethical, and professional doctors. Simply saying thank you is not enough.

Yesterday, August 30, 2024, I went to the emergency department with symptoms of a viral infection and asked to see an internist. I reported my symptoms to the nurse, who checked my blood pressure, temperature, and so on. After consulting the internist, he offered two choices: go directly to ENT—though I reasonably wondered whether ENT would listen to me—or be examined by the internist and have tests ordered. Have you ever heard of an internist referring someone directly to ENT without examining or listening to them simply because they were coughing? Even at the worst public hospital, I would receive a better examination. Mr. Papatheodorou, the internist, was clearly bored and acted very self-important, as if examining me were a favor. The examination lasted only two minutes: after our discussion, he briefly listened to my back and looked at my throat. He concluded that I had an infection and would order tests, most of which I knew private insurance covered. The front desk quoted €320 and said insurance would not cover it. I replied that the internist should write the orders so I could have the tests at a diagnostic center. Mr. Papatheodorou said he did not issue prescriptions and that I should see my family doctor. I asked them to close my file and went to Mitera for examination. The nurses and ENT service there were excellent; they routinely issue prescriptions in the emergency department and performed blood tests covered by my insurance. Stay away from HYGEIA. A public hospital or another private hospital would be better.

One star is too many. Everyone there acts self-important, and my experience with the cardiac surgery doctors was terrible. My mother recently underwent valve replacement and sustained brain damage. They told the family to give her time and that she would recover because it was psychological, but after many tests and admission to a public hospital, a medical error during surgery was finally confirmed. They only knew how to take our money and disappear after treating us badly when we raised concerns and clearly wanting to get rid of us. When my mother had a seizure and was admitted through the emergency department, the assistant surgeon I contacted was traveling and had turned off his phone. We never received an explanation from HYGEIA or the outside doctors. They charged €420 for several hours while she lay on a bed outside the emergency department, then sent us away. The nursing staff also seemed incompetent: on her first day they threw away her phone with the sheets, and on the day before discharge a nurse gave her double the correct dose of a medication. My advice: leave.

I want to express my complete disappointment, dissatisfaction, and anger toward this hospital's head of cardiac surgery and his team. A close relative underwent valve-repair surgery by this surgeon. The day before, he assured us everything would go well and that there would be daily follow-up. Six hours after surgery, the lead surgeon told us everything had gone smoothly and that the patient would move to a room the next day after 24 hours of intensive-care monitoring. Instead, our relative remained intubated in intensive care for six days without communication. On leaving the unit on day seven, he was completely unable to speak or communicate, with no support. After we struggled to find the surgeon, who disappeared immediately after surgery, the anesthesiologist responded sarcastically and criticized me for my panic and concern. The assistant surgeon also spoke condescendingly and repeatedly told us to give the patient time. Only when he had a seizure did they understand the seriousness. The remainder of our ordeal occurred at a public hospital. Because of extra hospitalization caused by their own error, they demanded additional payment. Ultimately, the HYGEIA surgery was not successful. A cerebral arterial embolism caused serious complications and deprived the brain of oxygen. A doctor may argue that surgical complications can occur, but they require immediate, correct treatment, information and communication with immediate family, and above all professionalism. In our case, we received none of this. The only certainty is that our loved one survived.

The hospital is good, but the young security guard at the entrance needs training in proper conduct. He cursed at a taxi driver using inappropriate language in front of my mother, which does not match the hospital's name or reputation. This happened this morning.

Disgusting. I received no benefit. I went to the public hospital KAT, where they answered all my questions and explained how to address my problem. So much for a private hospital.

The worst! Stay away! They sent my sexually transmitted infection test results to the health department after my HIV screening came back positive. I usually get tested every year because the company I work for requires it, and I think it would be great if everyone were tested annually, especially sexually active people every 6 months. They later sent the result to the reference center (MOTHER HOSPITAL), where it came back negative. They called to tell me my test was positive, but the result was negative, and nothing was done. Do not hesitate to get another test! Of course, I had a molecular DNA test, which was negative. When I discussed this with the specialist microbiologist, she gave me no clear answer and said it was not an error but a 'cross-reaction.' I also asked to see the license approval for their machine and the date of its last inspection. Of course, they changed the subject and tried to cover up the situation.

