Dr. David Josephson is a pioneer and expert in robotic surgery and one of the few urologists in the country with extensive fellowship training in both open and minimally invasive techniques for complex urologic conditions. He completed a fellowship in urologic oncology and reconstructive urology at USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he also served as a clinical instructor in urology. He then completed advanced fellowship training in laparoscopic and robotic surgery at City of Hope. He was recruited to remain at City of Hope and became program director of its urologic oncology and robotic surgery fellowship. Before joining the Tower Urology Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery, he served as surgical director of City of Hope's kidney cancer program, helping develop innovative nephron-sparing surgical techniques with minimal or no ischemia.

He has performed and published several world-first series in robotic-assisted surgery, including robotic-assisted inguinal lymph node dissection, robotic-assisted cystoprostatectomy with urinary diversion, and robotic RPLND. He has completed more than 1100 robotic procedures and is a recognized leader in nerve-sparing and intrafascial pelvic preservation techniques that improve potency and continence outcomes after robotic prostatectomy. His collaborative research with Intuitive Surgery has also focused on using intraoperative fluorescent markers to reduce positive surgical margins.

His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Urology, Journal of Endourology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, and Expert Review of Anticancer Therapy. Clinically, he has been recognized as a Best Doctor in Los Angeles and included in Cambridge Who's Who. Since 2007, the Consumers' Research Council of America has twice named him one of America's Top Urologists, and he has been named one of America's leading robotic surgeons for the past three years.

Dr. Josephson is a member of the Society of Urologic Oncology, American Urological Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and American College of Surgeons. He has also served in advisory roles for ASCO/Cancer.net and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guideline committees for kidney and testicular cancer. See below for more information.

The surgery, including anesthesia, went very smoothly, with no postoperative pain or adverse reactions. Importantly, I could communicate with Dr. Josephson by text after surgery. My recovery was better than expected, and less than three weeks after surgery I was able to mountain bike and ski. I am very glad I chose Dr. Josephson and Cedars Sinai for this RP procedure.

Dr. Bui is a rock star among prostate surgeons and is at the top of his field. When I was diagnosed at age 71 with Gleason 8, my wife and I interviewed several surgeons and chose Dr. Bui, even though he was out of network, because he had performed so many of these procedures with an extremely high success rate. Dr. Bui provided an exceptional level of care and communication. He spared my nerves, prevented erectile problems, and treated my extremely enlarged prostate. Recovery was relatively easy. Eight months later, my PSA is undetectable, I have no sexual problems, and the occasional minor incontinence has now resolved. I am extremely pleased with the treatment and care Dr. Bui provided and highly recommend him.

Scheduling was difficult, and the staff were rude. The doctor left for more than 20 minutes during a painful procedure to see another patient. He returned with a fake smile and denied the reason for the long delay. He was insincere and cold. I refused to schedule any other appointments. This is a very unpleasant place.

I was treated by Dr. Bui at Tower Urology in Beverly Hills for aggressive prostate cancer. Many physicians at Cedars Sinai consider him a master of prostatectomy. He is very conservative and clearly knowledgeable, and I am extremely grateful that he saved my life. The team at Tower Urology is excellent, and I have never had any problems in the past six years.

The care of the patient is wonderful, mama hadn’t been in for almost 2 years but Dr was very pleasant and treated her nicely, the office staff however, there’s a matter of professionalism that lacks. Not all of course but unfortunately as the old saying goes “righteous suffer for the sins of the wicked” and as they all work together! Bad habits, actions and attitudes are easily followed. Coincidentally, we’re not there to make friends we’re just there so mama can be taken care of and she was.

