Since 1979, Dr. Amos E. Madanes has helped couples facing infertility. As director of Midwest Fertility Center in Chicago and Downers Grove, Illinois, he uses assisted reproductive technologies he developed to help patients pursue parenthood, particularly in cases of male factor infertility.
Education
Dr. Madanes earned his medical degree from Tel Aviv University and completed specialty training in obstetrics and gynecology at Tufts University. With subspecialty certification in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (CREI) from Harvard Medical School, he served as chair of gynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital and director of reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Loyola University before founding Midwest Fertility Center. An innovator in reproductive endocrinology, Dr. Madanes has published articles in scientific journals and contributed to medical textbooks. He achieved the first successful pregnancy through nonsurgical intratubal insemination.

We had a disastrous experience at this clinic. From the beginning, the provider used scare tactics, citing frightening statistics during the initial consultation. However, things did not take a disturbing turn until the second or third appointment. The provider casually inserted words such as “cancer” and “tumor” into the conversation, causing our anxiety to soar.
In addition, they strongly pushed donor eggs and insisted on anesthesia for a procedure that did not require it, raising doubts about their motives. Even worse, they refused to release her medical records.
There were warning signs everywhere. My fiancé and I chose to take our business elsewhere, which speaks volumes about our disappointment with this clinic.

This place is the worst. The doctor is an absolute fraud. He scheduled my egg retrieval and obtained zero eggs after counting more than 30 the day before. This not only makes no sense but was 100% due to the doctor's error, as my new IVF doctor confirmed. These people only want your money, and they charged me for every call. When I woke after surgery and was told there were zero eggs, they made sure no one saw me and quickly escorted me to my car. Extremely unprofessional.

I really wanted to write this review for Nurse Christina, who takes you to the Downers Grove Surgical Center for procedures. She was my nurse for both procedures and is truly the sweetest, kindest person ever! Thank you for making me comfortable and explaining everything.
Dr. Madanes is also very caring and kind. He treats patients well and simply wants to help.

The Munster staff are very friendly. However, it is frustrating to ask several times before leaving whether you owe anything, be told no, and then receive a call an hour later demanding payment by phone. It is also highly unprofessional for staff to confuse you with another patient. The woman at Downers Grove was extremely rude. They canceled my appointment three days beforehand, saying the doctor had an “emergency,” but offered testing the day before. When I said that did not work with my schedule, she replied, “That is not my problem. You can wait until next month or come when he can do the test.” I asked for a refund of the prepaid test fee, and she said, “Absolutely not. We will apply it to your next test.” I wanted a refund and to pay when the test was completed, but she refused. I called the surgical center and argued until I cried. I had also requested my test results, and they said they would email them. I asked for a paper copy of my ultrasound report so I could go elsewhere. My husband eventually drove almost two hours to Downers Grove to collect the results in person. He got them to promise to mail a check immediately, but they gave him a poor copy of the ultrasound report that no doctor could interpret. When we asked why they could not refund my card, they said it was “against policy.” After three weeks without a check, he called and was told, “I will handle it personally and mail it tomorrow.” We finally received our money a month later. They had not mailed the check when we first requested it. I then went to Munster, asked them to cancel my remaining appointments, and explained what had been said and how Downers Grove handled everything. I heard they had previous problems with the same woman treating patients badly. Why is she still there?! This is a fertility center. People come for help getting pregnant—why cause them so much stress?! A supervisor called and said I could attend on the original appointment day with a covering doctor. If someone was available to perform the test, why was that not offered earlier? I also found that unprofessional. I continued receiving reminders for appointments I had asked them to cancel. It took three calls to get everything canceled. The woman on the phone merely said, “Oh, we thought you meant everyone.” I confirmed that I owed nothing and was told everything had been paid. A month later, I received a bill for a completed test they had said was paid, with only 6 days until the due date!!! It arrived before I had even received the service statement. I would not recommend this place to anyone. They are extremely unprofessional, and there were already so many bad reviews. I wish I had listened. This place is a joke.

I love MFC. The staff are very kind, and Dr. Madanes is caring and patient. He took time to hear every concern and answer every question. The staff feel like family, and the MFC team is always ready to help, making our fertility journey easier.

I saw Dr. Madanes and eventually conceived naturally. When I later had difficulty conceiving a second time, I returned to Dr. Madonna after my insurance changed. I gave them my insurance card and told them three times before seeing anyone that the insurance had changed. We started the appointment, and they asked again about insurance. I repeated that it had changed. We planned to do testing, though I doubted we would proceed beyond that. Halfway through testing, they said my insurance had changed, I no longer had coverage, and I would have to pay full price for everything. I asked what it would cost if I completed only the tests and not IVF. They said it would cost much more because I did not plan to proceed with IVF. I canceled all appointments but later received bills for those already completed, which I do not believe we should pay because we will not receive the test results.

