Dr. Sharara received his B.S in Chemistry in 1982, and his M.D in 1986 from the American University of Beirut. Our Virginia fertility doctor was on the Dean’s honor list during his premedical and medical studies. He completed his residency in OB/GYN at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC in 1991, followed by a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility from 1991 to 1994 at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD (which had only one spot per year at the time).

Fertility Center & University Professor

He became an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois and Michael Reese Fertility Center post fellowship but returned to the DC metro area as an Assistant Professor and head of IVF program for the University of Maryland in July 1996. He was promoted to Associate Professor before his departure from the University of Maryland in 2000. Dr. Sharara was an Associate Clinical Professor at George Washington University from 2003-2009 and currently is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Clinical Trials  临床试验

Despite his significant clinical and administrative load, Dr Sharara is still committed to conducting clinical research, and he gives over 30 lectures per year both nationally and internationally. At VCRM, there are few ongoing  clinical trials to improve ART success, AM compared to PM gonadotropin dosing, and for prevention of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), along with protocols to help improve ovarian response in poor responders (DOR). He also is the editor of the new book: Ethnic differences in Fertility and Assisted Reproduction” published July 2013 by Springer.
