Subspecialty fellowship trained in Reproductive Endocrinology and fertility/infertility, Dr. Thompson currently serves as a Board Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In addition, Dr. Thompson has also held many prestigious positions during his career, including Secretary Treasurer, Vice Chairman, and Chairman of the New Mexico Section, District 8, American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, or ACOG. He has been helping patients realize the dream of having children since 1986. Dr. Thompson has received numerous awards due to his dedication and ongoing search for better techniques, practices, and technologies. He founded the first Assisted Reproductive Program in New Mexico.
Experience
After attending the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where he received his medical degree, Dr. Thompson went on to complete his residency training for Obstetrics/Gynecology at the University of Kansas in Wichita. From there, he continued his training with a subspecialty fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
In order to provide his patients with superior, experienced care, Dr. Thompson went on to become certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology where he later became a Diplomat. He also became a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists. He is Subspecialty Fellowship-Trained in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, and is a member of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine as well as a Founding Member of the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART).
Dr. Thompson strives to be a leader in his field in an effort to help more patients ease the pain of infertility.
Experience
Dr. Thompson has founded 3 state of the art facilities which together hold numerous firsts for New Mexico. These include the first frozen embryo pregnancy, first embryo donation, donor egg pregnancy, IVF pregnancy, transvaginal egg retrieval, and first Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
By July of 1993, Dr. Thompson rightly celebrated his 100th child born to parents using in vitro fertilization, and since then there have been countless more pregnancies due to advances in the medical field for assisted reproduction.
Dr. Thompson has been voted “#1 Top Doc” in Reproductive Medicine in Albuquerque the Magazine for 17 consecutive years.
To this date, Dr. Thompson remains focused on new and improved ways to assist patients by means of egg donation, assisted hatching, vitrification, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), preimplantation genetic diagnosis/screening (PGD/PGS), in vitro fertilization (IVF) and analyzing fertility/infertility success rates.