Without Dr. Matanes, my life would have no meaning. Thanks to his dedication and pioneering treatment, I am now the proud mother of two wonderful sons, ages 27 and 25.
I suffered from recurrent miscarriages at a time when there seemed to be no solution. Dr. Matanes did everything possible to find a treatment. He went beyond conventional therapy, actively sought help, collaborated with others, and used every available resource to develop an effective treatment plan. His persistence and compassion completely changed the course of my life.
His work was groundbreaking, and I will always remember the hope he gave me when I felt hopeless. I am forever grateful for his expertise, kindness, and the precious gift of a family.

I was dissatisfied with the intake process and consultation. I felt they did not care whether my insurance was accepted and made no effort to help resolve the issue. I still do not understand the $50 charge. I hoped to receive proper care from someone who genuinely cared about my fertility concerns. I am very disappointed.

I am extremely grateful to Dr. Madanes and his staff—special thanks to Cynthia and Felicia, who were very kind throughout all our treatments. Because of all of them, our little miracle was born this month. Treatment was difficult and required a great deal of time and money, but holding our daughter at the end made it 100% worthwhile.

Please see the review for Midwest Fertility Center's main office in Downers Grove, Illinois. Most treatment will take place there because the Munster office has limited capabilities. If you choose this doctor, you will regularly drive to Downers Grove. Although you may receive adequate treatment, billing is a disorganized nightmare. You may overpay for procedures and have to fight for reimbursement. After five months, two of my three procedures were finally reimbursed; after seven months, I am still waiting for reimbursement of an overpayment for the other procedure. Since you will be driving to Illinois anyway, you would be better off using a more reputable Chicago hospital or facility.

This clinic is one of the most unprofessional and discriminatory facilities I have ever encountered. My fiancé and I had an appointment at 7:00 this morning. We received a confirmation code and woke up early, leaving around 6:00 a.m. to arrive on time.
When we arrived, the woman at the front desk asked for our information but claimed she could not find our names in the system. After we provided the confirmation code, she acknowledged that it had come from their clinic but said they were "busy with egg retrievals" and could not see us today, telling us to call later to reschedule.
Worse, we watched a white woman arrive after us for a 7:15 appointment and get taken back immediately at 7:00 while we were turned away. The entire experience was humiliating and disappointing.
I will never return to this clinic, and I sincerely hope they address this unprofessional and biased treatment of patients.

This facility is a scam! Do not go there! My wife and I had wanted children for years, so we visited this facility for help. They promoted numerous add-ons, including DNA and sperm testing, all of which required out-of-pocket payment. As the costs kept increasing, we decided to wait until the new year before completing the other recommended tests.
They then said that because we had not completed all their tests, they would not give us any of the results we had already paid for. We wasted thousands of dollars and received nothing useful. Do not go to this facility. They are motivated only by money.

The service is excellent, and I recommend this clinic 100% if you are trying to conceive.
The care is very good; they make you feel at ease and schedule procedures around your availability.

We were scheduled for an urgent CT scan. When we arrived, the front desk told us, "They do not know how many patients are ahead of you. You can sit down and wait 'indefinitely,' or you can leave...it is up to you."
Sorry, but if you do not even know how many patients are waiting, I do not feel comfortable continuing my care at this hospital. I had just moved to the state. I strongly advise against going here. If your insurance allows it, drive farther to one of Chicago's world-class hospitals.

I have never met an entire team that was so kind and patient. This was my first time undergoing this type of treatment. It was a vulnerable time, and everyone there made me feel comfortable. Lydia was informative and patient and is a genuinely gentle person. I have not even completed my process yet, and I would already recommend this facility based solely on the communication and patience.

Despite appointments every other day, they did not monitor my wife's hormone levels. This led them to attempt egg retrieval before her estrogen level was high enough, killing all the eggs. This was a major error on their part. We did not receive a full refund, of course. This place is full of scammers, especially Dr. M. They did not seem to care or clearly explain why the retrieval failed.

Our experience and journey with the staff at the Valpo location was wonderful! They treated us like family and were always there when we had questions. It is very important to have support and know that staff will answer the phone when you call. Alysa always greeted you with a warm smile, even on a difficult day. She also made my husband feel comfortable on days when he attended appointments alone. Thank you for everything you do. When you make an extra effort for someone, simply being kind and helping when needed can transform their day, and we are very grateful.

I booked online and received confirmation, but arrived to find the clinic closed. When I called, they said the Valparaiso location had no record of my appointment. I asked how I could have an appointment number and time slot, and they told me to go online and book again. Do not waste your time; you will only lose it.

Dr. Madanes is clearly skilled and experienced, but the clinic staff fall far short of his standard. If you work with them, be prepared to advocate for yourself. They forgot to provide a tool I needed, a temperature monitor; forgot prescriptions; failed to order necessary tests based on my condition, forcing me to wait several additional weeks to continue treatment; and did not return calls. I raised these issues repeatedly and am writing this only because I can no longer tolerate them. Given the sensitivity of this subject and treatment process, you need a responsible and diligent team. This is clearly not that team.

From blood draws to ultrasounds, the women at the Valparaiso clinic are wonderful. They always help me relax and feel at ease during this difficult treatment process. Dr. Madanes is knowledgeable and kind. Kristin and Brittany are the best! I highly recommend this clinic!
