Dr. Joseph S. Bird Jr., MD, United States
Dr. Joey Bird initially planned to specialize in retinal surgery, but a rotation with a reproductive endocrinologist while attending the James H. Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University changed his mind. He "fell in love with the patients and with the way a physician becomes part of their story."
Of his work as a fertility specialist, Dr. Bird says, "Every case is interesting and rewarding in its own way. I am never bored." Throughout treatment, he encourages patients to remain hopeful. He says, "A successful outcome requires being able to rely on what you cannot see."
His hobbies span a range of interests, including playing the piano, singing, pickleball, skiing, and, most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren. He often tells his children that if he had known earlier how much fun being a grandparent was, he would have started there. He is also delighted to work professionally with his son Joseph, who recently joined the practice.
