In 1997 I was hit by two cars and run over broke 8 ribs in 13 places cracked my skull in three. Broke both hips of spinal cord crushed two disks in neck they put two titanium bolts in pelvis and spine. No room for error the bolts run close to nerve. Went in weight was 186 woke up after collapsing both lungs with Nemoni the intubated two cuts in-between ribs added filter for blood clots drilled hole in knee to stabilize spine for pelvic bolts. Broke collar bone and all ribs off sternum. I flat lined three times they brought me back three times I was dead. Right rotator cup was fragmented they sewed my festival back in place . These people are the best in world flew Dr for surgery in from Germany. Surgery went perfect. Said I would not remember. Learned to walk learned my name again all schooling 1year 8 months occupational therapy and speech. Told me I would never walk without a Cain . Today I can run ten miles ride a bike 84 in a day after a 70 hour work week. They are amazing. No better drs nurses are kind and keep great records of every word you say. I've tried to do good in the world to return the favor I never forget the dedication they have for there patents. I'm not military but they brought me back from darkness. Unfortunately I hurt do bad I preyed to god for two years to die. But no pain no gain. I have saved other lives with the knowledge they taught me. Can't ever repay what they did for me . I'm forever great full. And fear death not. The greatest gift the let me earn. To have true faith you must get past the fear of death. That's the greatest gift. My family I've served anyway possible. 1997 it's 2024 and doc I'm still running. No Cain. With all the love in my heart me and my family thank each and every one of u for my life. God bless America Ok you saw the bolts now can you see the lady in the Middle of exray. Now oddly the young lady looks just like my great great great great great grandmother. One of the first cameras ever made captured her picture. I'll see if I can fig it up. There is a woman in middle of exray. I never new a exray technician that spends apparently to much time looking at exrays saw it and showed me. He did have a huge screen the size of a wall but she is there. Faith one might say. Or simply a family angel.

I was in a car accident on February 20, 2023, and was taken to the BAMC emergency room. The treatment was overwhelming at first, as expected, but overall it was fine. However, when I was discharged, I was told that an itemized bill would be mailed to me because I had no insurance at the time of the accident. I have received nothing in the past 18 months. I have tried several times to obtain an itemized bill, including two in-person visits to the civilian information office off base and direct calls to BAMC. I have received several different explanations for why nothing has arrived. The most common is that BAMC is in the middle of changing billing systems, so access to all bills is locked until the new system is fully set up, and no one can give me a clear completion date. I called again today and received the same response. I was also told I could visit the billing office on base, which civilians cannot do, or log into the BAMC website and pay online. I cannot understand how a hospital can take 18 months to change billing systems, especially a reputable military hospital like BAMC. I checked the website for information about my bill. The representative I spoke with today did not tell me that I needed an IEN/account number, which I have never received. The website also showed no information about my unpaid bill, although the representative said it should. In any other situation, BAMC would readily send an outstanding balance to the U.S. Treasury for collection, taking substantial amounts from a patient's income, tax refunds, and Social Security while adding significant interest and fees. Yet BAMC seems almost unwilling to settle my hospital bill from 18 months ago. I wonder whether anyone else has experienced the same problem with billing.

By God's grace, I came to the best hospital I have ever visited. Thanks to the team and these excellent doctors and staff, although I was given only a 10% chance of avoiding a wheelchair for the rest of my life, I walked out of the hospital. God is still working here. If I could give 10 stars, I would. They have some wonderful nurses.

They did not do their job. My husband was treated there after an accident punctured his lung and fractured several ribs. He was hospitalized for nearly a week, yet no one noticed that his shoulder was completely dislocated. They discharged him without saying anything and did not admit their ‘oversight’ until his follow-up almost a month later. Now he must see an orthopedic surgeon because they failed to repair something while he was there.

My father was receiving amazing care there, but once we began questioning things, there was no accountability—only excuses, such as understaffing. Head nurse Gastos was extremely rude and disrespectful. I hope he has heard of karma. If his family were hospitalized and treated with the same disrespect, he could experience his own behavior. He completely dismissed my concerns and showed no empathy. I would be embarrassed if he were my employee because he acted so superior. Stephanie and Brianna were wonderful. You might think military training would teach someone respect or how to speak to people, but apparently not.

