Emelia A. Bachman, MD, FACOG, is a board-certified reproductive endocrinologist. She graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and earned her medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College. She completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Maryland and the University of Pennsylvania, followed by her fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in 2013. Since 2013, Dr. Bachman has practiced as a reproductive endocrinologist and director of fertility preservation. She was named a Delaware Today Top Doctor in 2018 and 2019. She is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. She is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

We cannot say enough good things about the entire DIRM team. After 4 years of trying, nearly giving up, and starting at another fertility clinic, we transferred to DIRM. Everyone was incredible, and we are so grateful to them for helping us have our sweet boy.

There truly are not enough words to describe how amazing DIRM, Dr. Russell, and the staff are. My husband and I both have fertility issues. After 2 years of trying and multiple failures, we came to DIRM on my mother-in-law's recommendation; she was Dr. Russell's patient 25 years ago, which is how my husband became a 25-year-old IVF baby. From day one, DIRM made us feel seen and heard, and every doctor and nurse went above and beyond for us. We completed 3 IUI cycles, and the last one worked. I am now 5.5 weeks pregnant with our little miracle! We are deeply grateful for the excellent care DIRM has given us. We know graduating to an OB/GYN next month will be bittersweet. They are the best of the best!

I like the people at DIRM and the beautiful facility, but I strongly believe there are communication issues through the patient portal that need to be addressed to improve the patient experience. For example, time-sensitive medication orders were incorrect. These issues can be resolved, but they were still upsetting at the time. That said, I am forever grateful to DIRM and Dr. Bachman; she is a true angel.

DIRM was highly recommended when we first looked for a clinic. Unfortunately, it was a nightmare for us from the beginning. When we were about to start IVF, we discovered I was pregnant but suspected an ectopic pregnancy. I was told to go to the emergency room if I developed symptoms, which I did. It was a weekend, and the doctor never answered the phone as promised. At 9 a.m. the next morning, another doctor at Christiana Care rushed me into surgery. The following day, DIRM called to apologize because they had not heard the phone. From then on, we had problems including medications ordered incorrectly and incorrect medication instructions that omitted a required drug. This happened twice; once they caught it, and once I did. A few weeks before our transfer, they completely mishandled our bill and caused major stress. After we paid $1500, they called to say, "Oops, you owe another $1500." They claimed my insurer had given prior approval and then denied it. My insurer said it had never been submitted, but they would honor an approval if one existed. When I told billing, they apologized again because they had never obtained prior approval in the first place, all documented in writing. It was apology after apology. I raised these issues many times, but they were dismissed. Our transfer failed, which did not surprise me given the stress this place caused. We will continue our journey with our remaining embryos at a clinic that will not treat us like another number.

Dr. Bachman at DIRM is the best doctor I have ever seen. Her compassionate care is truly admirable. Whenever I see her, I feel as though family is caring for me.
DIRM is an excellent practice. However, any balance must be paid within 30 days or high fees apply. I did not realize this because I did not read the policy, which was my fault rather than DIRM’s, so I was understandably surprised when I received a $1500 bill for a laparoscopy that was due immediately. I wish the DIRM team had emphasized this before my procedure, but I understand that staff are busy and cannot always highlight information patients should read. Fortunately, I could pay it, but not everyone can, so please read the financial policy carefully to avoid being surprised as I was.
If fertility becomes an issue and I need a specialist, I may consider not returning to DIRM solely because of the financial aspect. I know they have partner organizations to help cover fertility treatment costs, but I have not met with them, and my previous experience makes me hesitant. The only reason I would want to return is Dr. Bachman.

Words cannot express how grateful I am to Dr. Bachman. I genuinely felt that she cared, and I no longer felt like a number. When we struggled, she was the first doctor in years to take my pain and symptoms seriously. She diagnosed my endometriosis and continued guiding us through our fertility journey. I am deeply grateful.
Update: Thanks to DIRM, we welcomed our sweet daughter in February 2025!

I love this place.
Not only is Dr. Neithardt kind and caring, but the staff are also friendly, attentive, and well organized. I like their new portal. You can view results immediately and communicate easily with the care team. Everything is perfect!
I received excellent care. Very professional!

I can’t recommend DIRM enough for fertility treatments. My journey began in January ‘25 at a different fertility clinic. The other clinic did minimal testing and basically told me that if I wanted to move forward with IVF I could. I thought that was a crazy jump with little to no explanation. I decided to switch clinics in April ‘25 and thank goodness I did. From the moment I started at DIRM, I’ve been blown away by their expertise, professionalism, bedside manner, and on and on. I’ve accidentally missed appointments and they call me and get me in the same day no problem. When things aren’t going as planned, Dr Bachman would literally hug me during appointments! They offer all the latest in fertility development like ICSI, 3rd party PGT-A testing, and all kinds of pre diagnostics testing before you have to commit to treatments such as IUI or IVF. I ultimately went the IVF route and they held my hand the entire process. I am truly grateful for the entire staff here and the time and attention they’ve given me and my husband.

Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Appointments always begin on time. The office is clean and has implemented COVID safety measures. I have always been able to reach the office, and they respond promptly.

I was very disappointed with this office. I scheduled a consultation for tubal reversal, but they simply took $300 for the first visit. I had clearly said that I was interested only in tubal reversal, and the nurse my husband and I spoke with beforehand said not to worry because the doctor would perform whichever procedure I wanted. When we met the doctor, however, he refused even to consider reversal and said he would only perform IVF. I ultimately went elsewhere for tubal reversal, and my tubes are now open and functioning well. I had the procedure for one-quarter of the price this doctor wanted to charge. Most importantly, I found a doctor who did not care only about money but respected my desire to try reversal first.

I had to undergo a very uncomfortable procedure and received difficult news about my fertility, but I felt incredibly comfortable and supported throughout. I am very grateful to the clinic staff for helping me every step of the way.

It is almost impossible to reach anyone on your care team, even if you have scheduled a Zoom call. There is no support during treatment cycles, so patients cannot schedule ultrasounds or other tests promptly. The billing team does not know how to update statements, so if you are not careful, you may pay twice for the same service. I have left several voicemails for managers and supervisors and still have not received a call back weeks later. The front desk staff do not seem interested in helping either. I do not recommend using this company to start a family. They seem interested only in taking your money.
