Craig R. Sweet, MD, is a reproductive endocrinologist board-certified in reproductive endocrinology and infertility and in obstetrics and gynecology. His private practice, Specialists in Reproductive Medicine & Surgery (SRMS), is in Fort Myers, Florida. He is Medical and Laboratory Director of SRMS IVF, Southwest Florida Egg Donation, Embryo Donation and Surrogacy programs, and Embryo Donation International. He was also elected president of the Lee County Medical Society.

Born in Milwaukee, Dr. Sweet earned bachelor's degrees in psychology and biology from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He graduated with honors and Alpha Omega Alpha membership from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, where he completed his OB/GYN internship and residency. During residency, his research and publications covered recurrent pregnancy loss, pediatric gynecology, and genetics, earning him multiple awards.

Dr. Sweet completed subspecialty training in reproductive endocrinology, infertility, and genetics at the Medical College of Georgia. During and shortly after training, he published extensively on transvaginal ultrasound, recurrent pregnancy loss, male infertility, embryo-transfer techniques, advanced assisted reproduction laboratory methods, ambiguous genitalia, and molecular genetics.

Dr. Sweet is active in patient, nursing, and physician education and belongs to more than ten professional organizations and medical societies. He currently serves on the Lee Memorial Health System (LMHS) HealthPark Ethics Consultation Group and its pediatric subcommittee.

Gulfshore Life magazine named Dr. Sweet the region's top reproductive endocrinologist in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. Local and national magazines frequently cite his commentary on surrogacy, oocyte cryopreservation, and embryo donation.

His current research includes oocyte cryopreservation, male infertility, and embryo donation. He has also written on contemporary issues such as truth in advertising in reproductive medicine.

Dr. Sweet and his entire team are exceptional. After a long and heartbreaking year and a half—including 2 miscarriages and 5 failed intrauterine inseminations (IUI) at another Naples clinic—my wife and I transferred to Dr. Sweet. It was undoubtedly the best decision we made in building our family. We had always strongly felt that in vitro fertilization (IVF) at the Naples clinic was not right for us. Looking back, we are extremely grateful we transferred before proceeding there. From the beginning, Dr. Sweet took time to review our medical history carefully, explain our options using real data, and provide honest, thoughtful guidance. He truly treated us as individuals, tailoring treatment to our needs and welcoming questions, discussion, and new research. He did not merely treat us; he partnered with us. Within 6 months of transferring to Dr. Sweet's practice, we became pregnant. After 2 IVF cycles and a transfer during the second cycle, we are now the proud parents of healthy boy/girl twins. We cannot speak highly enough of Dr. Sweet and his outstanding team. From the nurses and front desk staff to finance and embryology, everyone we met was professional, kind, and genuinely committed to helping us succeed. If you are struggling with infertility, I highly recommend Dr. Sweet. Trust him, listen to his advice, and know that he will provide the best possible care. From day one, Dr. Sweet showed concern after I had tried for years without a positive result. He clearly explained and resolved many unknowns, ultimately leading to the long-awaited positive outcome. From the beginning, he inspired great confidence and trust. His staff were very kind and compassionate throughout every part of the process. In my particular case, I speak only Spanish, and this was never a barrier during any consultation. Today we are extremely happy and excited about our positive result and look forward to meeting our sweet baby.

Thank you! Dr. Sweet and his team are angels on earth. After a year and a half, 2 miscarriages, and 5 IUIs with a fertility doctor in Naples, we made the best decision of our fertility journey and transferred to Dr. Sweet. I had a strong feeling that I did not want to undergo IVF at the Naples clinic, and I am grateful we changed clinics before taking that path. Dr. Sweet devoted considerable time and effort to reviewing our history, providing data about our options, and sharing his honest opinion. He helped us become pregnant within 6 months of transferring to his practice. We underwent 2 rounds of IVF and a fresh transfer on the second attempt, and I have just delivered healthy boy/girl twins. He tailors treatment to each patient, welcomes discussion about options and research, and is never reluctant to offer advice and opinions. Words cannot express our gratitude to Dr. Sweet and his team. Everyone—the nurses, billing staff, front desk, Lori, and the embryology team—was wonderful. I would not wish infertility on anyone, but for those facing this journey, I sincerely hope they are fortunate enough to receive care from Dr. Sweet and his outstanding team. Honestly, I was nervous at first because various stories had made me anxious. But from my first appointment, every interaction completely changed my perspective. Every staff member I met was kind, considerate, and patient. They made me feel like their only patient and genuinely invested time and effort in our family-building journey. Dr. Sweet never rushed us or recommended anything he was not confident about; he always thoughtfully guided us toward the option best suited to us. After our first IUI failed, my husband and I conceived twins on our second attempt. We were overjoyed, and still are. At the follow-up appointment confirming the pregnancy, Dr. Sweet and his team were just as excited. When we graduated, I cried in the exam room and again on the way home. Although I hated becoming part of the infertility statistics, I still did not want to leave Dr. Sweet. It has been two months since discharge, and after every follow-up appointment my husband and I cannot help saying how much we miss the warmth of Dr. Sweet’s office and staff. I will always be grateful to Dr. Sweet and his team for their care, hope, and compassion. There were countless times when the path ahead seemed bleak and hopeless, but we finally made it through, and I am certain we could not have reached this point without them.

It took me a while to post this review because I have been busy caring for my beautiful princess! We began treatment at Alford’s clinic in 2020, and in my experience that clinic valued money rather than results. A Naples mothers’ group recommended Dr. Sweet, so we decided to give him a chance despite the one-hour drive. Dr. Sweet gave us some hope but also told us that, given our circumstances, there was a strong possibility we would not conceive. We persisted anyway, and I am very grateful we did! Although this is an extremely sensitive time for women who desperately want a child, he will not hug you or give you false hope simply to keep you as a client. He is realistic and direct, so if you need hand-holding and hugs, try another doctor. I liked working with him because his approach is based on medical facts, statistics, and research, and he is always honest. He made one joke that others might consider uncomfortable or insensitive, but I found it funny. My husband did not, although he was not offended. It was a pleasure working with him! Thank you, Dr. Sweet, for everything you did for us! Our baby girl will turn one this December!

Graduating from Dr. Sweet's care last week was bittersweet. Over the past two years, we spent far more time than expected with the team at Specialists in Reproductive Medicine, and they are unquestionably the best. Every team member is kind, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to work with. Dr. Sweet focuses on the facts. Although the news he gives may not always be what you want to hear, you can trust the team to develop a plan to help you achieve the desired outcome. We never questioned whether we had chosen the right place or whether this clinic could help us fulfill our dream of becoming parents. Susan is wonderful, and I will truly miss talking with her! From our first appointment, we appreciated his attention to detail and the comprehensive treatment plan he developed based on our test results and years of research data. Words truly cannot express how grateful we are to Dr. Sweet and his entire team. Over the past 3-4 years, they have been an essential part of our journey to build a family. Honestly, they feel like family themselves. What makes Dr. Sweet so special is his honesty and clarity. He never avoids the issue but works to identify the underlying cause of your difficulties. He then does everything possible to guide you toward the best path to conception, always prioritizing your interests. Our fertility journey was not easy. We went through endometriosis surgery, failed IUI, a canceled embryo transfer, and miscarriage. Along the way, we experienced heartbreak and uncertainty, but we were also incredibly fortunate to witness miracles and victories. Infertility is not always hopeful and positive. It is emotional, challenging, and sometimes overwhelming. Having a team that consistently stands beside you, supports you, and genuinely encourages you means everything.
