Dr. Emily Goulet is a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist who enjoys helping families grow. She partners with patients to develop personalized fertility treatment plans. “I believe every patient is unique and deserves focused attention to their specific circumstances and goals. Patients know their bodies best. My role is to listen and educate them about fertility, health, and their options. It is rewarding when we can develop a holistic, more natural approach together. For patients who need the most advanced or aggressive treatment, I understand how stressful the process can be. I entered fertility medicine because precision medicine and the evolving field of genetics inspired me. But I never forget that it is all about something basic and organic—the human instinct to love and care for a baby.” Dr. Goulet has particular interests in PCOS, egg freezing and fertility preservation, options for single mothers and LGBTQ+ people, and weight-related fertility concerns. She is passionate about expanding access to fertility care. “Having a family is a basic human right. Fertility care may involve many barriers, both real and perceived. I am here to help navigate them and advocate for anyone concerned that treatment may be out of reach.” As a single mother, she underwent years of fertility treatment herself and is now the proud mother of Charlie, an IVF baby. Outside the office, she is an avid video gamer, quilter, and knitter. Dr. Goulet enjoys time with her family and exploring the many nature trails that have made Paradise her new home.

 

Education

Dr. Goulet earned her medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. She completed a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medical Center, specializing in fertility medicine. She spent one year in private practice in Texas and served as a clinical assistant professor at Baylor University Medical Center before returning to the islands. She has served as a clinical assistant professor at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine and recently joined the Fertility Institute of Hawaii.

Dr. Goulet is a respected fertility specialist who brings valuable expertise to the team. She lived in the Pacific Islands 20 years ago while serving in the Peace Corps and is a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. She represents patients' interests and advocates for them in legislation at the state and national levels. She has surgical privileges at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children and Pali Momi Medical Center.

    Hawaii Institute for Reproductive Medicine is a wonderful place. Everyone is always warm and welcoming, and they quickly answered any questions or concerns I had. I appreciated being able to communicate with them through Klara. Tina was wonderful in helping us throughout the process, and Dr. Karmon was also excellent!     We had a wonderful experience at Hawaii Institute for Reproductive Medicine. Everyone was very kind, we received quick responses, and appointments were scheduled promptly. They accommodated our schedule, and the wait at every appointment was very reasonable. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

    This place is very shady. They charged me for an appointment to check whether I had good swimmers because my wife and I were trying to become pregnant. I needed a referral to have it done. As soon as they received the referral, they began trying to make me pay for the entire treatment program. I kept telling them I only needed a sperm count. When they learned that my wife and I did not plan to complete the entire program with them, they became very unprofessional. I finally obtained an appointment. I should also mention that none of this was covered by insurance. I had to fly in from the Big Island the night before. When we arrived, we both commented on how cold and “clinical” the clinic felt. They said results would take 7-10 days and told us not to contact them because the results would be sent to my referring doctor's office. When the results arrived, no one at my clinic could interpret them. The report stated that I had to be a patient of the Fertility Institute of Hawaii to have the results explained. They took my money for the test but refused to tell me what the results meant unless I paid them more. This must be illegal. Perhaps calling a Hawaii news outlet would make a good story. Updated response: Thank you for confirming what I already wrote. You charged me for a test to assess my sperm viability. That is the test I needed. When the results came back, you were the only ones who could tell me or explain what they meant, but you would not do so unless I paid more. Today we will email local news organizations to explain this practice. Perhaps it is newsworthy, perhaps not, but this is certainly not how a Hawaii business should operate.

    We received treatment at the clinic for several months and always felt supported and valued. It was wonderful to have questions answered quickly and appointments scheduled promptly. The entire team feels like a family supporting you throughout your journey.

    The entire staff are wonderful. Every concern, question, or thought was always addressed. I always felt heard and that my opinions and thoughts mattered. Everything was explained in great detail. Everyone had a great personality and positive energy. I always looked forward to my appointments, even when the results were not what I hoped for. When we had to postpone or cancel part of a cycle and start over, I felt comforted by so many kind words and positive affirmations. I truly love the entire team here. My FET cycle was wonderful. It was initially canceled and we had to start again, but Julia and Dr. Frattarelli were very supportive and encouraging, and we were able to proceed with the transfer the second time. The transfer itself was wonderful. Every staff member we met was excited and happy for my husband and me. The atmosphere was amazing. The embryologist was wonderful, and we received many photos and videos of the actual procedure. I would recommend them 10/10 to anyone seeking infertility care.