On January 17, I had surgery for a meningioma. An outstanding doctor and his excellent team made it possible for me to return home today. I can walk and have full movement. The hospital is wonderful and the service is excellent.
    Jan 20, 2025
Although there are some excellent specialists whom I would rate 5/5, they have lost control of their pricing. The surgery was completed and insurance covered all costs, yet they still demanded several thousand dollars in additional cash for other doctors who worked during the procedure.

    Jan 26, 2025
Worse than the public system. My girlfriend and I sat there while they timed a 5-minute examination of her leg injury. In the end, the doctor's diagnosis was completely wrong because her examination was also incomplete. They do not tell you the total cost from the beginning and start ordering tests that the doctor's examination supposedly indicates. Not to mention the diagnosis: €108 for the doctor plus €315 for 4 X-rays!! Of course, I did not have the X-rays, but I paid €108 for Davadziliki's diagnosis. P.S. I had to go to a private hospital because KAT had one person on duty. We waited there for several hours, and our issue was still not resolved.

Trust public hospitals and health plan providers. Unfortunately, private hospitals offer incentives to doctors who have become marketers rather than physicians. To retain these privileges, they must bring a certain number of “customers” to the hospitals they use. This was rarely discussed before, but now the pie has grown and everyone wants a piece, even if some do not deserve it.

I gave a rating of 5 because of my experience with the MRI and CT scan services. As someone with claustrophobia, I was very worried that I would not be able to complete the procedures, but the staff went above and beyond to make me comfortable. They were incredibly supportive, patient, and accommodating in every possible way. !

The worst cardiac surgeon in the cardiology department, Mr. El...! They killed our loved one, who went in for mitral valve repair surgery... He said it was nothing, just a matter of a few days, and kept calling our loved one every three days so he would not lose him. Then he asked for extra money for the surgery because this supposedly great valve specialist ran into difficulties. The result was that our loved one—our brother, our godfather, our whole life—never woke up. After a week in intensive care, he passed away... I sincerely hope they receive the punishment they deserve.

The worst clinic and the worst cardiac surgeon in the cardiology department, Mr. Eliop...! They killed our loved one, who went in for mitral valve repair surgery... He said it was nothing, just a matter of a few days, and called our loved one every three days so he would not lose him as a client. He pressured him into surgery, saying it would change his life... In the end, he asked for extra money for the surgery because this supposedly great valve specialist ran into difficulties. The result was that our loved one—our brother, our uncle, our godfather, our whole life—never woke up. After a week in intensive care, he passed away... I sincerely hope they receive the punishment they deserve.

If you care about your loved one's life, stay away from this clinic. My father was admitted with COVID-19 and a serious pulmonary history, which the clinic knew because he had undergone surgery there. With an oxygen level of 73%, their first priority was not immediate specialist care but every preventive test possible, apparently to increase the bill rather than protect his health. Had anyone reviewed the results, recognized the severity, and acted promptly, my father might have been saved. Instead of reasonable monitoring by an infectious disease specialist, his care was assigned to a pathologist, Ms. K_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _, as though he were simply another flu patient. Despite persistent fever, declining oxygen, and obvious severe infection, he was isolated for a week without meaningful intervention. When they finally recognized that he was worsening, their “solution” was an oxygen mask. When that failed, he was transferred to intensive care, but management did not change. The internist who assured us everything was fine ultimately decided he needed intubation, not because she had exhausted all options, but because he was “uncooperative.” In what medical literature is intubation a punishment rather than a last resort? The entire course was criminal. Had they done their job from the beginning, valued the test results, and provided appropriate treatment promptly, the situation would not have become irreversible. As if that were not enough, when payment was due, no detailed statement was provided, either that day or later, despite repeated requests. “The system does not work that way,” we were told. Yet that same system counted and charged for every syringe. This clinic does not provide care; it deals in life and death. If you care about your people's health, do not even let them pass by.

