Laura April Gago, MD, is a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist and the medical director of Gago Center for Fertility, with offices in Brighton, Lansing, and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Since opening the practice in 2007, Dr. Gago has provided personalized fertility care to couples throughout the community.

After graduating from the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Gago and her husband returned to her hometown of Ann Arbor, where she completed her OB/GYN residency at the University of Michigan.

After residency, Dr. Gago completed a rigorous fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Wayne State University in Detroit and accepted a position as a clinical assistant professor. One year later, she became medical director of in vitro fertilization at the University of Michigan, where she developed fertility preservation and donor oocyte programs.

Dr. Gago's goal has always been to provide advanced fertility care and complementary wellness programs to couples trying to conceive. This led her to establish Gago Center for Fertility nearly 12 years ago.

Since then, the practice has continued to grow, serving more couples in Brighton, Lansing, and Ann Arbor. In 2014, Dr. Gago opened the Gago IVF laboratory in a peaceful setting where couples can receive personalized fertility care in comfort.

Dr. Gago is passionate about helping couples build the families they dream of. At Gago Center for Fertility, she can do just that.

I believe the doctors and nurses are capable and knowledgeable, and I am now pregnant. However, be prepared to ask many questions—if you even know what to ask—and call for test results. They may have the knowledge, but they do not share it without prompting. Clearly explaining options and procedures is not their strength. The doctor always seemed rushed. At the first consultation, I was asked whether I wanted IVF. She did not say she thought it was best for our situation or provide any details about what IVF involved. Perhaps I was expected to research every possible option before speaking with a professional? I was also given test results and recommendations immediately after general anesthesia, which did not seem like an appropriate time to provide new information. I had to speak with the office the next day to review it with a clear mind. Also, make sure you understand estimated costs before doing anything! I did not know, and the doctor did not disclose, that a set of blood tests for my husband and me would cost well over $10,000 each. Insurance paid some of it, but we did not expect a few vials of blood to cost so much. I now realize I should have asked about prices beforehand, but the doctor and office should also warn patients about such expensive procedures. They know how to help someone become pregnant, but the experience felt like being processed through a baby mill.

The only star I would give is for RN Lisa at the Lansing location, because she genuinely cares. That said, the Brighton office has the worst group of nurses, receptionists, and ultrasound technicians I have encountered. They made errors with prescriptions, appointment scheduling, procedure explanations, and expectations. The billing department was the only department that understood its role. The process is stressful enough without constant miscommunication.

The only reason I would give them one star is that Ms. Hansen was very kind. One other receptionist was also very good, but among the dozen or so I spoke with, only one was helpful. This place is extremely disorganized, and I have very little confidence in its services. Appointments were changed without mutual agreement. We waited an unreasonable amount of time for a telehealth visit. We drove all the way from up north to Lansing and, when we were 15 minutes away, were told it was a phone appointment! Several receptionists called about issues that had already been resolved. Messy and disorganized. I feel that I placed a great deal of trust and money in people who do not have things together and are so disorganized!

10/10 recommend for anyone trying to build a family. My husband and I spent about 1 1/2 at another fertility center before coming here. After only 1 month at Gago, we had completed testing and received more answers! All the staff are very kind and always happy to help. They can be somewhat direct about what is happening, but they prepare you for the worst and make the best outcome feel worthwhile :) We had two unsuccessful IUIs at the other center. After one round here, I finally became pregnant just as I was ready to give up completely. If you are ready to give up, do not do so until you have tried Gago. You will not be disappointed.

About two years ago, we visited Gago Fertility in Lansing and had a very disappointing experience. The clinic was disorganized. They performed an ultrasound but never uploaded the results to my patient portal. Instead, they sent us a bill. When we asked for evidence, or at least confirmation that my uterus and ovaries were normal, they said the ultrasound had not been completed—yet they still charged us. They later said they could not complete the examination because they suspected my uterus was severely tilted. They scheduled a saline infusion sonohysterogram (SHG). Again, they did not complete the examination, I was in pain, and they rescheduled it—but still charged us. I later went to another clinic, had a normal SHG, and was told my uterus was in a normal position. Every other clinic I have visited provided results and complete documentation, showing just how unprofessional and disorganized Gago Fertility was. Overall, it felt as though they cared more about billing than patient care.

