Dr. Michael Werner, United States
Dr. Werner is a board-certified urologist who completed specialized fellowship training in male infertility and surgery and male sexual dysfunction at Boston University Medical Center. He completed his urology residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan and attended medical school at the University of California, San Francisco. He holds an undergraduate degree in biology from Harvard University.
Dr. Werner's private practice is limited to male infertility and male sexual dysfunction. He has lectured and written extensively on these topics in medical journals and books. His focus on these fields enables him to use current, advanced treatments and surgical techniques to maximize each patient's chance of success.
Dr. Werner is the medical director and founder of Maze Laboratories . Since 1994, Maze Labs has specialized in comprehensive semen analysis and is New York State's largest sperm bank, storing sperm from men or transgender women for use by their partners or designated recipients. Maze is currently the only laboratory in the country performing Extended Sperm Search and Microfreeze (ESSM) , which has found sperm in 40% of men diagnosed with azoospermia or in whom conventional methods found no sperm. Dr. Werner created a combination of sperm mapping and ESSM called GN-SEM, which allows some men with no sperm in the ejaculate to complete successful IVF cycles without an invasive open testicular biopsy (m-TESE).
