The “Shady Grove” organization is like buying a timeshare. They use bait-and-switch tactics. They will not disclose the final cost of the entire process. They draw you in with videos, genetic testing, and unnecessary appointments, and only after you have wasted all that time and money on testing and spent months being led along do they finally tell you that the entire process will cost $37000.

Alex Brouard was incredibly helpful with my insurance, medications, and everything related to the process. It was physically and emotionally exhausting, financially stressful, and challenging, but she made everything much easier. She truly went above and beyond, even offering to help with other issues until everything was resolved. She also followed up several times to make sure everything was going smoothly, which I greatly appreciated. Thank you so much, Alex 🙏🙏🙏

Words cannot express my gratitude to Dr. Garde, SGF coordinator Danielle, and the entire Shady Grove Fertility team. From my first appointment until I graduated from SGF pregnant with my first daughter, they consistently treated me with the highest level of professionalism, compassion, empathy, and care.
Infertility is an emotional and vulnerable journey, and this team made every step manageable, supportive, and hopeful. Dr. Garde's expertise and thoughtful attention kept me reassured and confident throughout. Coordinator Danielle was also outstanding—always responsive, organized, patient, thorough, and kind. She ensured I fully understood every stage of testing and IVF, from medications to injections, and regularly checked how I felt to ensure I was comfortable and reassured.
Every staff member I met—nurses, medical assistants, front desk staff, and the embryology team—treated me with warmth, respect, and genuine care. Their attention to detail, organization, and communication were exceptional. I never felt rushed, confused, or overlooked.
What truly distinguishes SGF is its empathy. The team understands that this journey is more than a medical process; it is about hope, dreams, and building a family. Their gentle care, emotional support, and constant encouragement meant everything to me. Because of their dedication, expertise, and unwavering support, I have now achieved my lifelong dream of becoming a mother.

If you are willing to do your own research, prepare, and advocate for yourself, SGF will be an ideal partner.
I am currently receiving treatment at SGF Fairfax. Although minor issues inevitably arise, I can confidently say that the SGF team has incredible expertise and provides an excellent community service. Be prepared for unexpected issues such as insurance problems or physical responses; SGF is very good at adapting.
Fast, convenient communication is SGF's greatest strength. Messages I send through the portal are usually answered within 24 hours and rarely take 48. Scheduling is easy, and the front desk staff work hard to accommodate last-minute needs.
Finances are complex throughout healthcare. My insurer made mistakes and created obstacles at several stages of treatment. My financial counselor, Kimberly O., is amazing. She communicates quickly and effectively among me, my insurer, and my clinical team. She is very patient and responds remarkably quickly to both routine requests and unexpected urgent issues.
My doctor is Dr. Garde, and my experience has been very good so far. I hope to share more details after I ‘graduate’ from SGF. I especially want to recognize the nursing team: Danielle and Jacqueline are angels. They went above and beyond to help with unexpected situations, and their level of care amazed me. The clinic is busy and fast-paced, yet they remain attentive to every patient, demonstrating exceptional skill and selfless compassion.
I hope to update this review with more details soon :)
Update: I ‘graduated’ from SGF in April 2025 and went on to have a healthy pregnancy and delivery! My sincere thanks to Danielle and Dr. Garde, both of whom have outstanding skill, expertise, and selfless compassion.

Words cannot express my gratitude to the Shady Grove team, especially Michelle. This was my third IVF egg retrieval and Michelle's second time as my nurse, and once again she made a profound difference.
Michelle is kind, empathetic, and deeply reassuring. During a process that can be stressful and emotionally intense, she always makes you feel genuinely heard, supported, and at ease. Her calm presence and sincere care grounded me and brought tremendous comfort at every stage.
Because of Michelle and her attentive care, my experience was far better than expected. I am sincerely grateful to her and the entire Shady Grove team.

My doctor, Dr. Emily Barnard, is wonderful, and I could not ask for anyone better. I am truly grateful to my entire care team.
There was a billing issue, and I filed a complaint. Susan Allen, the director of patient care, called me the next day and resolved it. They were also very receptive to suggestions for improving the patient experience. I am glad Shady Grove maintains high-quality care and prioritizes the patient experience.