I want to update my review because I have since had 2 better emergency-room experiences. The doctors and nurses took good care of us. Things seem to be improving. Early in pregnancy, I went to the emergency room with coughing, vomiting, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, fever, and other symptoms. After waiting several hours, a clearly overwhelmed nurse called me back with 3–4 other patients. She put each of us in a room and returned about an hour later, explaining that her shift had just begun and she was trying to clear the waiting room. She was kind, but then said, “You are here for cold symptoms,” and I corrected her that these were more than cold symptoms. Later, a doctor suggested an X-ray for pneumonia, and I agreed because I thought that was the correct diagnosis. The X-ray technician was quick and friendly. The doctor returned to discuss the results but was paged during our conversation and immediately left. Another doctor came later, and we started the entire conversation again. I was told I had bronchitis and sent home with medication. The entire experience lasted about 6–7 hours. Two weeks later I was still ill and saw another doctor. It turned out I had pneumonia all along. Although the doctors and nurses were kind to me, they were heavily overworked and missed important details, which frightened me. I was supposed to deliver at this hospital, but I am exploring other options because every department I have visited seems unable to focus on providing proper care. I gave 2 stars because it was clean and, in my experience, most people at least tried to be kind.

I cannot even describe the terrible emergency-room experience I had here. Constant injections and tests. They eventually discharged me when I could barely walk because of all the medication. When I expressed concern about the drugs they gave me, a nurse said, “You do not have to take them.” Seriously? I was alone and unable to advocate for myself.

If you are a civilian, do not go here. They will overwhelm you with surprise bills and provide no help. I requested monthly statements for two years and never received them. No one can be reached; you are always passed around. They seem to withhold the bill so they can send it to the Treasury and cause serious problems. It feels like a legal loophole and a scam. They should be shut down for what they do to people. Unless you want lifelong debt, avoid this place completely. I wish I had known they were thieves; I would never have chosen this nightmare. They take years to send a final bill, then surprise you with several bills and effectively force payment. They are cruel. Even my inpatient care was terrible. I was crying in pain, and a nurse only stared at me as if annoyed by my presence. He never asked what was wrong as I struggled to walk. Eventually someone saw me walking and crying in severe pain and actually helped. This is the worst place on earth. Avoid it. The care is terrible, and they will charge you heavily. This place should not be recommended on Google Maps to unsuspecting civilians. Do not come here!

Four years ago, they saved my life and the left side of my arm and leg. They also treated my back, which I thought was sprained, and told me it was fractured. I want to say God bless them. They also helped my sister-in-law. May the Lord be with them.

My review is for the labor and delivery department. I moved to Texas at 33 weeks pregnant, so BAMC was my only delivery option at the time. I delivered my son in November 2024. Honestly, the staff during labor lacked some professionalism and had many personal conversations while I was experiencing very painful contractions. The first time I came to the unit, both doctors who treated me were professional. The sonographer was very kind, and both nurses in the room were 5/5. Postpartum care, however, was underwhelming. The nurse during delivery did care. Overall, my experience was average.

My husband was transferred here unconscious from another hospital. His military background is 0, and he should not have been sent here when another trauma center was nearby. 15 months later, we received an astronomical bill. Two weeks later, we were told it had been sent to the Treasury with nearly 50% added in administrative fees, late fees, and interest. How do you fail to notify a patient about a bill and then suddenly send an unbelievable amount to collections? We have been fighting them to remove all fees, penalties, and administrative charges. How can you employ so many incompetent people that no one correctly enters or even verifies a patient’s address, then have the audacity to surprise them with a bill the size of a mortgage?

If my father had any other hospital option, believe me, I would take it. My father has cancer, and aside from the care he received before his diagnosis, everything else has been disappointing. Spending 8 hours in the emergency room with a patient who is actively bleeding is completely unacceptable. They confirmed that his bladder was bleeding, and then nothing happened. It took two hours for a urologist to see him and determine the problem. We had to request admission because they planned to send him home. I swear, if he would let me take him to any other hospital...

