Dr. Jennifer Brown, United States
Dr. Brown, NRM's medical director, is a board-certified REI physician who joined the NRM family in January 2015. She attended the University of Colorado School of Medicine and completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, Colorado.
During residency, Dr. Brown coauthored research on oocyte and embryo vitrification conducted at the Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine (CCRM). While conducting this research, she realized she could invest in her future fertility and gain some reproductive security by freezing her own eggs for future use. Today, she is dedicated to educating the community about fertility-preservation options for reproductive-age patients diagnosed with cancer who are preparing for chemotherapy and for women delaying conception for personal or social reasons. Dr. Brown completed her fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Fletcher Allen Health Care, where she conducted PCOS research that was published and presented at national meetings.
She then moved with her family to Denver, Colorado, and worked at CCRM from 2012 to 2014, expanding her infertility practice and gaining extensive knowledge while treating complex patients from around the world. Dr. Brown specializes in reproductive surgery, fertility preservation, PCOS, and IVF with preimplantation genetic diagnosis. In 2019, New England reproductive endocrinologists elected Dr. Brown president of the New England Fertility Society. From 2014 to 2018, she represented Vermont on the NEFS executive committee as a member at large. In 2018, her peers also elected her to represent Vermont's independent practitioners on the Health First executive board. Health First leads the medical community in providing Vermonters with community-based, accessible, effective, and personalized healthcare.
Dr. Brown grew up in the Midwest (Shawnee Mission, Kansas) but spent considerable time in Denver, Colorado, where she enjoyed competing in triathlons while attending the University of Colorado School of Medicine and completing her residency at Saint Joseph Hospital. Like many women today, she was single in her 30s and focused on her training and career, but knew her ovaries might not cooperate with “pause mode.” At age 34, while an obstetrics and gynecology resident conducting oocyte vitrification research, Dr. Brown realized she could invest in her future fertility and gain some reproductive security through fertility preservation—freezing her eggs for future use.
She had no idea that, after moving to Vermont to complete her fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility, she would leave three years later with a husband, a baby boy, and another dog! Dr. Brown then worked at the Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine in Denver from 2012 to 2014. She significantly expanded her infertility practice and learned a great deal from treating patients from around the world. Dr. Brown is now pleased to practice at NRM in Vermont.
The Brown family has grown—they now have three sons and one daughter. With so many helping hands, they are happy to be part of Vermont's wonderful family-supporting community. The Browns enjoy skiing, hiking, laughing, and eating maple syrup. Dr. Brown's spouse, Roger, is the son of Marilyn Cochran Brown and comes from the “Skiing Cochrans” family. He works hard—when not skiing or coaching T-ball—to produce Slopeside Syrup and Untapped.
Based on her personal history, Dr. Brown truly believes anything is possible. She specializes in reproductive surgery, fertility preservation, IVF with preimplantation genetic diagnosis, and PCOS. Dr. Brown enjoys working with patients to help them understand and pursue their family-building goals, reminding them that they never know how their journey will unfold. It may ultimately look very different from what they imagined.
