Founded in 1866, University Hospitals serves the needs of patients through an integrated network of 21 hospitals (including five joint ventures), more than 50 health centers and outpatient facilities, and over 200 physician offices in 16 counties throughout northern Ohio.

Additionally, University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital is recognized as one of the nation’s leading children’s hospitals, ranking in nine pediatric specialties, and University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center, is part of the National Cancer Institute-designated Case Comprehensive Cancer Center (the nation's highest designation).

The Science of Health

As one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers, University Hospitals is home to some of the most prestigious clinical and research programs in the nation, with more than 3,200 active clinical trials and research studies underway. Our health system’s flagship quaternary care academic medical center, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, has been affiliated with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine since the late 1800s, as well as Northeast Ohio Medical University, University of Oxford (England) and the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. University Hospitals is also affiliated with Harrington Discovery Institute, which engages top scholars internationally in accelerating the development of medicines for unmet needs.

Today, this collaboration forms one of the largest biomedical research centers in the nation. By providing excellent patient care, innovating new treatment protocols, and training the physicians of tomorrow, University Hospitals influences and advances standards of care both locally and worldwide. University Hospitals is a national leader, recognized for playing a vital role in helping to create a better future for our communities. Founded as a charity hospital for the sick and disabled in 1866, University Hospitals soon grew to include a children’s hospital and numerous community hospitals and care centers. Together, they formed University Hospitals, a mission-driven, nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing health and well-being.