I want to publicly thank Mr. Patakos, Mr. Koutouzis, Mr. Adamos, and the entire intensive care unit staff for their extraordinary lifesaving efforts, which ultimately saved his life. The medical care and attention were of the highest standard. Words cannot express our gratitude to the entire Hygeia Hospital. It is by far the best hospital in Greece. We sincerely thank you for everything!

The staff were polite, and the service was generally good. However, being asked afterward for a “small envelope,” especially when substantial payment is already available through private insurance, is tragic at best. This represents a serious ethical problem at a private hospital where professionalism should be expected. Truly terrible.
    Jul 28, 2025
The rude and indifferent attitude of staff at every service and information point and in the call center is infuriating. We are charged prices comparable to Attica and Ioannina, so please provide service to match, all right?

Good evening. I urge all patients with type A or B aortic dissection not to go to Iliopoulos; this doctor is dangerous. He told me my husband's type B dissection surgery had a 95% success rate. Midway through surgery, he took the receipt and left. My husband died from uncontrolled bleeding after the doctor left two nonspecialists who repeatedly called him to return while he instructed them by phone. Please think twice before going...

I had an excellent examination with Ms. Pepi Hadjispasou at HYGEIA Hospital. It was thorough and attentive: she performed iris and uveitis examinations, a dilated fundus examination, and other specialized tests. At every step, she clearly explained what she was examining and why, answered all my questions, and showed exemplary courtesy and respect. She combines excellent scientific training with a compassionate approach to care—a true gem of medicine and HYGEIA Hospital. I highly recommend her.

I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the team at Hygeia's Fourth Cardiac Surgery Clinic, especially two outstanding physicians—Professor of Cardiac Surgery Dimitris Iliopoulos and thoracic surgeon Nikolaos Skizas—who successfully performed open-heart surgery on our father. Their scientific expertise, calm demeanor, and compassionate care at every stage gave us strength and confidence during such a difficult time. We sincerely thank them for their impeccable care and professionalism. Our heartfelt thanks also go to the nursing staff on the eighth floor for accompanying us with love, kindness, and strength. Their care reflected not only professionalism but genuine warmth and humanity.

The doctors were good, but the nurses were terrible. Their behavior and bedside manner were appalling, and they were disrespectful and hurtful toward an elderly woman. A cockroach was crawling in the hallway, and the cleaning staff completely ignored it. Our mother suffered physical and emotional abuse.

I want to warn you about that doctor, if Aristotle Pano is even his real name. He told us that my 46-year-old husband was only having a routine procedure and that he never left the operating room. Unbelievable! He did not even come out to update us.
    Oct 29, 2025
This is a textbook example of commercialized medicine. Tests here cost three to four times what they do elsewhere or at a public hospital, and everything is overpriced. Valuable doctors are sacrificed for profit while the company that owns the institution sees only numbers. The only difference from public care is hospitalization: this place resembles an upscale hotel, while tests and diagnoses are seriously delayed!
    Oct 25, 2025
My father was hospitalized several times through the NHS, as was my mother. Over time, it has become a care and medical institution focused solely on maximizing profit. Apart from the hotel-like facilities, medical care is below average and delays are excessive, which is disappointing given the fees. To avoid misunderstanding, I do not think the doctors are poor, but the system ultimately undermines them. They are certainly no better than public-sector doctors. My mother has type 2 diabetes, and whenever she is admitted for another condition, her glucose control is worse than when she arrived. Her diabetes doctor is rarely informed, and each medical team works independently with little clinical collaboration, if that is even possible. I wonder how she endures it. This was once an excellent care institution, but no longer. In my experience, two or three other private institutions have the same problem. Public facilities offer stronger medical care but poorer nursing due to inadequate infrastructure. At least there you are treated as a patient, not as a wallet or insurance customer.

    Dec 16, 2025
A relative of mine had surgery here. The staff provided very good, courteous service. The rooms were in good condition. I gave three stars because of the extremely rude young surgical assistant, who repeatedly called the patient "chubby" and said his weight had made the surgery difficult, even though he was not excessively overweight. This was appalling behavior for a young professional. He should learn how to speak to people before learning how to operate, and the hospital should screen its doctors and staff.