I am very disappointed with Shady Grove Fertility (Fairfax) because of serious billing and insurance issues.
Before starting egg freezing, I called to confirm that they accepted my insurance and was told they did. After treatment began, their financial department said my insurance was not accepted, forcing me to pay entirely out of pocket.
Shady Grove Fertility never accepted my insurance and required me to self-pay for all services. Therefore, I had to pay for everything without insurance.
But one year later, I received:
• A 2024 bill for as much as $3,900, claiming my insurance did not cover the services. After I explained the situation, they finally corrected it to $2,000 a month later.
What are they doing!!! This is fraud.
My contract also clearly stated a $65 monthly storage fee, but I was charged $80. Worse, starting in July 2025, I was automatically charged twice each month ($160 total).
Patients should check every charge carefully. There is no transparency or accountability.

My wife and I had an excellent experience at Shady Grove Fertility. The Fairfax office is well organized and truly provides one-stop care. The nurses and staff are kind, professional, and highly compassionate, supporting us through both good and bad news.
Dr. Garde is outstanding—attentive, caring, and highly skilled. We are very grateful for the care we received and delighted to be expecting our daughter in November 2025. We highly recommend Shady Grove Fertility and Dr. Garde.

I am immensely grateful to Dr. Eric Levens and his outstanding clinic team for guiding me successfully through IVF. IVF is physically and emotionally difficult, but the team made it much easier. They were consistently patient, supportive, and thorough in answering my questions and addressing my concerns. I was very pleased with the care team for my hysterosalpingogram (HSG)! Monique in triage was thoughtful and warm and put me at ease. She was kind and approachable throughout, making it easy to ask questions. My technologist Sue was also welcoming and attentive, always smiling and patiently explaining what to expect at each step. My doctor Amy was friendly and answered every question I asked. The entire procedure was very quick, and they were all attentive and caring. I was very satisfied and truly felt supported. Sue wished me well before I left, which meant a lot to me!

There are no words big enough to express what Shady Grove has meant to me. Every single person I encountered—doctors, nurses, coordinators—treated me with a level of kindness I will never forget. They held my hand through the hardest moments, celebrated the small victories with me, and reminded me that I wasn’t alone. They didn’t just care for me medically; they cared for me emotionally, like family.
Walking into my fertility journey, I carried so much fear and vulnerability. But from the very beginning, Dr. Gannon made me feel seen, heard, and truly understood. Her compassion, and dedication gave me a sense of peace I didn’t know I could feel during such an emotional time. She didn’t just guide me medically—she guided me with genuine care and humanity. I will forever be grateful for the way she supported me through every step.
And Nurse Sarah… she became a source of strength and comfort on the days when I felt fragile. Her kindness and gentle reassurance lifted me more times than she’ll ever know.

I cannot say enough good things about Shady Grove Fertility in Fairfax, Virginia. From the moment I entered, I felt warmth, kindness, and genuine care. The entire team—from reception to nurses and staff—was wonderful. Everyone went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable, supported, and truly cared for throughout the process.
The nurses were compassionate and patient, always taking time to explain everything and offer reassurance when needed. The front-desk staff were equally excellent—welcoming, attentive, and always smiling. You can genuinely feel how much they care about everyone who enters.

I had an excellent experience at Shady Grove! The staff were all warm and friendly, and I would absolutely recommend it. Dr. Levens was wonderful. He carefully answered every question and was helpful and caring. I especially want to highlight my experience with nurse Adriane, who was amazing. She went above and beyond to ensure I received all necessary care and kept everything organized. During the hardest period of my life, she truly helped me and changed my life. I am very grateful that she was my nurse and for everything she did for me!

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Levens and all the nurses and techs at all the monitoring appointments. When we conceived both times, their joy for our family was so palpable. I had a very poor experience with a phlebotomist on Sunday, August 17, 2025. 1. She placed the tourniquet too close to the blood-draw site, which obstructed needle insertion and left the area unsterilized. 2. She inserted the needle too forcefully, causing bruising at and around the site. 3. She kept sniffling and appeared ill but was not wearing a mask. Overall, very unprofessional!!
This clinic is partly owned by a private equity firm. The problem is that private equity firms focus on annual profit growth rather than staff or patient well-being. Everyone seems overworked and irritable. Dissatisfied employees and doctors lead to dissatisfied patients. This clinic will only get worse.

