Dr. Rink Murray, United States
Dr. Rink Murray was born in Chattanooga and attended the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine in Memphis. He completed an obstetrics and gynecology residency, followed by a reproductive endocrinology and infertility fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
During his training, he received numerous awards from hospital staff, patients, and residents for his dedication to teaching and for providing excellent, compassionate, and ethical care.
His and his wife’s experience with infertility strongly influenced his decision to become a reproductive endocrinologist.
“In 1997, we learned that we needed in vitro fertilization to conceive. I do not know whether that was a blessing or a curse, but I believe it made me a better doctor. I have sat in the chair where my patients now sit.
I have felt the same despair and understand theirs. Having been through it, I understand what matters most to infertility patients. Direct, honest answers from someone who truly cares can make all the difference.”
His own experiences, questions, and concerns help him anticipate patients’ needs and explain complex concepts in ways they can understand.
After seven years, five failed fresh IVF cycles at different fertility centers, and countless failed frozen cycles, the Murrays finally conceived. They now have two children through IVF.
Outside work, Dr. Rink Murray enjoys spending time with his wife and children, hiking, playing games, or simply relaxing. He also plays tennis and would play more if it did not drive his wife crazy. A history enthusiast, he enjoys biographies and, unusually, the histories of everyday products such as corn, salt, cod, chocolate, coffee, tobacco, and lobster. He even enjoys dancing sometimes.
