Dr. Panayota Napoleon Zarmakoupis, United States
Panayota N. Zarmakoupis, MD, is a fertility specialist at Reproductive Medicine Associates (RMA) in Lake Mary, Florida. Dr. Zarmakoupis is double board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI). She attended the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Medicine in Greece and is licensed to practice in the United States, Greece, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Specializing in REI allows Dr. Zarmakoupis to combine her interests in the endocrine system, genetics, and surgery. She is fascinated by the field’s collaborative and complex nature. Above all, she considers caring for people during their most vulnerable and emotional moments her true calling. “To this day, I consider it an honor that patients trust me during their infertility journey,” she says.
After medical school, Dr. Zarmakoupis completed her residency at NYU Langone Hospital in Mineola, New York, where she served as chief resident, followed by an REI fellowship at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Her experience includes serving as medical director of several OB/GYN and REI practices, and she is passionate about global health and teaching. She also pioneered several firsts in the field, including offering preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (PGT-A) and family balancing. Her clinical interests include efficient infertility care, poor response to in vitro fertilization (IVF), recurrent implantation failure, PGT-A, and preimplantation genetic testing for monogenic disorders (PGT-M).
This made joining IVI RMA, a global leader in reproductive medicine, an easy decision. “At RMA, I can participate in groundbreaking research and see that knowledge applied in clinical practice. RMA’s culture of continual learning and adapting to new discoveries also keeps my work dynamic and stimulating,” says Dr. Zarmakoupis. “Most importantly, my patients benefit from exceptional embryology support, which contributes to such high success rates. I knew RMA’s commitment to excellence and innovation would be professionally rewarding.”
Dr. Zarmakoupis is equally committed to connecting with her patients. She creates a safe space for them to share their feelings, helps them make informed decisions, and actively involves them in their care. Having treated patients from around the world, she draws on her strong cultural awareness to ensure that each person receives a personalized treatment plan reflecting their unique needs, beliefs, and goals.
Outside the office, Dr. Zarmakoupis treasures time with her two daughters. She also enjoys music and traveling abroad to explore new cultures. She has combined vacations to places such as sub-Saharan Africa with volunteer work to raise awareness of infertility. Her childhood in Greece fostered a love of swimming, and she also enjoys hiking. A trip to Namibia, ballroom dancing lessons, and seeing the opera Cavalleria Rusticana at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts in Orlando are all on her wish list.