We tried on our own for more than a year, then tried for 6 months with help from my regular OB-GYN without success, and were referred to Gago Center in October 2023. We had our initial consultation with Dr. Deanna in November 2023. She performed the initial testing and developed our treatment plan. We became pregnant in April 2024 and delivered a healthy baby in December 2024. We could not have asked for a better outcome. As a plus-size mother with PCOS, I was genuinely worried that I would be turned away because of my weight, but Dr. Deanna and the other staff at Gago treated me with nothing but kindness and the utmost respect. Infertility is a very stressful time, and all the nurses were my cheerleaders when I felt discouraged. Highly recommend.

Dr. Gago is the most attentive and caring doctor I have met. She genuinely wants her patients to feel comfortable, truly listens to your concerns, and wants you to succeed. I also believe she is very knowledgeable in this field and stays current with evidence-based developments.

We met Dr. Katherine Hansen. She was extremely rude and late and barely had time to speak with us. Then she berated us for not receiving the Covid-19 vaccine while also saying, ‘Your body, your choice.’ She also began saying my wife was overweight when she actually is not.

Beware of hidden costs and lack of accountability! My experience at Gago Center for Fertility in Brighton, Michigan, was a nightmare. We underwent several rounds of IVF and transfers, all of which unfortunately failed. What made this already difficult journey even worse was deceptive billing and the staff's complete lack of accountability. During IVF, we were explicitly told that a laboratory test would be 100% covered by insurance or would cost no more than $275 out of pocket. Months later, we unexpectedly received a bill for about $900, far from what we had been told. We called Gago Center for Fertility to dispute the bill and seek answers, but the response was shocking. They literally told us it was not their problem and that they did not care about billing issues. This was extremely unprofessional and entirely unacceptable. The experience devastated our family, especially given the emotional toll of also experiencing a miscarriage during IVF. We lost valuable time and were misled about costs, adding financial stress to everything else. I strongly urge anyone considering fertility treatment to avoid this center. Do not trust them when they say a cost is covered or that you will owe only a small amount. They clearly do not prioritize patient well-being, and their lack of transparency and support makes this place a trap. If you value honesty, transparency, and providers who genuinely care, look elsewhere. Avoid Gago Center for Fertility at all costs.

I absolutely love this office. It is clean and informative, and the staff are extremely helpful and understand that this is not a simple process, so they make you feel very comfortable. Every appointment began on time, which is important because I drive an hour specifically to visit Dr. Gago's office. I am glad I did my research and trusted my instincts in choosing Dr. Gago and her team. 🩷

No support and no communication. The staff are simply terrible. They will not even fully inform patients of their findings. Dr. Gago does not speak with patients, and if you do not pursue IVF, they treat you like a leper. Dr. Gago and her entire clinic should be ashamed and rename the practice “Gago’s” for profitable pregnancy advice.

What began as a hopeful treatment journey at Dr. Gago's clinic slowly became a nightmare. - My biopsy sample was lost, and I had to undergo another very painful procedure to collect new tissue. - They refused to send my referral records to a reproductive immunologist, and my follow-up emails were completely ignored. - They did not respect my schedule and tried to cancel a procedure with only 12 hours' notice, even though my partner and I had already arranged time off work. - Unethical billing practices and refusal to work with insurance: they tried to charge me for covered services even though my insurer said it would pay if the clinic supplied the required documentation. - Too many patients led to long gaps between cycles. The list of poor experiences goes on. I deeply regret wasting so many years at Dr. Gago's clinic. Infertility is already an extremely painful process, and this clinic made it much harder than it needed to be.

