Tower Urology was founded about 50 years ago.


At the end of World War II, Dr. Barney Silver returned from service in the South Pacific and began his urology practice at the former Cedars of Lebanon Hospital on Sunset Boulevard. He became a legend of his era, providing exemplary urologic care with unmatched integrity and inspiring a level of patient loyalty rarely seen in medicine.

The practice continued to grow, and Dr. Dudley Danoff joined in 1971. Soon afterward, the new Cedars-Sinai Medical Center was built, and the office moved to its present location on the campus of this renowned medical institution. All our surgical and diagnostic facilities expanded within the medical center, and new, innovative technologies were added. Kidney transplantation was introduced in 1972.


The practice continued to expand rapidly with Dr. Stuart (Skip) Holden, Dr. Stephen (Buddy) Sacks, Dr. Norman Nemoy, Dr. Arnold Cinman and Dr. Sharron Mee, the first female urologist at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Gary Leach also joined and became internationally recognized as a leader in female incontinence. More recent additions include Dr. Josephson, Dr. Ng and Dr. Bui, all with expertise in robotic surgery.


Many families have remained with our urology team for more than 50 years. We often operate on grandparents, parents, children and grandchildren, spanning about four generations. Tower Urology serves more than 40,000 patients and continues to welcome about 4,000 new patients each year. Many surgical and outpatient procedures now routinely performed at Tower Urology were introduced within the past decade, including extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL), a nonsurgical treatment for kidney and ureteral stones; laser treatment of stones and bladder and prostate conditions; laparoscopy; innovative injectable and implant treatments for prostate and bladder cancer and sexual dysfunction; kidney and prostate ultrasound; tomographic imaging; complex chemical diagnostic tests; microwave therapy for BPH; and biofeedback for urinary incontinence. We continue to expand and advance the horizons of urology, adding to TU's distinguished history.

    If you are a patient at Tower Urology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, you are very fortunate because they are leaders in urology. The staff and technicians are friendly and professional, always smiling and approachable. The entire process runs smoothly and efficiently. Soon after you arrive, you are checked in, a kind nurse draws your blood, and a technician quickly comes to perform an ultrasound. Shortly afterward, my doctor, Dr. Danoff, comes in to review the results with you. He is highly skilled, thorough, quick-thinking, and personable, and his assistant Joanna is equally outstanding.     Tower Urology is a first-rate practice, from the check-in staff, financial counselors, surgical schedulers, and physician assistants to Dr. Houman. Although affiliated with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, they clearly maintain a high degree of independence. Choosing to have my penile implant surgery here was an excellent decision!

    The care of the patient is wonderful, mama hadn’t been in for almost 2 years but Dr was very pleasant and treated her nicely, the office staff however, there’s a matter of professionalism that lacks. Not all of course but unfortunately as the old saying goes “righteous suffer for the sins of the wicked” and as they all work together! Bad habits, actions and attitudes are easily followed. Coincidentally, we’re not there to make friends we’re just there so mama can be taken care of and she was.

    Dr. Leach is the best! Bar none. I drive from South Orange County to see him and would consider no other. He did surgery on me 8 years ago, and gave me back a normal life. Competent and positive. Always upbeat. My wife loves him, too.

    I have been a long-time patient of Dr. Leach, and he remains as professional and caring as ever, for which I am very grateful. I have known Este since my first appointment. Everyone at the clinic has always treated me warmly and kindly. At every visit, I can feel the relaxed, cheerful atmosphere among the staff and feel like one of them.     I was treated by Dr. Bui at Tower Urology in Beverly Hills for aggressive prostate cancer. Many physicians at Cedars Sinai consider him a master of prostatectomy. He is very conservative and clearly knowledgeable, and I am extremely grateful that he saved my life. The team at Tower Urology is excellent, and I have never had any problems in the past six years.

    The experience was incredible from beginning to end. The front desk staff was efficient and friendly, making scheduling and check-in smooth and stress-free and setting a positive tone for the visit. The clinical staff was helpful and attentive and always ready to answer my questions. Most importantly, Dr. Houman was wonderful. He listened patiently, explained everything clearly, and made sure I felt comfortable and confident about my treatment plan.     Scheduling was difficult, and the staff were rude. The doctor left for more than 20 minutes during a painful procedure to see another patient. He returned with a fake smile and denied the reason for the long delay. He was insincere and cold. I refused to schedule any other appointments. This is a very unpleasant place.

    Dr. Bui is a rock star among prostate surgeons and is at the top of his field. When I was diagnosed at age 71 with Gleason 8, my wife and I interviewed several surgeons and chose Dr. Bui, even though he was out of network, because he had performed so many of these procedures with an extremely high success rate. Dr. Bui provided an exceptional level of care and communication. He spared my nerves, prevented erectile problems, and treated my extremely enlarged prostate. Recovery was relatively easy. Eight months later, my PSA is undetectable, I have no sexual problems, and the occasional minor incontinence has now resolved. I am extremely pleased with the treatment and care Dr. Bui provided and highly recommend him.

    The surgery, including anesthesia, went very smoothly, with no postoperative pain or adverse reactions. Importantly, I could communicate with Dr. Josephson by text after surgery. My recovery was better than expected, and less than three weeks after surgery I was able to mountain bike and ski. I am very glad I chose Dr. Josephson and Cedars Sinai for this RP procedure.