I would like them to be my primary care manager, and once they reopen PCM enrollment for military retirees, I will change this rating to five stars. I want BAMC as my primary care manager, but I also appreciate the specialty care they provide.

The medical team at Boston Children's Hospital (BAMC) saved my brother's life. I live out of state, but they contacted me immediately to update me on his condition. He was undergoing a bone marrow transplant (BMT) and could not use his phone. They diagnosed him promptly and treated him before his condition worsened. Everyone was kind and supportive, and the care they gave my brother was exceptional. I will never forget the pediatrics/PICU team. They were a blessing and truly outstanding. My brother is recovering. Thank you all for your dedication and hard work. We sincerely appreciate you!

You could really smell strong germ spores! The emergency room was not clean at all! I went to the restroom, and the air felt much better. I could not smell any spores there. I think the air was filtered better.

As a retired service member and current DHA GS-13 employee, I expected more from a Level I military medical facility. Unfortunately, BAMC continues to fall short. The lack of coordination between the specimen system and physicians' offices is unacceptable. This is not an isolated incident, but the second time I have experienced it personally. A facility at this level should set the industry standard, not struggle with basic communication and process execution. If I could afford civilian healthcare, I would have gone there long ago. It is deeply frustrating and discouraging that the system we are supposed to trust keeps failing us.

My only complaint is that they tried to rush treatment of my injury before stabilizing my pain. I vividly remember the day after surgery. My nurse was Kim, an LVN. She was too busy to take me for an MRI, so transport took me downstairs. When I arrived, the technicians did not know how to handle my leg brace. They knew it needed to come off, although the doctor had told me it was a locked brace that could not be removed. They moved me from the bed to the MRI table, sending pain through my leg, then lifted my leg out of the brace, causing intense burning pain. It felt as though my leg were on fire; I described it as a sizzling skillet at Chili's. After the MRI, they planned to move me without replacing the brace. I refused. They said they did not know how to put it back and would call my nurse. She did not come, but sent a technician from the unit. Technician Dylan Nance replaced my brace, helped move me back onto the bed, and returned me to my room. I took pain medication, but the ordeal set my treatment back. Friday morning, a physician assistant saw me. She said internal medicine had cleared me for discharge to rehabilitation. I told her I could go home Saturday. She agreed and changed the discharge date to Saturday. Another internal medicine doctor said I needed a bowel movement before discharge and would prescribe lactulose. A medical equipment supplier called; I paid the copay and was told the equipment would arrive Friday night before my Saturday discharge. Later, case manager Renee excitedly said my discharge papers were ready and I could leave for rehabilitation. I again said I could go home Saturday and that my physician assistant would update the discharge plan. He said that was fine but canceled my medical equipment. I explained that could not be right because I had paid and it was already on the way. I was only waiting to receive crutches after therapy. He said everything was fine but had no record that I needed crutches. Then I met charge nurse Franklin Motyka. He entered while Renee and I were talking and said I was being discharged and had already been discharged. I explained my discussion with the physician assistant, but he dismissed it and said my staying alone was wasting thousands of dollars. He said he would attend a treatment and return to talk because I needed to be corrected. My therapist Terry arrived. Charge nurse Franklin Motyka returned angrily and tried to force me to leave. He ignored what I said and told me he would send a doctor to speak with me. I laughed because I could not believe a fellow nurse was so eager to push me out. The doctor came as Motyka promised. She was initially aggressive but eventually left, saying she would change my discharge date to Saturday. Others: Renee, case manager—pressured me to leave Friday, August 29, after saying arrangements might not be complete until Monday, September 1. He also failed to update the chart to reflect our conversation. He was eager to enjoy his third Labor Day weekend! Internal medicine doctors: either they failed to update the chart or communicate with each other and staff about their expectations, or staff did not read the chart carefully. Kim, LVN: I hardly saw her; she did not advocate for her patient and, in my opinion, was not a good nurse. But what do I know 🫤. Franklin Motyka: promoted to charge nurse too soon. He lacked compassion, empathy, and concern. Everything the doctors, therapist, and medical equipment staff mentioned was supposed to happen before my Saturday discharge. Clearly, I did not invent it. It must have been documented.