As I approach the final weeks of pregnancy, conceived naturally and not because of Mrs. Gago or her unprofessional staff, I cannot help reflecting on the experience. I wish I could now use the money spent at that fertility clinic to prepare for the baby. To anyone going through this process or struggling and reading this: if my experience resonates with you, know that other fertility clinics are available. I mistakenly believed a larger company would provide better service, but I learned the hard way that at Gago, you are nothing more than a dollar sign. After my experience at Gago left me with PTSD, I went to IVF Michigan feeling completely defeated and convinced we would never succeed. That clinic restored my hope. After only two appointments, I conceived naturally—they did not charge us, but instead celebrated our success and even waived the fees. They were genuinely happy that we succeeded without further treatment. I am sharing this to offer another option that, in my view, is more trustworthy and family-oriented. If I can spare even one couple the emotional and financial burden my husband and I endured, I will be glad. There are sincere, kind people who will not see you only as a source of money, and I am grateful I finally found them.

Dr. Gago and her team changed my life. When I first came to the clinic about two years ago, I felt completely lost about infertility, and they helped me through the hardest period of my life. Compassion, care, and kindness are deeply rooted in every staff member. After two rounds of IVF, I recently graduated from the clinic and am expecting a baby girl in March—the picture shows our little one! When we are ready for a second baby, we will definitely return to Dr. Gago!

After 7 years of trying to conceive with my husband, I had an appointment with Dr Pritz! My only regret is not meeting with Dr Pritz and the rest of her team sooner. Not all appointments are easy or joyful. Dr Pritz was honest, compassionate and took her time with all the information given. Thank you, Dr. Gago. After two failed attempts, we nearly lost hope but kept going. Our third transfer finally worked! Our baby is now 7 months old. Thank you to Dr. Gago and her team. Reproductive immunologist Dr. Derbala also helped us greatly during pregnancy and helped us keep the baby. I highly recommend Dr. Derbala. Despite setbacks along the way, we ultimately built our family. We did not try another clinic, so we cannot compare, but I heard mixed reviews about IVF Michigan. We consulted there before our third transfer but decided to try once more with Dr. Gago. The lesson we learned is not to give up, regardless of the clinic, and to keep trying.

I am very satisfied with Dr. Pytleski and Gago Center for Fertility. They made my IVF treatment very smooth and paid close attention to my questions and concerns. I am still waiting for the transfer and results, but everything has gone well so far. One note: choose Pixel Care Pharmacy rather than Prima, because Prima charges high shipping fees for every medication delivery. I wish the clinic had known this before referring us to Prima. I highly recommend Gago Center for Fertility for IVF.

Dr. Pritts recently took over my care after my previous doctor left. I can honestly say it has been a completely different experience, in the best way. For the first time, I encountered a doctor who was so candid and direct while also showing genuine empathy and understanding. She listened patiently and made my husband and me feel valued during this emotional and stressful treatment process. Her ability to balance honesty with compassion was especially impressive and deeply reassuring. IVF is stressful, and at my previous clinic I constantly had to advocate for myself. It was wonderful to find a doctor who is passionate about her work. Their payment plans are very reasonable, and the financial team is excellent. They made the treatment process easy and stress-free. Whenever I had a question, the staff responded quickly. It is wonderful to find a doctor and staff who truly care about their patients. The clinic also feels warm and home-like, with cozy little rooms that do not feel like a hospital. I had my first egg retrieval with Dr. Pritz today, and seeing her and her team is always a pleasure. Although this is a fee-for-service field, providing care is part of the job, and I believe each of them will care for you in a way you both need and appreciate. I feel their smiles and encouragement every time I see them. I have gotten to know some of the nurses and look forward to seeing them at each appointment. Today was emotional for both my husband and me, and they made sure everyone felt at ease and readily provided everything we needed. UPDATE: I cancelled an upcoming appointment after my terrible visit with Dr. Pritts. Today I received a call (3 months since my last visit) asking if I wanted to schedule my next appointment! 3 MONTHS to check in on a patient?! Unbelievable. Please save yourself the disappointment and stress of this practice and go elsewhere. ______ I had a disappointing experience at this fertility center, largely due to my interactions with Dr. Pritts. While the wonderful staff I spoke to over the phone leading up to my appointments were very friendly, I did not feel that my care was personalized or that my concerns were truly heard. Throughout my treatment, I was hoping for a more individualized approach based on my specific situation, but instead felt like I was being guided through a one-size-fits-all plan. When I tried to ask questions or discuss alternative options, I didn’t feel much openness or flexibility in adjusting my care.

