Dr. Irene Souter, United States
Irene Souter, MD, is an associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) and reproductive biology at Harvard Medical School. She is a reproductive endocrinologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Fertility Center and directs the MGH Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) Program. She earned her medical degree from the University of Athens, completed her OB/GYN residency at the University of Southern California, and completed a clinical fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) at UCLA. Before residency, she completed a research fellowship at USC and worked in international medicine in South Africa.
Dr. Souter maintains a large clinical practice, is dedicated to teaching, and is passionate about clinical outcomes research. She cares for couples with female and male infertility and offers a wide range of treatments, including intrauterine insemination (IUI) with or without ovulation induction, in vitro fertilization (IVF), PGD, oocyte cryopreservation, gamete donation, and third-party reproduction. She also treats polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, recurrent pregnancy loss, congenital uterine abnormalities, fibroids, and polyps. Her clinical practice is at MGH in Boston, Massachusetts.
Her clinical research focuses on i) outcomes of ovulation induction treatment, ii) environmental effects on reproductive health, and iii) PGD. She has coauthored many articles and given numerous national and international presentations. She is active in the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, and several other organizations. As a member of the MGH REI academic faculty and associate director of the REI fellowship program, she is deeply committed to teaching and mentoring OB/GYN residents and fellows.