I also extend my highest respect and sincere thanks to the outstanding nursing staff on the eighth floor. They supported us with knowledge, calmness, kindness, and genuine compassion. Their care was not only professional but also warm and heartfelt. We are sincerely grateful for their exceptional care and support.

Front desk staff, why ask for an insurance policy number if insurance covers nothing in an emergency? The consultation costs €110, and additional tests are required. This is completely misleading... The total is €300. Free. Even with IKA and private insurance, you still have to pay out of pocket. And you have no nurses, because no one helps people who need assistance. You send us here, then there... You are all...

On Thursday, July 24, 2025, my doctor recommended that I be admitted for intravenous antibiotic treatment. I provided my national insurance number so my insurance could cover the treatment, and I was admitted. On Saturday, July 26, 2025, after I had spent two nights in the hospital, I received a call from the hospital. They told me my insurance did not cover the treatment. How much did that mean? €5,329.67. When I asked the admissions department why they had not also told me that my insurance would not cover the treatment, they said they did not know. They truly did not know. So now I have to try to save €5,329.67 to pay for intravenous antibiotics. I feel terrible for patients who seek care without insurance.

I recently visited HYGEIA Hospital and would once again like to express my deepest gratitude and warmest congratulations to the great scientist Mr. I. Kalavritinos. I had the privilege of undergoing surgery with him one year ago. I also thank his two excellent colleagues, Mr. Anastasios and Mr. Galanis, whose kindness, smiles, and consistently impeccable care for patients were exceptional! I also thank my dear Professor D. Linos, who introduced me to Mr. Kalavitinos and helped me make a full recovery and regain my life! I wish them all the best!

An unacceptable experience. This hospital feels less like a medical institution and more like an exploitative business. I was shocked and outraged that the cost of the same procedure could be three or four times higher when an insurance company was involved, while self-pay patients paid very little. This clearly shows a complete lack of price transparency and appears to be a way of inflating charges for profit. Beyond the financial issue, this practice is unethical and raises questions about whether they truly care for patients or only care about money. Health is not a commodity, and behavior like this seriously damages trust in the healthcare system. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone seeking honesty, transparency, and respect.

What an expensive exercise. The conduct and reasoning of this private hospital made me wonder whether I was paying hotel rates or paying because they had gathered the ‘best’ doctors. Yes, the equipment is good, everything is clean, and so on. But am I paying for that, or for the doctors' high fees? And for serious medical problems, can they really do better than larger, more experienced public hospitals with less advanced equipment? P.S. I am still grieving the loss of my wife. Those ‘excellent’ doctors may matter, but they come here only for the money.

If our country had a real prosecutor's office, this ‘hospital’ would have been shut down long ago. Do not even consider using it—for any reason!

Going to Hygeia is the worst possible choice. I had three MRIs, was hospitalized for three days, saw many doctors, and paid a tremendous amount of money, yet no one noticed that I had a pelvic fracture!! I have been suffering for a year. I wish appointments at public hospitals were easier to obtain. They are the best and have the best doctors. Hygeia has gathered all the failures!!!! They only care about your money. SHAMEFUL!!! Do not even walk past it.....

Excellent! In just one hour and ten minutes, I registered, completed triage, saw an orthopedist, had X-rays, saw the orthopedist again, and received a diagnosis and prescription. The entire process was conducted in clear, easy-to-understand English, and every staff member was courteous and respectful. Special thanks to Dr. Panayiotis Papadopoulos!

I had an excellent experience at Hygeia Hospital. From the moment I arrived, I experienced the medical team’s professionalism, kindness, and genuine care. The doctors were highly skilled and thorough, patiently explaining every detail and ensuring that I felt comfortable and informed throughout treatment. The nursing staff were equally outstanding—warm, patient, helpful, and reassuring. The hospital itself was clean, modern, and well organized. Everything proceeded smoothly, and coordination among departments made the entire experience efficient and stress-free. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the care I received and highly recommend Hygeia Hospital to anyone seeking first-rate medical care in a professional and compassionate setting.
