Craig R. Sweet, MD, is a reproductive endocrinologist board-certified in reproductive endocrinology and infertility and in obstetrics and gynecology. His private practice, Specialists in Reproductive Medicine & Surgery (SRMS), is in Fort Myers, Florida. He is Medical and Laboratory Director of SRMS IVF, Southwest Florida Egg Donation, Embryo Donation and Surrogacy programs, and Embryo Donation International. He was also elected president of the Lee County Medical Society.
Born in Milwaukee, Dr. Sweet earned bachelor's degrees in psychology and biology from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He graduated with honors and Alpha Omega Alpha membership from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, where he completed his OB/GYN internship and residency. During residency, his research and publications covered recurrent pregnancy loss, pediatric gynecology, and genetics, earning him multiple awards.
Dr. Sweet completed subspecialty training in reproductive endocrinology, infertility, and genetics at the Medical College of Georgia. During and shortly after training, he published extensively on transvaginal ultrasound, recurrent pregnancy loss, male infertility, embryo-transfer techniques, advanced assisted reproduction laboratory methods, ambiguous genitalia, and molecular genetics.
Dr. Sweet is active in patient, nursing, and physician education and belongs to more than ten professional organizations and medical societies. He currently serves on the Lee Memorial Health System (LMHS) HealthPark Ethics Consultation Group and its pediatric subcommittee.
Gulfshore Life magazine named Dr. Sweet the region's top reproductive endocrinologist in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. Local and national magazines frequently cite his commentary on surrogacy, oocyte cryopreservation, and embryo donation.
His current research includes oocyte cryopreservation, male infertility, and embryo donation. He has also written on contemporary issues such as truth in advertising in reproductive medicine.