    Throughout my life, I believed motherhood was beyond my reach; however, FIH brought a remarkable change to our lives. Dr. Karmon, Nurse Gretchen, and the entire staff showed exceptional patience, provided comprehensive information, and offered unwavering support throughout the process. The facility is not only conveniently located but also beautiful. Klara facilitated smooth communication, and I always felt supported and well cared for. We eagerly look forward to introducing our baby boy to Dr. Karmon and the team when he is born in February 2026. We offer them our heartfelt thanks.

    My husband and I had a wonderful experience here. Dr. Goulet and her team were very professional and kind. They responded very promptly; we could text them questions directly, and they sent us all the ultrasound images. They supported us throughout treatment and early pregnancy. I was very ill in early pregnancy, and as this was my first pregnancy, having them guide us through it was a lifesaver. My only feedback, and the reason I gave four stars instead of five, is that the "dignity drape" provided for transvaginal ultrasounds was too small. It is disposable, which is understandable given laundry costs, but other OB-GYN offices I have visited have larger disposable drapes. I personally prefer a slightly larger drape and kept meaning to bring my own, which I am sure they would not mind. Otherwise, the experience was excellent. Highly recommended, but if you are modest, consider bringing your own drape.

    My wife and I had an excellent experience at this clinic. Dr. Frattarelli, Julia, Abbie, Chandra, and the other team members were extremely supportive and made us feel at home. Communication was always open, the environment was clean, and our questions were answered promptly without our feeling rushed. After undergoing several fertility treatments on the island, we could not have found a better fertility provider. We are very grateful for their care.

    I am filled with gratitude and affection for Dr. Karmon and her entire team. Fertility treatment is expensive, difficult, and emotionally draining. FIH exceeded my expectations in every way. First, Dr. Karmon is exactly the doctor you want on your team! She is warm, knowledgeable, and highly skilled. She worked with us to develop a personalized treatment plan that helped us overcome various challenges, while remaining very encouraging and answering every question and concern. She is honest and thorough, and you can feel her passion for her work. The nurse coordinators are wonderful. They are organized, stay in contact, and provide attentive care at every step, sometimes even hands-on help. Tina was like an angel to me. Zoe made blood draws quick and painless. The surgical team was efficient and made the uncomfortable parts much more comfortable. Thank you, Camille! The front desk staff, billing staff, medical assistants, LPNs/RNs, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, embryologists, and anesthesiologists were all excellent. They were friendly, professional, and attentive. I had a positive interaction with every person I met here. Less important, but still a nice touch: the clinic itself is spacious and beautiful. The view from the waiting area is breathtaking. The operating room, laboratory, and embryo storage are all on site, making everything convenient. Ala Moana Hospital provides free parking for appointments. In terms of cost, IVF is an investment regardless, but when our insurance benefits were exhausted, they worked with us to find the best option. I hope I have not forgotten anything, but essentially, if you are considering fertility treatment, this is where you should go. Thank you, FIH, for caring for me like family!