The eye clinic now frequently changes appointments without calling or texting. We arrived 15 minutes early and were told the appointment had been moved by an hour. The person responsible for rescheduling did not call or text promptly, causing us to wait at least 90 minutes. Be sure to call this clinic the day before your appointment.

Do not expect surgical staff to update you after a family member’s operation. Do not expect a call after submitting a concern through Boston Medical Center’s (BAMC) patient experience department. My 87-year-old father was transferred from the emergency room to intensive care and underwent abdominal surgery two days later. While I sat outside intensive care, no one spoke to me. Two days later, and even now, no one has tried to call. To the surgical team, your family member is only a case/practice case. The nursing staff, however, have always been excellent.

Everyone at BAMC was amazing!! I had a parathyroidectomy. ENT surgeon Dr. Stevens and her team explained the procedure, risks, recovery, and more in detail. The surgery went very smoothly. She told my wife it was completed "with ease." Everyone at BAMC also did an excellent job, from Lethy at pre-op check-in—I hope I spelled that correctly—and Jordan, to the anesthesia team—sorry, I should have written down both doctors' names—to Vin in post-op care and Divine in the recovery room—I hope I spelled his name correctly. They were all professional, respectful, kind, and helpful. Thank you again for making this such a positive surgical experience!!

Terrible service. I do not usually write reviews, but I waited a full 13 hours to complete my discharge paperwork, which is absurd. How can an institution this large not have a system that can complete a discharge within one day, especially when my departure was already planned for that day? There were no additional medications, appointments, or anything else. I only needed the paperwork completed so I could leave and return to work.

The service was fine, but they now have a triage-like area with chairs side by side. A doctor took me to another room to discuss my personal health information, but then the supervising doctor came in and began discussing it in front of everyone. This seemed like a HIPAA violation and felt very uncomfortable.

This hospital was amazing! I went to Baptist ER first. The next thing I know they had me on an ambulance to BAMC! I had a wonderful trauma care team. Even the food was great! Whaaaat....

I fractured my leg bones in two places. Otto Kaiser Hospital and Floresville Hospital could not treat me, so I was transferred to Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC). Upon arriving at BAMC in San Antonio, I immediately underwent emergency surgery. The surgeons, doctors, and nurses there were the best. This June will mark three years. My mother received excellent care during her stay at BAMC. I want to thank everyone in the East Wing, including the doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, transport staff, cleaners, surgeons, mental health specialists, and physical training staff. Thank you all for taking such good care of my mother. I nearly lost her in February, but you restored her vitality and brought back her lively, funny personality. Ms. Salas is now recovering well. Thank you also for allowing her to make videos showing how her wounds were treated. We appreciate everything the entire East Wing staff did.

This was the worst emergency room experience I have ever had. The staff were indifferent and showed no urgency or empathy. I waited for hours without any timely progress and felt that no one cared about my concerns. An emergency room should make patients feel safe and cared for, not frustrated and ignored. Overall, this experience was extremely disappointing. Given how I was treated, I would not recommend this hospital. I ultimately left.

The doctors are outstanding. They are compassionate, knowledgeable, and extremely considerate. They treat patients as people, not as tasks, and truly understand what patients are going through. This is the best trauma center in the country. We love BAMC.

If I could give the emergency room a negative rating, I certainly would. My husband arrived at BAMC having a heart attack. He was sweating, clutching his chest, and unable to walk. They helped him into a wheelchair, performed an ECG, and then made us wait in the lobby because the ECG was “normal.” I told the front desk that he was really having a heart attack. They did not care and told us to wait. Two minutes later, my husband passed out, fell from the wheelchair, and died! Yes, his heart stopped!! I collapsed to the floor, cried out for help, and began praying. They brought a stretcher, lifted him onto it, and climbed on top to perform CPR as they rushed him to the doctors in the back. It took about 40 minutes to stabilize him. I was furious about the rude and dismissive attitude at the front desk. *****Five stars for cardiology. Once he reached the cardiology department, everything was completely different! On the fifth floor, a team of doctors took excellent care of him. They must have known the whole story because word had surely spread about what happened in the first-floor emergency room. I completed a complaint form, and the next day several people, including administrators and the head of the emergency room, came to speak with us. A colonel also spoke with us afterward. I am at a loss for words. I am sorry, but two years later, I am still angry and keep reliving what happened. Because of this experience, I am now terrified whenever anything happens to my husband, including high blood pressure and arm numbness, which is happening now. As I post this, we are back at BAMC. At the time, they did not seem to care about what happened in the emergency room and merely went through the motions. We are extremely disappointed that veterans are treated this way. But we only have military health insurance, Tricare, so we are at their mercy. Perhaps they know they cannot be sued and simply do not care. However, as I write this post today, I must say that my husband was taken back to the emergency room within 30 minutes so they could address his symptoms. There may now be a double high-risk flag next to his name when they pull up his records. In any case, please pray for our veterans and service members and hope that the first-floor emergency room treats their conditions promptly.

