Fady I. Sharara, M.D, FACOG, is a Board Certified Reproductive Endocrinologist / Infertility specialist (since 1996), and a Board Certified Obstetrician / Gynecologist (since 1994). Here are some accomplishments of our Virginia fertility doctor.

Dr. Sharara received his B.S in Chemistry in 1982, and his M.D in 1986 from the American University of Beirut. Our Virginia fertility doctor was on the Dean’s honor list during his premedical and medical studies. He completed his residency in OB/GYN at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC in 1991, followed by a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility from 1991 to 1994 at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD (which had only one spot per year at the time).
He became an Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois and Michael Reese Fertility Center post fellowship but returned to the DC metro area as an Assistant Professor and head of IVF program for the University of Maryland in July 1996. He was promoted to Associate Professor before his departure from the University of Maryland in 2000. Dr. Sharara was an Associate Clinical Professor at George Washington University from 2003-2009 and currently is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
Dr Sharara is the founder and Medical Director for the Virginia Center for Reproductive Medicine (VCRM), headquartered in Reston, VA.
Dr Sharara is also a reviewer for Fertility and Sterility and Human Reproduction, the two leading scientific journals in the area of Reproduction, along with Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics, Human Fertility, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Research, Imaging in Medicine, and the Middle East Fertility Society Journal, and Reproductive Sciences.
Dr Sharara has been named one of America’s Who’s Who in Medicine and Health Care every year from 2002 to present, Who’s Who in America in 2004-16, America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists in 2007-2016, and is one of the Lead Physicians Expert Panel. Dr Sharara was named to the editorial board of the Middle East Fertility Society Journal in 2013.
Dr. Sharara has received numerous awards including the following:
Named Top Washington area Top Doctors in Infertility by the Washingtonian magazine continuously since 2003 (last nomination in the March 2016 issue)
Nominated as one of the Washington area Top Doctors in Infertility by the Washington Post Magazine 2011-present.
Nominated as one of Northern Virginia Top Docs in Reproductive Endocrinology for the 5th year in a row (first nominated in the February 2011 issue of Northern Virginia Magazine)
Dr. Sharara was been a member of the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) Practice Committee between 2007-2014.
Dr Sharara also served on the Local Advisory Editorial Board for Fertility and Sterility between 2010-2012, the leading Fertility journal in the field of Infertility and Assisted Reproduction.
Despite his significant clinical and administrative load, Dr Sharara is still committed to conducting clinical research, and he gives over 30 lectures per year both nationally and internationally. At VCRM, there are few ongoing clinical trials to improve ART success, AM compared to PM gonadotropin dosing, and for prevention of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), along with protocols to help improve ovarian response in poor responders (DOR). He also is the editor of the new book: Ethnic differences in Fertility and Assisted Reproduction published July 2013 by Springer.