    Excellent service in every respect. It starts at the top: Dr. Karmon is the consummate professional and a compassionate physician/mother. We did have one minor issue, which the team addressed and resolved quickly. Overall, every staff member I observed was highly professional. I would also be remiss not to recognize our IVF coordinator, Julia K.! She was not originally our coordinator, but we were fortunate that she stepped in and guided us throughout the process.     For years, I was told I would never be able to have children because of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). After seeing many doctors who did not truly understand my condition, I finally found the Fertility Institute of Hawaii, and it changed everything. I do not usually write reviews, but this place truly touched my heart. From the moment I entered the clinic, I felt cared for in a way I never had before. From the front desk and nurses to the anesthesiologist, everyone treated me with compassion, love, and respect. They made me feel valued, heard, and genuinely cared for at every step, including during surgery. Dr. Karmon is truly the best doctor I have ever met. Her understanding of PCOS amazed me, and I had never felt so understood and supported. I became pregnant sooner than I ever expected, and it still feels like a miracle.     I had an excellent experience at the fertility center. I never imagined undergoing IVF, so I felt apprehensive about the process. Feeling comfortable and supported was therefore especially important, and that is exactly how this center made me feel. Our doctor was Dr. Frattarelli. He is direct but considerate and seems to develop protocols designed to maximize the chance of success. Sylvia is an outstanding coordinator. She always answered my questions promptly and provided tremendous support throughout. All the physician assistants were very thorough during scans, and I appreciated their knowledge and skill. The clinic also offers acupuncture, which was wonderful. I received it on the day of my embryo transfer. I highly recommend this clinic. The clinic seems busy, but I could always schedule appointments that fit my needs. That was especially important because I live on another island and must travel a long distance. The clinic is very clean and organized. I am incredibly grateful to have such an excellent fertility clinic on the island. I am thrilled to be expecting my baby and sincerely thank them for helping make this possible!

    Facing infertility was frightening and emotionally overwhelming. Fortunately, my husband and I were referred to Dr. Frattatelli at the Fertility Institute of Hawaii, who helped us through this difficult journey. After several failed IUIs, we decided to try IVF. There was a great deal of information to absorb, but Dr. Frattatelli was patient and kind and explained every detail and option to us. From egg retrieval through frozen embryo transfer, he kept us comfortable throughout the process. In addition to an excellent doctor, we had a wonderful IVF coordinator. Julia answered every question and was our cheerleader from the beginning of our IVF journey. She guided us step by step through medication injections and was thrilled when movement was visible on our final ultrasound. We appreciated her so much that when my husband and I decided to have a second child, we could not wait to have her as our coordinator again. We were so happy to hear that she would become pregnant! I am nearing the end of my first trimester. Although my due date is still some time away, my husband and I are very grateful to Dr. Frattatelli, Julia, and FIH for helping us reach this point. This is our first confirmed pregnancy, and we are excited about this new journey!

    Our experience with FIH was excellent from the beginning. From the first consultation, they made us feel completely at ease. Trusting FIH was easy. The doctors and nurses are knowledgeable and deeply caring. We had used another clinic several years earlier, but our experience with FIH was truly life-changing. Our only regret is not finding FIH sooner. I must emphasize again that FIH is exceptional, and we are incredibly grateful for their care. We have never felt so comfortable, trusting, or attentively cared for. Dr. Karmon is highly knowledgeable and the best person to work with! From the moment we saw her during our video consultation, her warm and friendly manner drew us in. She has a reassuring confidence that makes you feel everything is under control. I remember meeting her in person for the first time and riding the elevator together. She gave us a sweet smile as though we were already friends, and in that brief moment we felt warmly embraced. My partner and I looked at each other and whispered, “That is our doctor!” :') Haha. I deeply appreciated her honesty throughout the process and loved her consistently positive attitude. She always entered the room smiling and patiently answered all our questions. Talking with her felt like talking with family or a friend. She celebrated every major milestone with us and was deeply understanding and supportive whenever we faced delays. She always remained positive. We are so grateful to her! Taylor was also amazing! She is one of the best nurses we have met, like a ray of sunshine. She is charming and upbeat, and her personality fits her profession perfectly—always cheerful and smiling. She is professional and sincere, made us feel completely at ease, and was always happy to answer our questions. Her reassuring kindness made us feel valued and cared for. She has the sweetest personality, and we are incredibly grateful for her. Zoe is simply the best phlebotomist I have ever met, haha! I swear I did not feel the blood draw at all! She is cheerful, lively, and wonderful. I enjoyed chatting with her, even if only for a few minutes. She makes you feel very comfortable and always makes you laugh. The front desk staff were consistently warm and friendly. They recognized me immediately every time and made check-in easy. I felt like a VIP patient, haha! Whenever we had an important test, they wished us luck. The entire team is exceptional, from the medical assistants and embryologists to everyone else. They made our experience wonderful, and every interaction made us feel like more than patients. I am truly grateful to FIH.     The care here was amazing!!!! From reception, nursing, and laboratory staff to every test and ultrasound, everything was impeccable!!! The entire team was kind, efficient, thoughtful, and compassionate!!!! Dr. Karmon is one of the most humble women I have met, highly skilled, and always found solutions to my fertility challenges. Our journey was difficult, but she succeeded!!! IVF coordinator Anissa was a treasure—supportive, kind, understanding, and always making us laugh. We were lucky to have her!!!     If I could give this fertility institute 10 stars, I would. A fertility journey can feel overwhelming, discouraging, anxious, and insecure, especially for a woman. But the institute’s warm, understanding, dedicated, attentive staff deeply cared for my husband and me throughout. You may not realize how much you need a cycle coordinator; Claire became someone I never knew I needed. She met our needs, ensured we had everything, arranged prompt visits when needed, reassured me when afraid, and supported me when I needed time. I call Dr. Frattarelli “Superman” because he rescued me through this two-year journey. He communicated gently, cared for us, explained every detail without rushing, and ensured we understood.     We had an amazing experience at this clinic. We worked with Dr. John Frattarelli and he was very kind, honest, patient and reassuring. From the very beginning, he answered all our questions, made us feel welcomed and provided us all the information regarding the process. Would highly recommend him to anyone! Additionally, we also had Claire as our coordinator, she was sweet, kind, patient, and does a great job communicating with us no matter what we needed. She consistently checked up on us, explained everything to us with a great attitude even though there are times when we asked her to explain it to us again. Both her and Dr. Frattarelli were a great source of positive energy for us throughout the whole process!