I would like to commend the care I received in the emergency room today. The entire process, from registration to triage, was highly professional. I registered at around 5 a.m. and did not know when the shift changed, but I had expected the level of care to decline somewhat, which it did not. Please pass this praise along to the appropriate staff. On 2026/6/21, the doctors, nurses, and medical staff on duty from 5 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. were well trained, professional, dedicated, and personable. Great hospital! Thank you! Robert McIntosh

This is the worst emergency department I have ever seen. I would not take my dog there even if it were dying. I arrived by ambulance with an IV still in place. They told me they would put me in a room and begin emergency treatment immediately. I am certain the ambulance driver dropped me off in the outside waiting area and told me to find the triage nurse. The triage nurse was extremely rude and told me to go to the front desk. I followed her there, and she complained that I would not sit in a wheelchair, saying, “Then you are going to have to do a lot of walking.” I reached the front desk and saw a man sitting at the far end by the emergency entrance. He was a thin, bald White man with a very poor attitude. I told him that a doctor at Wilford Hall had called to send me by ambulance and had contacted a doctor there to arrange my admission, treatment, and an MRI. The man said I would still have to wait about two hours. I explained what the doctor at Wilford Hall had told me, and he said it did not matter and I still had to wait. He said this was the emergency room and he did not know what else to tell me. I called the doctor who sent me there. He asked me to tell him which doctor the man had spoken with. I gave him the doctor’s name, and he said okay. I then asked the doctor on the phone whether I should just go to the Methodist hospital near my home. He said no and that he would call the doctor again. After I hung up, the man interrupted and said that if I went to Methodist, I might wait three or four hours. I said that was not true because I had been there before and was seen within five minutes. He said I might have to wait two hours there because my case was unusual, but I needed to sit down first. I left and called my husband to pick me up. We were about to go to Methodist Hospital in Westover when my doctor called me back and said no, go back. I spoke with another doctor, who said I would be seen immediately. To make sure, I called the emergency room again and spoke with the bald White man seated by the revolving door. I told him that my doctor had called me back. He said that since I had left, I would be given priority when I returned and would be seen first. I just needed to wave. I told him there was no need to be so rude to me because I had been polite and respectful to him. He said to come back, that I would be seen immediately, and that I should not have left. When I reached the desk, the man looked at me and said, “Oh, you look different with your hair down.” I did not respond. A nurse came in, and he said, “Please take her back. She does not need to wait. She has priority and must be taken in.” The nurse took me back, assessed me, and asked what had happened. I said there might have been a communication problem, but I had arrived by ambulance with an IV in place, and the man he had just spoken with had been extremely rude. He treated me like a dead dog and did not want to help me at all. My doctors later seemed to understand the situation and were courteous and diligent. Unfortunately, a young Black female nurse who cared for me treated me very badly and spoke in a harsh, hateful tone. I do not know why, after my husband served for 30 years, I was treated so poorly there. I was deeply upset. I will never go to the BAMC emergency room again, even if my life is at risk. Even if I were shot and dying, I would rather die in the parking lot than go inside. The doctors there were all right, however. We have visited some of the clinics, and they were fine. But as I said before, as long as I live, I will never go to that emergency room, take my family there, or recommend it to anyone. Go to another hospital where they will respect you and treat you well.