I am writing to recommend Dr. Josephson without reservation. His exceptional expertise, diligence, and thoughtful care have had a profound impact on my health and well-being. During my annual examinations, my PSA level had been gradually rising. However, routine tests, including digital rectal examinations, initially found no abnormalities, and I was reassured that everything appeared normal. Nevertheless, I decided to seek an evaluation from Dr. Josephson based on the strong recommendation of my partner's daughter-in-law, a highly respected urologist who trained under him. Given her extensive experience and close ties to leading experts in urology, her recommendation carried significant weight. From my first visit, Dr. Josephson demonstrated extraordinary attention to detail and sound clinical judgment. After conducting his own examination, he recommended magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for further evaluation. Unfortunately, the imaging revealed an abnormality, and subsequent positron emission tomography (PET) and biopsy confirmed that I had cancer. In 2022, I underwent a robot-assisted prostatectomy under Dr. Josephson's care. After surgery, he closely monitored my recovery through regular follow-up visits and ongoing PSA testing. His meticulous approach and reassuring professionalism gave me a sense of security and confidence throughout treatment. My high regard for Dr. Josephson is not unique. Two of my business partners, both over seventy, have also received treatment from him for various urologic conditions, and they share my admiration for his expertise. My wife is also his patient and is equally pleased with the care she has received. I was referred to Dr. Josephson for surgery to remove several cysts from one of my kidneys. He and his team responded very quickly and promptly scheduled my initial consultation and surgery. Throughout the process, Dr. Josephson and his team kept me fully informed at every step and answered all my questions. The surgery and recovery went very smoothly, with almost no pain. I cannot imagine how the process could have been easier. It has been about a month since surgery, and I had my postoperative follow-up a few weeks ago. I emailed the doctor with some questions. I feel incredibly fortunate. My primary care doctor alerted me that my PSA had risen from 1 to 4 over four years. I then had an MRI and a biopsy. Two months before I turned 70, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I spoke with friends who had experienced prostate cancer and consulted several doctors. I researched the treatment options and approaches of many surgeons and radiation oncologists. Ultimately, I decided to have surgery. On the recommendation of friends and doctors, I met with Dr. Josephson. One of them was a urologist practicing at Kaiser Permanente in Venice who knew of Dr. Josephson's reputation and exceptional skill in robotic prostate surgery. Everything fell into place. Dr. Josephson readily accepted me as a patient. When we met, he explained the procedure in detail and discussed possible complications, such as lifelong urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction, while assuring me he would do everything possible to prevent them. The surgery was performed at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The medical staff there were outstanding, and the anesthesiologist was very attentive. The nurses were wonderful. The surgery lasted 5 hours. I stayed in the hospital overnight. I was able to get out of bed and walk that evening and was discharged the next day with a catheter. I stayed with family, who took excellent care of me. The pain was minimal. I took only one pain pill on my first night home and used only Tylenol afterward. I walked in the yard every day. The catheter was removed after 5 days. I used pads because of occasional leakage. A week later, I returned home and mostly resumed my daily routine, while taking great care not to lift anything heavy or strain myself. I am very grateful to my family and friends for supporting me throughout the process. That was three months ago. I no longer need pads, and the occasional minor leakage continues to improve each day. My erections and orgasms have returned. I can attend spin classes and do high-intensity interval training again. I am extremely grateful to have found Dr. Josephson and his team. His exceptional robotic surgery skills, extensive experience, and focus on preserving vital nerve connections were essential to the success of my surgery.

I have had several urinary tract infections, all resistant to antibiotics. If you have experienced this, you know how frightening and painful it is, not to mention the PTSD. Dr. Josephson is highly experienced in this area. Several times, other doctors were unable—or too impatient, and I am not joking—to find the correct diagnosis or medication, but he always helped identify the cause. I am incredibly grateful.

David Josephson is a world-class urologist and an expert in robotic prostate surgery. In 2023/1, Dr. Josephson performed my prostatectomy. I consulted two other urologists before choosing the highly regarded Dr. Josephson for robotic prostate removal. The surgery was very successful. He paid particular attention to nerve preservation and removed the surrounding fat to ensure all cancerous tissue was eliminated. I am now cancer-free and hope to remain healthy, with all functions restored to normal. My experience with Dr. Josephson was excellent. He is a kind, meticulous, and gentle world-class urologist. Dr. Josephson answered many prayers! I recently had surgery in Bakersfield with a urologist who was past his prime. I could not get help after TURP surgery. For 3 months (90 days), I was extremely uncomfortable and could not urinate without severe pain—40 times a day, wanting to cry! My Bakersfield urologist said there was nothing he could do. A friend took me to Dr. Josephson. I prayed for a miracle, and Dr. Josephson kindly delivered one. No further surgery was needed! I am 71 years old and suffered from kidney stones for years, even though I do not eat much red meat or salty processed food. I could not understand why. I finally saw Dr. Josephson in 2018. He quickly diagnosed a chemical imbalance and prescribed the appropriate natural medication, and voilà! I have not passed another stone since. Dr. J also performed the minimally invasive Rezūm water-vapor procedure for my BPH. There was almost no pain, and I healed before I had the chance to thank him. Dr. J is the best.

Dr. Josephson took excellent care of me and my prostate cancer. I was impressed by his skill during the prostate biopsy. It did not involve the typical pain or extensive bleeding. He handled the radiation preparation skillfully and carefully, and referred me to a first-rate oncology group 5 minutes from my home in Santa Monica. Throughout the 6 weeks of radiation treatment, his oncology colleagues kept me comfortable and free from anxiety. Today's results were very encouraging: follow-up PSA showed that the prostate-specific antigen marker was “undetectable,” meaning the cancer is no longer present. I am relieved and grateful. The positive reviews were confirmed. Dr. Josephson has earned my trust and loyalty.