    I came to the Fertility Institute of Hawaii more than a year ago feeling devastated and ready to give up. A previous clinic had said my chance of pregnancy was lower than winning the lottery. Dr. Frattarelli and his excellent team restored my hope and belief that I would become a mother. I was quickly assigned a wonderful coordinator, Julia. Like a friend, she kept everything organized so anxiety and fear did not take over. Throughout my journey, she stayed in contact, ensured I took medication and completed labs on time, and scheduled each next appointment. Most importantly, she always smiled, encouraged me, and helped me continue. Zoe in the lab is amazing! Her friendly, lively personality removed my fear of needles. I wish she could draw all my blood. Dr. Frattarelli was professional and kind and patiently answered every question. He helped me feel in control of my IVF journey rather than afraid. I will always be grateful to Dr. Frattarelli, Julia, and the entire Fertility Institute of Hawaii staff. Because of them, my dream of motherhood will come true in July 2026.

Dr. Goulet was kind, decisive, and honest every step of the way. Even when the outlook felt grim, Dr. Goulet always made recommendations that were truly in my best interest. I never felt like “just another patient”—I felt heard and cared for as a person. My care coordinator, Anissa, was the friend I didn’t know I needed during such an uncertain season. She was compassionate during the hard moments and my biggest cheerleader when we finally had reason to celebrate. Her support meant more to me than words can express. If I could give advice to anyone beginning their fertility journey, it would be this: don’t give up, and trust your doctor.     Extremely unprofessional—she and her staff at Hawaii Fertility Institute essentially ignored us until we became completely disillusioned with the clinic and decided not to continue working with them. Very upsetting and disappointing.

    Wonderful people! Dr. Goulet and her staff were a pleasure to work with. She answered every question thoroughly and was very patient as we went through the IUI process, which was completely new to us. Her team member Desiree went above and beyond to resolve an issue with the medication we needed and remained compassionate and calm through my many emotions. Desiree spent hours on the phone with different people looking for a solution. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Goulet and her staff. From beginning to end—scheduling, laboratory work, communication, and appointments—the team was personal, professional, and responsive.     We loved our experience with Dr. Goulet at the Fertility Institute of Hawaii. After our initial meeting, we decided to change our timeline and returned two years later. Dr. Goulet was there and ready to help! She provided a wealth of information throughout the IVF process. We became pregnant on our first attempt and are now nearing the end of the first trimester! We look forward to working with her again in the future. Also, coordinator Tamara could not have been better. What a dynamite team.
