She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the New York University School of Medicine in New York City, before finishing a research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, and an REI fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital-Harvard Medical School also located in Boston.

Since 1982, Dr. Loughlin has been practicing medicine and has extensive experience treating patients requiring in vitro fertilization. Dr. Loughlin was co-director of the first successful IVF program at Brown University’s Women and Infants Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.