I felt very supported by the team at Gago Fertility. I had previously gone to another fertility clinic, where I did not feel heard or supported as I should have been. I love Dr. Gago and her staff. They were very kind and answered every question I had. Thanks to them, I am now 7 weeks pregnant. Over the past 6 months, I visited their office frequently, and from egg retrieval to embryo implantation, every visit was a wonderful experience. I am sad that I no longer need to go, but they did their job. I would recommend her to anyone considering IVF. You will not regret it. 10 out of 10—the best.

Do not come to this fertility center. You wait a long time for a phone or video call, which is only an interview asking whether you smoke, drink, or have a family history of genetic disease. Only a few minutes are spent on diagnosis, treatment, testing, or determining the timing of further diagnosis and treatment. Then you receive a $250 bill. They could simply take your money, yet they insist on putting you through a few minutes of awkward conversation.

For a doctor specializing in donor egg treatment, the staff seemed to know nothing about my situation. Every time I called, they treated me as though I were using my own eggs. I wish they had provided more testing and guidance before my husband underwent embryology testing. The staff on site were very kind. Dr. Gago was also very kind. Laura's Hope offered hope, but nothing more.

I want to share my experience with Gago in hopes that it helps others avoid the pain and frustration I went through. From the first appointment, I felt misled and unsupported. The nurses were unprofessional; once, a nurse told me they had "lost my blood." My husband and I struggled to get clear answers, and half the time, the person I spoke with was not even qualified to provide information. It felt as though no one was truly invested in our journey. My first intrauterine insemination (IUI) was a nightmare. The person who performed it made me cry. She began by saying of our sperm count, "I don't have good news for you." Hearing that immediately made me feel hopeless. Our count was still high enough for conception, but her poor bedside manner made the situation much harder. When we asked to speak with the doctor, whom we called "Oz," we were told we were scheduled to see her in March 2025. Even so, we never heard directly from her. We eventually spoke with the head registered nurse, but he offered us nothing beyond words. The final straw came during my last IUI cycle. I had a 7 a.m. appointment for follicle measurements, then received a call at noon saying I needed to trigger immediately and my husband had to arrive within 30 minutes to provide a sample. I had been told the trigger takes 24-48 hours to release the egg, so the rush seemed completely unnecessary. It felt like a money grab—they wanted to do back-to-back IUIs because they were closed on Sundays and would not come in for me. I later learned that back-to-back IUI is standard practice, but at Gago they charge for two procedures and perform only one. Other practices can also perform a mock IUI before the actual procedure, but Gago never offered one. I communicated with their billing department more than anyone else, and it was clear that billing was the priority. I will always thank God for blessing us with a child, but my experience at Gago was painful. If you feel heartbroken or desperate as I did, I encourage you to explore other facilities. There are smaller clinics with compassionate staff and a more personalized approach, where you see photos of happy babies on the walls because they truly care about their patients. You are not a dollar sign. You deserve to be heard. You deserve hope, compassion, and support during this challenging journey. Please do not settle for less. If you are considering Gago, look for another place where you will truly feel valued.

I would not recommend coming here if you are going through something emotional, especially something as intense as fertility treatment. The staff, particularly some of the nurses, were cold and honestly quite mean. When I was trying to resolve a billing issue, they showed absolutely no compassion even though I was clearly upset and trying to fix the problem. Even after paying more than 15 grand for the program, I received no help or understanding and was instead threatened with cancellation of my entire treatment. No empathy. No patience. Just pressure and attitude. I felt like I was treated as a number rather than a person. This should be a supportive place, but if you are looking for any emotional sensitivity, you will not find it here. The lack of professionalism and basic human decency was shocking and deeply disappointing.