I am a patient of Dr. Levens at SGF Fairfax, and I highly recommend this clinic and team. From the front desk staff to the phlebotomists and every nurse, each person is invaluable. We often joked that we came here more often than we saw our family, but we could not have found a better "family." The SGF Fairfax team made the entire infertility treatment process smoother and more reassuring.

Dr. Levens and the Shady Grove team are truly angels on earth. Over the past 13 years, I worked with two different fertility teams while trying for our second baby. With the other teams, I always felt overlooked. How could they move so many patients through so quickly while investing so little in them? At Shady Grove, I never felt rushed. At our first appointment, Dr. Levens was thorough, kind, and honest about our chances of becoming parents through different paths. We ultimately chose donor eggs because they gave us the best chance of becoming parents again. We had several detours, underwent a few procedures to make sure everything was right, and canceled several cycles because we were not where we needed to be. Dr. Levens and Stephanie were responsive and always explained what was happening. They made every step and what came next easy to understand. Dr. Levens always communicated with genuine compassion, whether the news was good or bad. He put my family ahead of his schedule. We graduated this week, and I cannot thank every one of them enough. Do not hesitate to try again or start over. The right team makes all the difference.

The information our coordinator/nurse sent my wife through the portal was often factually incorrect and even contradicted the doctor's information. We frequently had to send multiple messages to get a response about this very important part of our care, and replies were always significantly delayed.
Billing was a complete disaster. It was nearly impossible to reach anyone except through the portal, responses took days, and they almost never addressed the actual issue. Once, when we finally managed to escalate a problem, we went from being told we had overpaid and had a large credit to owing a substantial amount within days. This was clearly not because of treatment, but because they could not provide accurate information. It also took us several literal months to finally receive an itemized bill. I am still trying to piece together the 17-page statement, which I suspect is intended to overwhelm us.
The doctor was nice, although it was painful to learn after several cycles that research suggested trying a different approach. I do not know whether it would have worked better, but come on. This is painful enough already.
I do not know how many other providers are within a reasonable distance, but given how expensive IVF usually is, it is best to find somewhere that will not take advantage of you. Good luck.

During my IVF treatment, SGF gave me the wrong medication midway through the cycle. Although the doctor informed me of the error, they did not apologize or meaningfully acknowledge what I experienced as a person during an already vulnerable treatment process. Ethically, this is concerning. Doctors follow the principle of 'do no harm,' and although mistakes happen, failing to acknowledge or apologize for them only compounds the harm.
When I asked them to recognize the emotional impact this had on me, they only reimbursed the medication cost—nothing more. I had to inject a medication I never consented to and would never have used unless absolutely necessary. This experience mattered to me, but it seemed not to matter to those providing my care.
At times, I felt less like a person and more like a number in a system. When something goes wrong, you may find yourself treated the same way.
If you have had a similar experience at SGF, I encourage you to speak up. Leave a review. File a complaint with the Virginia Board of Medicine. Consider contacting the Virginia Attorney General's Office so they are aware of the clinic's pattern of care. Every voice matters; together, we can make the system more accountable and humane.

This place was a disaster. I was treated by Dr. Rachana V. Garde at Shady Grove Fertility in Fairfax, and my care disregarded patient safety and medical judgment. Despite laboratory results showing a follicle-stimulating hormone level of 2.88 ng/mL and estradiol of 5,403 pg/mL, both clearly indicating a high risk of OHSS, Dr. Garde ignored the warnings, made no adjustments, and continued treatment. I was not warned, protected, or offered alternatives. As a result, I developed severe OHSS, experienced unbearable pain, and had to call 911 in the middle of the night. I was taken to the emergency room, diagnosed with a blood clot, and received emergency care. After retrieval, I was told most of my follicles had already ovulated, meaning the cycle was not only painful but also poorly managed and ineffective. The emotional trauma, physical suffering, and thousands of dollars in avoidable medical costs continue to affect my life. It took me more than a month to gather the strength to write this review. Whenever I think about the neglect, silence, and resulting harm, I relive one of the worst experiences of my life. No patient should experience this.

Dr. Levens is wonderful! Caring, compassionate, and kind—the list goes on. Although I felt anxious before the appointment, I felt welcomed and comfortable throughout. Given the circumstances, it was an excellent experience overall.
